New Venom Trailer – Take a proper look at Tom Hardy’s Spidey symbiote

August 6, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Sony released a first teaser for their Venom movie in February, they probably weren’t expecting the, erm, venomous backlash they received. While their were complaints about all sorts of things, the ultimately boiled down to the fact they’d released a trailer that failed to actually show Venom.

They started to remedy that with a new trailer and poster in April, and now we get our best taste yet, which suggests this may be the twisted tale many had hoped, rather than the more sanitised Venom of Spider-man 3.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.’ The movie also stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze and Reid Scott, with Ruben Fleischer directing.

The film will be in cinemas in October. [Read more…]

Venom Teaser Trailer – Tom Hardy is having symbiote troubles in the Spider-man spin-off

February 8, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are still plenty of people wondering quite how they’re going to make a standalone Venom movie work, especially as while the character may be very popular in the Spider-man universe, he’s normally thought of as a villain. While the first teaser for the movie doesn’t fully explain how Tom Hardy and the alien symbiote will work together, it hints at a Dr. Jeykll and Mr. Hyde vibe.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.’

That doesn’t exactly tell us a lot, so it’s worth taking a look at the teaser and the poster underneath it. The film itself, which also stars Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed, is due in cinemas in October. [Read more…]

New The Greatest Showman Trailer – Hugh Jackman & Zac Efron enter a musical big top

November 13, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despite the success of La La Land, big, Hollywood original musicals are still a rare thing. However, Hugh Jackman has one up his sleeve with The Greatest Showman, which even has songs from the team that created the La La Land tunes. A new trailer has arrived which suggests this could be a really good and pretty spectacular movie – although it does seem Hugh Jackman has now started aging backwards.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“The Greatest Showman” is a bold and original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and the sense of wonder we feel when dreams come to life. Inspired by the ambition and imagination of P.T. Barnum, “The Greatest Showman” tells the story of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a mesmerizing spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. “The Greatest Showman” is directed by exciting new filmmaker, Michael Gracey, with songs by Academy Award winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“La La Land”) and starring Academy Award nominee Hugh Jackman. Jackman is joined by Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams, Zendaya, Zac Efron and Rebecca Ferguson.’

The film will arrive in UK cinemas in on December 26th. Take a look at the new trailer below.  [Read more…]

New Wonderstruck Trailer – Out director Todd Haynes takes us into a Bowie-backed world

September 20, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of years after gay director Todd Haynes wowed Cannes with the rapturously received Carol, he returned to the festival this year with Wonderstruck. The movie also got good notices for it’s take on two children, born 50 years apart.

Apparently the music of David Bowie infuses the whole thing, as evidenced by the trailer below. Oakes Fegley, Millicent Simmonds, Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams star.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Dased on Brian Selznick’s critically acclaimed novel Ben and Rose are children from two different eras who secretly wish their lives were different. Ben longs for the father he has never known, while Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. When Ben discovers a puzzling clue in his home and Rose reads an enticing headline in the newspaper, both children set out on quests to find what they are missing that unfold with mesmerizing symmetry.’

The film will be released in the US on October 20th. No UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

When most people get a little older they start to slow down and contemplate retirement. However, others start working even harder. One of those people is 79-year-old Ridley Scott. Not content with having directed a bid budget sci-fi movie this year (Alien: Covenant) has decided to squeeze in a drama as well – All The Money In The World.

When Getty Sr. refuses, Gail attempts to sway him as her son’s captors become increasingly volatile and brutal. With her son’s life in the balance, Gail and Getty’s advisor (Mark Wahlberg) become unlikely allies in the race against time that ultimately reveals the true and lasting value of love over money.’

The Greatest Showman Trailer – Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams & Zac Efron enter a musical big top

Hugh Jackman & Zac Efron Get Musical In First Pics From The Greatest Showman

May 17, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Big budget original musicals are a rare thing in Hollywood (yes, we had La La Land, but that cost a relatively small – by Hollywood standards – $30 million), which makes The Greatest Showman something a little bit special. The first pictures from the movie, which stars High Jackman, Zac Efron, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya and Michelle Williams, have now arrived, and you can take a look at them below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“The Greatest Showman” is a bold and original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and the sense of wonder we feel when dreams come to life. Jackman is joined by Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams, Zendaya, Zac Efron and Rebecca Ferguson.’

The fact Pasek and Paul are on board is certainly a good thing, as their tunes were so vita to the success of La La Land. Take a loot at the first pics of The Greatest Showman below. The movie will be in UK cinemas January 2018. [Read more…]

Manchester By The Sea (Blu-ray Review) – Inside broken lives doing their best in the Oscar-winning film

May 14, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Casey Affleck, Kyle Chandler, Lucas Hedges, Michelle Williams, Tate Donovan
Director: Kenneth Lonergan
Running Time: 137 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 15th 2017 (UK)

Despite allegations of past sexual assault swirling around Casey Affleck, he picked up the Best Actor Oscar for Manchester By The Sea, with Kenneth Lonergan also winning an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Judging purely from what’s on the screen, you can see why they won, as Affleck puts in an extremely good performance, working from a nicely nuanced script which prizes emotion but tries to avoid cliché.

Affleck is Lee Chandler, who’s working as a janitor in Boston. He drinks too much, barely socialises and gets in trouble for being rude to tenants. He gets a call to say that his brother has died and so he heads to his hometown of Manchester, Massachusetts. Lee also knows he’ll have to help look after his teenage nephew, Patrick (Lucas Hedges) but isn’t prepared for that fact his brother has named him as Patrick’s guardian, something he doesn’t feel vaguely able to handle.
