New Venom Trailer – Take a proper look at Tom Hardy’s Spidey symbiote

August 6, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Sony released a first teaser for their Venom movie in February, they probably weren’t expecting the, erm, venomous backlash they received. While their were complaints about all sorts of things, the ultimately boiled down to the fact they’d released a trailer that failed to actually show Venom.

They started to remedy that with a new trailer and poster in April, and now we get our best taste yet, which suggests this may be the twisted tale many had hoped, rather than the more sanitised Venom of Spider-man 3.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.’ The movie also stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze and Reid Scott, with Ruben Fleischer directing.

The film will be in cinemas in October. [Read more…]

First Look At Tom Hardy As Al Capone In Chasing Fonzo

March 29, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Back in October 2016 it was revealed that Tom Hardy had signed on to play Al Capone in the movie Chasing Fonzo. The movie starts shooting in New Orleans next week and to mark the occasion Hardy has posted the first image of him on the set on Instagram.

The movie ‘will follow Capone at age 47, after he spent several years in prison and has returned to rule Chicago as a ruthless businessman following his life as a mob boss. It will also follow his struggle with dementia, which eventually killed him following his near decade of imprisonment.’

Alongside Hardy, Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, and Kathrine Narducci are also due to star. Josh Trank (Fantastic Four, Chronicle) will direct from his own screenplay.

Venom Teaser Trailer – Tom Hardy is having symbiote troubles in the Spider-man spin-off

February 8, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are still plenty of people wondering quite how they’re going to make a standalone Venom movie work, especially as while the character may be very popular in the Spider-man universe, he’s normally thought of as a villain. While the first teaser for the movie doesn’t fully explain how Tom Hardy and the alien symbiote will work together, it hints at a Dr. Jeykll and Mr. Hyde vibe.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.’

That doesn’t exactly tell us a lot, so it’s worth taking a look at the teaser and the poster underneath it. The film itself, which also stars Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed, is due in cinemas in October. [Read more…]

Dunkirk (Blu-ray Review) – Christopher Nolan goes to war in impressive fashion

December 18, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Fionn Whitehead, Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy
Director: Christopher Nolan
Running Time: 106 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: December 18th 2017 (UK)

Christopher Nolan is one of the few directors who can pretty much make any movie he wants. Thanks to the success of unconventional big budget movies such as Interstellar and Inception – and of course The Dark Knight trilogy – Warner Bros. trusts him to deliver. On the surface Dunkirk seems a more straightforward proposition as it’s a World War II movie, but as this is Nolan, he’s not going to make a war film quite like anyone else.

For a start there’s remarkably little dialogue and while there are main characters, we learn comparatively little about them. Likewise, while it’s about an incredibly famous event, it’s not interested in being an exposition-heavy historical overview, complete with officers pushing little boats around a war-room map to explain to us what’s going on. Instead it’s a film that wants to create a sense of realism about the events it’s talking about. It also has an almost puzzle-box nature – three intercut stories each taking place at a slightly different time – helping to create a sense of the chaos and uncertainty for those caught up in the events of late Spring 1940. Riz Ahmed In Talks To Star Opposite Tom Hardy In Venom

August 10, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sony is planning to expand its Spider-man universe with a Venom movie. They’ve made a good start by picking Tom Hardy for the central role, and now they’ve cast another excellent British actor in the movie.

Deadline reports that Riz Ahmed is in early talks to join the film. It’s not known exactly who he will play, but it is apparently a ‘popular Marvel Comics character’.

Venom is an alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive. He was introduced to movie audiences in Spider-man 3, but it left fans rather disappointed in how it was used and certainly didn’t leave viewers wanting more, despite how popular the character is in the Marvel comics. Not much has been revealed about the new film’s take on Venom, although it’s believed Hardy will play Eddie Brock, who becomes enmeshed with the symbiote. In the comics he’s generally been a supervillain, but it’s likely he’ll become more antihero for the new movie.

Rube Fleischer is set to direct the movie, which is currently due for release October 2018.

