New Power Rangers Trailer – The Mighty Morphers return to fight Elizabeth Banks

February 18, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shiny lycra, men in monster suits, stunningly cheap looking special effects – that’s what Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is all about, right? Well, not any more, as for its movie reboot it’s been given a bigger budget and some far better production values.

Now the new trailer has arrived to give us a fresh look at the new Rangers, as well as Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, and Bryan Cranston as Zordon. You can take a look below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.’

The movie will be in cinemas in late March. [Read more…]

Bryan Cranston, Steve Carell, & Laurence Fishburne In Talks For Richard Linklater’s Next Film

August 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

TRUMBO-bryan-cranstonA full decade ago Richard Linklater revealed that he was working on an adaptation Darryl Ponicsan‘s Last Flag Flying, a sequel to The Last Detail, which was made into a film in 1973 by Hal Ashby. At the time he was trying to get Randy Quaid and Jack Nicholson to return, but that never happened.

However, now the Boyhood helmer is back on the project, which will now only be a ‘sort of’ sequel. THR reports that he’s starting to put the cast together, with Bryan Cranston, Steve Carell, and Laurence Fishburne all in talks to star. The Last Detail, ‘centers on two Navy men (Nicholson, Young) who are ordered to bring a young offender (Quaid) to prison but decide to show him one last good time along the way. Last Flag reunites the reader with the trio, now living a post-9/11 American life: The former Naval petty officers come to the aid of their former prisoner, who needs their help to bring home the body of his son who was killed in Iraq. The request sends them back retracing their journey from Norfolk, Va., to Portsmouth, N.H.’

Linklater is hoping to start shooting the film in November.

In Dubious Battle Trailer – James Franco takes on a John Steinbeck adaptation

August 30, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

in-dubious-battle-slideWhile James Franco hasn’t had any big successes as a director, you certainly can’t blame him for aiming high. He’s previously adapted the likes of William Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy for the big screen, and now he’s taking on John Steinbeck with In Dubious Battle.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in the orchards of California Valley in the dirty ’30s, Steinbeck’s tale follows two young idealists from “The Party” who are appalled by the orchards’ terrible working conditions and set out to organize the fruit pickers. Having arrived from out of town, Mac McLeod (Franco) and Jim Nolan (Nat Wolff) are met with skepticism and some outright hostility when they first suggest unionizing. Most of the pickers simply want to work and get paid, even if they are being mercilessly exploited. Mac and Jim realize that their progress depends on convincing local elder Al Anderson (Vincent D’Onofrio). He’s a hard nut, but could be won over after Mac helps his daughter-in-law, Lisa (Selena Gomez), when she goes into labour. Surrounding the two activists is a cast of eclectic characters with varying loyalties, among them the ruthless orchard owner (Robert Duvall), who is determined to crack down on any strike action.’

A trailer for the movie has now arrived, which you can watch below. The film debuts at the Venice International Film Festival, with a Toronto International Film Festival screening shortly afterwards. It’s not known when it will be released. [Read more…]

The Infiltrator Trailer – Bryan Cranston goes undercover into Pablo Escobar’s world

August 2, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

infiltrator-slideSynopsis: ‘Amidst the lavish excess of the 1980s, Robert Musella became a pivotal player for drug lords cleaning their dirty cash. He traded on mob connections, to become the confidant to scores of the international underworld and the bankers who enabled them.

‘However, Robert Musella was, in fact, the undercover persona of Special Agent Robert Mazur: a US customs official who went further than any before him. Laying his life on the line, he infiltrated the globe’s largest cartels and discovered just how deep into society their influence extended. Welcomed into an inner-circle of violence and corruption, Mazur found himself in the tight embrace of those he had promised to take down.

‘Based on the true story of a fearless undercover agent, THE INFILTRATOR is a heart-stopping account of one of history’s most elaborate stings. The operation reeled in key players in a chain stretching all the way to Escobar. Their arrests would lead to the collapse of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International and shake the black economy to its core.’

The movie will be in cinemas in September. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Trumbo (Blu-ray Review)

June 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane, Helen Mirren, Michael Stuhlbarg, Louis C.K.
Director: Jay Roach
Running Time: 124 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 20th 2016 (UK)

Ever since it happened, Hollywood has had a rather tortured relationship with the Communist Witch Hunts of the 1950s. At the time the Studios largely lined up with the government and co-operated with something which most felt was wrong, but they were too afraid of what would happen to business if they didn’t. They didn’t think they could risk being seen to be defending possible communists, even if the battle against them seemed to go against American values.

As a result, stars and directors gave names to Congress, and Hollywood drew up a list of names who were blacklisted out of the industry due to their possible communist sympathies. Ever since the tide later turned against those who’d co-operated and especially those who agreed to testify in front of The House Un-American Activities Committee, Tinsel Town has never seemed certain what to do about one of its darker chapters, and has generally given it a wide berth. Bryan Cranston & Kevin Hart In Talks For Untouchable Remake

April 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bryan-cranston2011’s Untouchable (aka Intouchables) is one of the most successful non-English language movies ever made, grossing over $400 million around the world. However it made little impact in the US, other than to get Hollywood interested in a remake.

That said, it’s taken them a long time to start properly moving forward on it, but now they’re casting the film, with Variety reporting that Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart are in talks for the lead roles. Simon Curtis (My Week With Marilyn) is attached to direct.

The original movie followed a man who becomes a quadriplegic in a terrible accident and need to find a carer. He ends up hiring a poor, African immigrant with no experience, but who looks at him with no pity. Despite difficulties, they develop a strong bond that changes both of their lives.

The remake is expected to shoot this summer, and with a script by Paul Feig and Hart onboard, it’s likely to have a more overtly comic tone that the original.
