New Death Wish Trailer – Bruce Willis stars in Eli Roth’s take on the Charles Bronson classic

January 4, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Directed by Michael Winner and starring Charles Bronson, 1974’s Death Wish is one of the classic revenge thrillers, about a man who becomes a vigilante following the death of his wife. The movie spawned four sequels over the next 20 years.

Now it’s getting a reimagining, with Hostel and Cabin Fever helmer Eli Roth directing, and Bruce Willis in the starring role.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of Chicago violence when it is rushed into his ER – until his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and college-age daughter (Camila Morrone) are viciously attacked in their suburban home. With the police overloaded with crimes, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts his family’s assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grabs the media’s attention, the city wonders if this deadly vigilante is a guardian angel or a grim reaper.’

The movie is due in US cinemas in March. No UK date is currently set. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

In Dubious Battle Trailer – James Franco takes on a John Steinbeck adaptation

August 30, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

in-dubious-battle-slideWhile James Franco hasn’t had any big successes as a director, you certainly can’t blame him for aiming high. He’s previously adapted the likes of William Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy for the big screen, and now he’s taking on John Steinbeck with In Dubious Battle.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in the orchards of California Valley in the dirty ’30s, Steinbeck’s tale follows two young idealists from “The Party” who are appalled by the orchards’ terrible working conditions and set out to organize the fruit pickers. Having arrived from out of town, Mac McLeod (Franco) and Jim Nolan (Nat Wolff) are met with skepticism and some outright hostility when they first suggest unionizing. Most of the pickers simply want to work and get paid, even if they are being mercilessly exploited. Mac and Jim realize that their progress depends on convincing local elder Al Anderson (Vincent D’Onofrio). He’s a hard nut, but could be won over after Mac helps his daughter-in-law, Lisa (Selena Gomez), when she goes into labour. Surrounding the two activists is a cast of eclectic characters with varying loyalties, among them the ruthless orchard owner (Robert Duvall), who is determined to crack down on any strike action.’

A trailer for the movie has now arrived, which you can watch below. The film debuts at the Venice International Film Festival, with a Toronto International Film Festival screening shortly afterwards. It’s not known when it will be released. [Read more…]

New Magnificent Seven Trailer – Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt & co. get out their guns

July 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

magnificent-seven-slideThere are still plenty of people wondering whether The Magnificent Seven needs a remake, but we’re getting one. It certainly helps that they’ve brought together a great cast, including Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee and Peter Sarsgaard.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Director Antoine Fuqua brings his modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven.  With the sleepy town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate towns people employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier).  As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.’

The movie is due out in September. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

James Franco Lines Up Starry Cast For Steinbeck Adaptation In Dubious Battle

February 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-franco

James Franco has directed far more movies than most people realise, and part of the reason many have gone under the radar is that that are small films with the only well-known name being behind the camera (and ended up with limited distribution).

However he’s thinking bigger with his Steinbeck adaptation In Dubious Battle, with THR reporting that Franco will star alongside Selena Gomez, Vincent D’Onofrio, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Bryan Cranston and Danny McBride.

Published in 1936, In Dubious Battle is considered the first major work of Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Steinbeck. Set in a fictionalized valley in California, the story explores themes Steinbeck continued to develop: group behavior, social injustice, man’s inhumanity to man— all themes which continue to be relevant today. A labor conflict between migrant apple pickers and the local growers’ association is the backdrop against which Jim Nolan (Franco) becomes involved in the labor movement and rapidly matures as he learns what it means to do organizational fieldwork.

It doesn’t exactly sound like the most thrilling of plots, but it was always one of Steinbeck’s skills, to make seemingly dull subject – quite often labour relations and the precarious position of manual labourers in a changing world – and make them interesting. Hopefully Franco will do the same. He’s certainly got a good cast to help him.

The movie will start shooting next month.

