New The Greatest Showman Trailer – Hugh Jackman & Zac Efron enter a musical big top

November 13, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despite the success of La La Land, big, Hollywood original musicals are still a rare thing. However, Hugh Jackman has one up his sleeve with The Greatest Showman, which even has songs from the team that created the La La Land tunes. A new trailer has arrived which suggests this could be a really good and pretty spectacular movie – although it does seem Hugh Jackman has now started aging backwards.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“The Greatest Showman” is a bold and original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and the sense of wonder we feel when dreams come to life. Inspired by the ambition and imagination of P.T. Barnum, “The Greatest Showman” tells the story of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a mesmerizing spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. “The Greatest Showman” is directed by exciting new filmmaker, Michael Gracey, with songs by Academy Award winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“La La Land”) and starring Academy Award nominee Hugh Jackman. Jackman is joined by Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams, Zendaya, Zac Efron and Rebecca Ferguson.’

The film will arrive in UK cinemas in on December 26th. Take a look at the new trailer below.  [Read more…]

Hugh Jackman Stands Up To Support Same-Sex Marriage In Australia

September 30, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Things are getting heated in Australia as voting happens in the country’s same-sex marriage referendum. With the postal vote taking place over several weeks, it’s allowing passions to get heated on both sides, with the ‘no’ camp getting hysterical enough that they tried to stop Macklemore from singing ‘Same Love’ at a sporting event, as if that was going to be the deciding factor.

Aussie stars who’s stood up to speak out have nearly all been in the ‘yes’ camp, and perhaps not too surprisingly that now includes Hugh Jackman, who’s long been a supporter of gay rights. He took to Twitter to says that he and his wife Deborah-Lee Furness, ‘believe all Australians deserve to be treated equally under the law. That’s why Deb & I are voting YES #equality and #love!’

Jackman joins the likes of Kylie and Danni Minogue, and Chris and Liam Hemsworth, who’ve voiced their support for same sex marriage in Australia. Polls suggest a majority of Aussie support a change in the law, but even so it’s believed the vote may be close, partly as it’s believed those opposing same sex marriage are more likely to vote than those who either support or are ambivalent about it. The final result will be announced in November. [Read more…]

Logan (DVD Review) – Wolverine & Professor X sure say f**k more than they used to!

July 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant
Director: James Mangold
Running Time: 137 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 10th 2017 (UK)

There have been increasing grumblings in some circles that too many superhero movies feel like they’ve come off a production line and are all pretty much the same as one another. Included in that grumbling has been Fox’s X-Men movies, but in the last couple of years they’ve also produced two standalone movies set in that universe – Deadpool and now Logan – that have really felt different and have shown that there are all sorts of possibilities in the world of comic books.

Although Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has had two previous non X-Men movies, this is a very different beast to the earlier film, having more in common with a western or a road movie than a traditional superhero film. [Read more…]

The Greatest Showman Trailer – Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams & Zac Efron enter a musical big top

Despite the success of La La Land, big, Hollywood original musicals are still a rare thing. However, Hugh Jackman has one up his sleeve with The Greatest Showman, which even has songs from the team that created the tunes on La La Land. The first trailer suggest that while it may not exactly be historically accurate, it could be a lot of fun.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“The Greatest Showman” is a bold and original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and the sense of wonder we feel when dreams come to life. Logan Super Bowl Spot – Hugh Jackman returns for one last mutant adventure

February 6, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been some pretty good buzz about Logan, and from what we’ve seen it’s like nothing we’ve seen from the X-Men universe before, which is underlined by this Super Bowl spot. It certainly shows that this is a far cry from Days Of Future Past, Apocalypse, or even The Wolverine. But it does look like it might be good.

Here’s the short synopsis: ‘In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.’

What that doesn’t quite get across is the rather bleak, western feel. The film is out March 1st. You can watch the Super Bowl spot and a new clip below. [Read more…]

New Logan Trailer – Wolverine and Professor X get caught up in a near future Western

January 19, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been some pretty good buzz about Logan, with some suggesting it’s nothing like we’ve seen – especially from the X-Men universe – and could be something genuinely special. The new trailer certainly lays it out there that this is a far cry from Days Of Future Past, Apocalypse, or even The Wolverine.

