Jack Huston In Talks To Be The New Crow

February 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jack-hustonHave you been attached to play The Crow in the planned reboot of the franchise? Don’t worry, it’ll be your turn soon as they’re going to run out of actors if it keeps going like this.

The likes of Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, Luke Evans, James McAvoy and Tom Hiddleston and Channing Tatum are just a few of the actors who’ve been attached or rumoured for the movie in the past few years, and now we’ve got another to add to the list, as Deadline reports that Jack Huston is in talks for the film.

It appears they’re betting on Huston becoming a much bigger name in the next year or so, on the assumption that his major roles in Ben-Hur, The Longest Ride and Pride And Prejudice And Zombies turn him into a bona fide star.

There’s also been a bit of a revolving door of directors, but Corin Hardy is currently is the man behind the camera. Brandon Lee starred in director Alex Proyas’ 1994 original film The Crow, based on James O’Barr’s comic book series.

Crow Creator James O’Barr Helping With Film Remake

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Crow-1994A remake of The Crow has been in development for several years, but it’s faced a couple of problems. The first (and perhaps most significant) is a revolving door of actors and director coming and going from the film. The other is rumblings from fans that they don’t want a do-over, feeling it couldn’t beat the original comics of the 1994 film.

However Relativity Media is hoping to assuage their fear as they’ve hired James O’Barr, the creator of The Crow as “creative consultant” on the new movie, according to Variety. O’Barr, along with director F. Javier Gutierrez, will be at Comic Con in a couple of weeks time to give fans a hint at what they’re planning.

The Crow creator says, “It is important for ‘Crow’ fans to understand that Relativity, Javier, Luke and the entire team are working on a new adaptation of the book itself. I believe that this movie will stand alongside Brandon and his film as a valid work of art, and I look forward to collaborating on the project.”

Luke Evans is set to set (at least at the moment, with the history of this project, don’t be shocked if that changes) as Eric Draven, who returns from the grave as The Crow on a mission to avenge his wife’s murder, so that his soul can finally rest.

Luke Evans Takes On The Crow Remake

When the idea of remaking The Crow was first mooted, US actors such as Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, and Channing Tatum were attached, but in the last few months it’s seemed director F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before The Fall) has been keen to find a Brit to take on the role of Eric Draven.

In the last few month, James McAvoy and Tom Hiddleston have been rumoured for the role, but now Deadline reports that Luke Evans is in talks for the part. He’ll play rock star Eric Draven, who comes back to life to seek vengeance against those who murdered him.

Brandon Lee starred in director Alex Proyas’ 1994 original film The Crow, based on James O’Barr’s comic book series. It isn’t known when production will begin, but it may not be until early next year.

Tom Hiddleston In Talks For The Crow Remake Lead

April 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hiddleston at The Avengers LA PremiereThe idea of remaking The Crow has had a trouble history, with the likes of Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg, James McAvoy and Channing Tatum attached to star at various time, and various directors also coming and going, before F. Javier Gutierrez signed up to make the movie.

Now a new star is being lined up for the lead role, with TheWrap reporting that Tom Hiddleston is in early talks to play Eric Draven. The Crow adaptation is planned as a gritty reboot of the iconic comic book character, who returns from the grave as The Crow on a mission to avenge his wife’s murder, so that his soul can finally rest.

It seems Hiddleston hasn’t formally agreed to anything yet, so it may not come together, but he might be a good choice for the role, as long as he can cut the clipped English accent and deliver something a little grittier and more decidedly American.

Hiddleston will be seen in later this year in Thor: The Dark World, Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive, and The Muppets… Again!

Will James McAvoy Be The New Crow?

February 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-mcavoy-wantedA remake of The Crow has been in the works for years, with the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper and Channing Tatum all talked about to star at various points. However we haven’t heard much about it for the last few months, but the project isn’t dead, as Bloody Disgusting says that James McAvoy is now circling the movie.

He would play Eric Draven, a rock star who is brutally murdered along with his fiancee. He then comes back to life to avenge his and his fiancee’s murder, so their souls can finally rest in peace. Brandon Lee portrayed the iconic character in the original 1994 movie The Crow.

F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before The Fall) is set to direct from a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow. It isn’t known when production may begin (If McAvoy does sign on at the very earliest it would be after he finishes X-Men: Days Of Future Past).

The Crow Remake Gets Director F. Javier Gutierrez

January 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For the last few months, plans to remake The Crow have been thrown into the air after The Weinstein Company claimed they owned certain rights to the characters, meaning Relativity Media’s plan to reboot the franchise have been in jeopardy. However a couple of days ago it was announced the two sides had agreed terms that would end the legal action.

It seems that they’ve been plotting how they’d move forward while the legal wheels have been turning, as they’ve already closed a deal with F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) to direct the reinvention of The Crow, with writer Jesse Wigutow signed on to pen the script.

Gutiérrez’s directorial debut, the Spanish-language apocalyptic thriller Before the Fall (Tres Dias), became an international and award-winning sensation after premiering at the Berlinale Film Festival in 2008. He’s also currently developing Dimension Films’ sci-fi thriller The Greys.

The Crow adaptation is planned as a gritty reboot of the iconic character of Eric Draven, who returns from the grave as The Crow on a mission to avenge his wife’s murder, so that his soul can finally rest.

Previously the likes of Bradley Cooper and Mark Wahlberg have been attached to star in the film, but at the moment there’s no cast announced and it’s uncertain when it might shoot. (Source: Variety)