Jurassic World Trailer – Chris Pratt versus the dinosaurs

November 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jurassic-world-poster1-slideWatching the trailer for Jurassic World, you get the impression that Chris Pratt is the only person who’s seen the first three movies, as like most of us he quickly realises that while dinosaurs might be trouble, that goes double for creating your own genetically modified super-predator beast.

It does look pretty cool though, with the trailer – which we’d been promised on Friday but which has appeared online early – giving us a look at the rather futuristic and fully operational dino park. As you’d expect things quickly start to go wrong.

However it would appear that this time it’s not just humans vs. dinosaurs, as the genetically modified super-beast means many of the dinos are in just as much trouble as the people. Take a look at the trailer below.

Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, BD Wong and Judy Greer also star. It’s due out in the UK June 12th 2015. [Read more…]

Vincent D’Onofrio & Irrfan Khan Up For Jurassic World

March 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

vincent-donofrioDirector Colin Trevorrow is pulling together his cast for Jurassic World with Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson already onboard, and now Deadline reports they’ve been joined by Vincent D’Onofrio and Irffan Khan.

As with all the other actors, there’s no info on exactly who the new cast members will play, although D’Onofrio will apparently be the villain. Khan has been courted for some time – his name was first mentioned in November 2013 – but it’s only now that he’s officially signed up.

There’s been no official word on the plot either, although the film is believed to be set in a fully functioning dinosaur theme park on Isla Nublar, where the first Jurassic Park took place. The film is due in cinemas July 2015.

Charlie Countryman Red-Band Trailer – Things get out of hand for Shia LaBeouf

November 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Charlie Countryman certainly has a good cast, including Shia LaBeouf, Evan Rachel Wood, Mads Mikkelsen, Rupert Grint, Vincent D’Onofrio, John Hurt, Til Schweiger and The Inbetweeners’ James Buckley. Now a new red band trailer for the film has arrive, showing just how out of hands things get for LaBeouf’s character.

Here’s the brief synopsis for the film, which was once titled The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman: ‘Traveling abroad, Charlie Countryman falls for Gabi, a Romanian beauty whose unreachable heart has its origins in Nigel, her violent, charismatic ex. As the darkness of Gabi’s past increasingly envelops him, Charlie resolves to win her heart, or die trying.’

Fredrik Bond maked his feature directorial debut with the movie, which is out in the US in November. [Read more…]

Fire With Fire (Blu-ray)

September 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Josh Duhamel, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Vincent D'Onofrio
Director: David Barett
Running Time: 97 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: September 16th 2013

It’s clear from the very first scene that there are going to be problems with Fire With Fire. Josh Duhamel’s Jeremy and his band of firefighters bask in the satisfaction of having fought a blaze and get ready to leave, with everyone around congratulating them on a job well done. However what no one seems to have noticed is that behind them the fire hasn’t actually been put out, as flames are still visible. With this sort of lack of care is apparent in the first 30 seconds, it’s little surprise the rest of the movie is far from a masterpiece. [Read more…]

Billy Bob Thornton Joins Downey Jr & Duvall In The Judge

March 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

billy-bob-thorntonThe cast of The Judge is fast coming together. For a long time it was just Robert Downey Jr. attached, while they tried to get Jack Nicholson to star alongside him. However with Jack passing on the film, in the last few days they’ve added Robert Duvall, Vincent D’Onofrio and now Variety reports that Billy Bob Thornton is in talks to sign on for the film.

The Judge is about a lawyer (Downey Jr.) who reluctantly returns to his hometown after being away for decades, in order to attend his mother’s funeral. When he arrives, he discovers that his estranged and elderly judge father (Duvall) is suspected of killing her. He has to work to prove his dad’s innocence, which allows the two of them to bond in a way they never have before.

If he does sign on, Thornton will play the prosecutor brought in to try Duvall’s character. D’Onofrio is set for the role of Downey Jr’s older brother, who like his father has also been estranged from his sibling.