What that doesn’t quite get across is the rather bleak, western feel, an odd multi-generational dysfunctional family dynamic, and the fact that Patrick Stewart’s Professor X says ‘Fuck’ (we’d expect that from James Stewart’s young Xavier, but not Patrick’s!). The film’s out March 1st.

Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Logan Trailer – The future’s not bright for Wolverine and Professor X

October 20, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

logan-trailer-slideIt certainly doesn’t look like there’s a bright, shiny future for mutants if this first trailer for Logan is anything to go by. Indeed, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) himself is scarred, increasingly grizzled and dejected, while Patrick Stewart’s Professor X seems to be on his last legs. But perhaps there’s one last shot at redemption.

The girl in the trailer is believed to be a semi-clone of Wolverine, who he must protect. As you’ll see from the trailer, it’s got a rather dark, weary, western tone (helped by the choice of Johnny Cash on the soundtrack), with suggestions this could be R-rated.

Jackman has said this will be his last movie playing the characters, having outlasted any other actor playing a superhero (to put it in context, he first played Wolverine before Sam Raimi’s Spider-man, which is now the Spideys ago), and there is a note of finality in this trailer. What’s perhaps just as interesting is how this will fit into the larger X-Men universe, or whether once more it will will muddy the continuity waters. The film is due out next March. [Read more…]

The Third Wolverine Will Be Called Logan, As It Gets A Poster

October 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

logan-posterEver since it was first announced, the next Wolverine movie has lacked a title. That omission began to seem increasingly glaring at its March 2017 release date got closer and closer.

However, now the first poster has arrived, which lets us know the film will be called Logan.

There’s still no official synopsis, but the poster gives us a hint, with the adamantium clawed one holding a child’s hand. It is his child? Is it a random youngster he has to protect? Or is it, as some have suggested, the female Wolverine clone that’s been rumoured to feature in the movie? It’s been suggested we’ll get a teaser trailer soon, which will hopefully let us know a little more.

Until then, enjoy the poster.

Rebecca Ferguson Up For Hugh Jackman’s Musical The Greatest Showman

September 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rebecca-fergusonWhen it was announced that Michelle Williams was joining the PT Barnum musical biopic The Greatest Showman, many assumed she would be playing Swedish opera star Jenny Lind. However, that role is actually going to Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation’s Rebecca Ferguson, according the Variety.

As well as Ferguson and Williams, the cast also include Zendaya, Zac Efron and Hugh Jackman, as Barnum. The film will focus life of Barnum, who was known for his elaborate hoaxes before creating the three-ring circus. He also spent a lot of time pining for Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind, and it’s believed this relationship will be the central spine of the movie.

Michael Gracey is attached to direct. The project has been in the works for over five years, but apparently Fox has now made it a priority, partly because they know what a passion project it is for Jackman. It should start filming this autumn.

Eddie The Eagle (Blu-ray Review)

August 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Taron Egerton, Hugh Jackman, Tim McInnerny, Keith Allen, Jo Hartley
Director: Dexter Fletcher
Running Time: 106 mins
Certificate: PG
Release Date: August 8th 2016 (UK)

Anyone British who was around in the 80s will probably remember Michael ‘Eddie’ Edwards, the unlikely figure who became an international sensation at the 1988 Winter Olympics, not due to the fact he was so good, but because he defied what you would normally think an Olympian would be when he took to the semi-suicidal slopes of the ski jump. Eddie The Eagle gives us a fictionalised take on that story.

Eddie (Taron Egerton) has long wanted to be an Olympian, but coming from a humble background he doesn’t have some of the advantages of others, and nor does the British Olympic Committee thinks he’s Olympic material – or at least that he’s not posh enough. His father (Keith Allen) thinks he should just give up and become a plasterer like him, but then Eddie has an idea – to become a ski jumper. Britain hasn’t sent a ski jumper to the Olympics since the 1920s, and under the rules in the 1980s, that means he should get an automatic place if he signs up to compete. [Read more…]
