For the last few months, plans to remake The Crow have been thrown into the air after The Weinstein Company claimed they owned certain rights to the characters, meaning Relativity Media’s plan to reboot the franchise have been in jeopardy. However a couple of days ago it was announced the two sides had agreed terms that would end the legal action.
It seems that they’ve been plotting how they’d move forward while the legal wheels have been turning, as they’ve already closed a deal with F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) to direct the reinvention of The Crow, with writer Jesse Wigutow signed on to pen the script.
Gutiérrez’s directorial debut, the Spanish-language apocalyptic thriller Before the Fall (Tres Dias), became an international and award-winning sensation after premiering at the Berlinale Film Festival in 2008. He’s also currently developing Dimension Films’ sci-fi thriller The Greys.
The Crow adaptation is planned as a gritty reboot of the iconic character of Eric Draven, who returns from the grave as The Crow on a mission to avenge his wife’s murder, so that his soul can finally rest.
Previously the likes of Bradley Cooper and Mark Wahlberg have been attached to star in the film, but at the moment there’s no cast announced and it’s uncertain when it might shoot. (Source: Variety)
