Omar Sy & More Join Tom Hanks In Dan Brown’s Inferno As The Main Cast Is Revealed

February 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

omar-syHaving skipped The Lost Symbol, Ron Howard and Tom Hanks are returning to Robert Langdon with Inferno, following The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. It’s been revealed that it will start shooting in April, and with that the main cast has been revealed in an official press release.

Here’s what they had to say:  ‘Director/producer Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer have cast an energetic company of some of the world’s most talented and interesting rising international stars to join Tom Hanks in Inferno, the new film in Columbia Pictures’ Robert Langdon series, which has taken in more than $1.2 billion worldwide to date.

‘The Imagine Entertainment production, which has a screenplay by David Koepp based on the book by Dan Brown, is slated for release on October 14, 2016 and will begin principal photography at the end of April. The project’s executive producers are Dan Brown, Anna Culp, Bill Connor, and David Householter.

‘Inferno continues the Harvard symbologist’s adventures on screen: when Robert Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks, a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories and prevent a madman from releasing a global plague connected to Dante’s “Inferno.”

‘Felicity Jones, an Oscar® nominee this year for her performance in The Theory of Everything, will star opposite Hanks as Dr. Sienna Brooks. Irrfan Khan, one of India’s biggest stars, best known for his roles in Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi, and The Lunchbox, takes the role of Harry Sims, also known as The Provost. French actor Omar Sy, best known for his work in the French mega-hit The Intouchables, as well as X-Men: Days of Future Past, the upcoming Jurassic World, and John Wells’ upcoming untitled project, will play Christoph Bruder. Sidse Babett Knudsen, star of the Danish television series “Borgen,” will portray Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey, the head of the World Health Organization. The filmmakers are also in talks with several other internationally recognized actors for major roles.

‘Commenting on the announcement, Howard said, “For this film, I wanted Tom Hanks to be surrounded by an international cast of actors whose energy will underscore Robert Langdon’s life-or-death peril, the high-stakes action he takes, and the global threat that he’s trying to prevent. Felicity, Irrfan, Omar, and Sidse have all broken through with recognition here in America as well as their home countries – they are phenomenal talents and we can’t wait to get started.”

‘“We’re thrilled to be making a third Robert Langdon film with Ron, Tom and Brian,” said Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group. “Inferno will deliver all of the excitement, intrigue and international adventure that audiences expect from a film based on Dan Brown’s huge selling Langdon book series. We can’t wait to see this character back on the big screen.”’

Mood Indigo (Blu-ray Review)

December 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Romain Duris, Audrey Tautou, Omar Sy, Gad Elmaleh
Director: Michel Gondry
Running Time: 94 mins/131 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: December 1st 2014 (UK)

As a film reviewer it feels almost compulsory to believe that a director’s original cut is the one we ought to watch, but in some cases that’s not true.

Mood Indigo was released in France back in early 2013 with a very lengthy running time of 131 minutes. However despite having Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine, Be Kind Rewind) at the helm and talents such as Romain Duris, Audrey Tautou and Omar Sy starring, it took over a year for it to arrive in the US and UK, and when it did, it was 40 minutes shorter.

At the time, many harrumphed about the idea of philistine producers neutering Gondry’s original intentions, but the home entertainment release gives us a chance to see both versions side by side and it turns out that what we got was better than original edition the French had. [Read more…]

Jurassic World Trailer – Chris Pratt versus the dinosaurs

November 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jurassic-world-poster1-slideWatching the trailer for Jurassic World, you get the impression that Chris Pratt is the only person who’s seen the first three movies, as like most of us he quickly realises that while dinosaurs might be trouble, that goes double for creating your own genetically modified super-predator beast.

It does look pretty cool though, with the trailer – which we’d been promised on Friday but which has appeared online early – giving us a look at the rather futuristic and fully operational dino park. As you’d expect things quickly start to go wrong.

However it would appear that this time it’s not just humans vs. dinosaurs, as the genetically modified super-beast means many of the dinos are in just as much trouble as the people. Take a look at the trailer below.

Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, BD Wong and Judy Greer also star. It’s due out in the UK June 12th 2015. [Read more…]

With X-Men: Days Of Future Past mixing up mutants from the original trilogy with their First Class counterparts, there’s a lot of interest in the film. Now some character portraits have emerged (apparently first on the X-Men Tumblr, although they now seem to have been removed, and then on ComingSoon).

They show us Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman and Daniel Cudmore back in the X-Men fold, along with out first look at Omar Sy as Bishop, and First Class’ Nicholas Hoult and Lucas Till.

The film’s Comic-Con panel takes place on Saturday, so hopefully there’ll be more news from that. Click on the pics below for larger versions. It’s out in cinemas May 2014.

Jason Clarke & Omar Sy Up For Stephen Gaghan’s Candy Store

April 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jason-ClarkeStephen Gaghan hasn’t directed a movie since Syriana in 2005, but now he’s returning with Candy Store. He’s started filling out the cast, as Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and Omar Sy (The Intouchables) have signed on to star, according to THR.

Omar Sy Joins X-Men: Days Of Future Past

March 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

omar-syWith the X-Men: Days Of Future Past shoot approaching fast, director Bryan Singer is busy putting the final touches to the cast. In the last few weeks the news has been mainly about the slew of old X-Men who will be returning to the franchise, such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, and Shawn Ashmore (with Halle Berry likely if a few contract details can be sorted).

Then a few days ago it was revealed Peter Dinklage had joined the movie and now Director Bryan Singer has revealed yet another new cast member, with The Intouchables (Untouchable) star Omar Sy signing on for an unspecified role.

Singer tweeted, ‘Thrilled to welcome the brilliant #OmarSy from the amazing film #TheIntouchables to the cast of #Xmen#DaysofFuturePast!— Bryan Singer’

As with Dinklage’s character, the filmmaker didn’t reveal who Omar Sy will play. However there’s been some speculation that he will portray Bishop, a mutant who has the ability to absorb all forms of radiation and energy and release it through his body. He’s featured in the original comic book arc, but there’s been no confirmation he’ll be in the film.

First Class actors James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult also return, with the shoot expected to begin in April.

Bradley Cooper & Omar Sy Join Derek Cianfrance’s Chef

January 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bradley-cooper-hangoverDerek Cianfrance has just made two films back-to-back with Ryan Gosling – Blue Valentine and Place Beyond The Pines – and now he wants to do the same with Bradley Cooper, who also stars in Pines and has now signed on for Cianfrance’s Chef. According to Variety, Untouchable star Omar sy will also be in the movie.

The comedy is about a disgraced chef (Bradley Cooper) who loses his prestigious restaurant in Paris. He decides to bring his old crew back together in an attempt to create the world’s greatest restaurant in London. It’s not known exactly who Omar Sy will play, although this will be the French actor’s first English-language film.

Cooper himself told French radio station RTL, “We’ve been talking about this project. I want to do it. It’s a beautiful story. And I love cooking. … [But] I’m going to make another film in March and after that I think I’m going to take a break and stay in Paris for Roland Garros (the tennis tournament set in late May).”

It sounds therefore that there’s no firm idea on when the movie might actually go in front of the cameras. Derek Cianfrance is directing from a screenplay by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises).

Untouchable (Cinema)

September 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Francois Cluzet, Omar Sy, Anne Le Ny, Audrey Fleurot, Clotilde Mollet
Director: Olivier Nakache, Eric Toledano
Running Time: 112 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: September 21st 2012

Untouchable hits the UK after having extraordinary success across the rest of the globe. It’s now by far the highest-grossing French-language movie ever, taking an extraordinary $365 million around the world (although only $8 million of that is from the US, which still remains particularly resistant to foreign-language fare). It’s particularly impressive as not only does the world generally ignore the output of the French film industry, but it’s about a subject that many would usually see as something to shy away from – as it’s about a man who’s completely paralysed below the neck.