Tom Hardy Set To Star In Bosnian Conflict Drama My War Gone By, I Miss It So

July 26, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hardy may be going to war. Having just starred in Dunkirk, he’s now planning to star in and produce a movie version of the war memoir, My War Gone By, I Miss It So, but journalist and war correspondent, Anthony Loyd. Gavin O’Connor (Warrior, The Accountant) is set to direct, according to Variety.

Llloyd’s book is a, ‘personal account of the Bosnian War, and alternates between his experiences in Bosnia and personal reflections of his time in the British army, his parents’ divorce, his estrangement from his father, and his heroin addiction.’

Hardy comments, “‘My War Gone By’ is a brutal yet sensitive story which addresses both the nature of addiction and the experience of war. I was struck by Anthony’s work and words, experiences, and for me his is an important voice and an important book.”

O’Connor adds, “Anthony’s memoir was love at first page – a portrait of war like I’d never read before, An up-close-and-personal account of a heroin junkie reporting from the front lines of Bosnia – the bloodiest conflict Europe has witnessed since the Second World War – who uses the high of war to kick his drug habit. It’s a book written with both fists. It’s Anthony’s ‘Apocalypse Now.’ I feel privileged and honored for the opportunity to bring the book to the movies.”

Dunkirk (Cinema Review) – One of the best war movies ever made?

July 21, 2017 By George Elcombe Leave a Comment

Starring: Fionn Whitehead, Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy
Director: Christopher Nolan
Running Time: 106 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: July 21st 2017

Christopher Nolan is a franchise. Much like the Spielberg summer releases of yesteryear or any film by Stanley Kubrick, there is a devoted audience who can’t wait to see the director’s next film. More often than not, Nolan’s movies are original (to a degree), stand alone and the studio has faith in the director’s abilities.

Nolan’s relationship with Warner Brothers seems to be going from strength to strength and I’ve read that he has a tendency to deliver his movies under budget and before the scheduled deadline.

I also like to believe that the pitch meetings go something like:
Nolan: “I have this idea for my next film.”
Warner’s: “Great, sounds excellent! Here, have some money and let us know once it’s done!” [Read more…]

New Dunkirk Trailer – Christopher Nolan goes to war with Tom Hardy & Harry Styles

July 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As always it’s been a summer filled with superheroes and sci-fi, but Christopher Nolan is offering up something a little different in a couple of weeks – Dunkirk. It’s his take on one of the most famous moments in World War II, and to keep us interested a new, minute long trailer has been released.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘”Dunkirk” features a prestigious cast, including Tom Hardy (“The Revenant,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Inception”), Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies,” “Wolf Hall”), Kenneth Branagh (“My Week with Marilyn,” “Hamlet,” “Henry V”) and Cillian Murphy (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy), as well as newcomer Fionn Whitehead. The ensemble cast also includes Harry Styles (One Direction) making his feature film debut.

‘Christopher Nolan (“Interstellar,” “Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy) is directing “Dunkirk” from his own original screenplay, utilizing a mixture of IMAX® and 65mm film to bring the story to the screen.

“Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.’

The movie opens on July 21st. Watch the new trailer below, along with a roundtable interview about the movie. [Read more…]

Tom Hardy On For Spider-Man Spin-off Venom, With Ruben Fleischer Set To Direct

May 20, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hardy sure seems to like his comic book movies. After playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, he very nearly played Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad, until overruns on shooting The Revenant forced him to back out. Now he’s planning a return to the comic book world, as Variety reports that he’s set to star in Sony’s planned Spider-man spin-off, Venom.

The ‘alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive’ was introduced to movie audiences in Spider-man 3, but it left fans rather disappointed in how it was used and certainly didn’t leave viewers wanting more, despite how popular the character is in the Marvel comics. Not much has been revealed about the new film’s take on Venom. In the comics he’s generally been a supervillain, but it’s likely he’ll become more antihero for the movie.

Scott Rosenberg (“Jumanji”) and Jeff Pinkner (“The Dark Tower”) will write the script, with Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer recently coming on board to direct. The whole thing will have to come together quickly, as Sony wants to release the movie during October 2018.
