Sony Officially Announces The Amazing Spider-Man 3 & 4

June 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-2-suitThe Amazing Spider-man 2 may not arrive in cinemas until May 2nd next year, but Sony obviously has a lot of confidence in it – as well as their ability to turn it into an on-going story – as they’ve already set release dates for The Amazing Spider-man 3 & 4.

Jeff Blake, Chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures, announced that the next two films in the story of Peter Parker will be released on June 10, 2016, and on May 4, 2018, respectively. That’ll certainly keep Andrew Garfield busy.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. It’s not known if any of them are working on the new sequels, although it is believed Vanderbilt was originally hired with a plan for a series of Spidey film. However, as his script was taken over by others, they may no longer be following his ideas.

Andrew Garfield’s Spidey Sense Is That ‘There Is No Argument’ Against Marriage Equality

April 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-manIt turns out even Spider-man is on the side of marriage equality, as in a new interview with The Times (via Gay Star News), Andrew Garfield has said he’s most definitely on the side of equal rights for all.

He says, “Of course I’m in favor of marriage equality. Same-sex couples should have the same rights as anybody else. There is no argument against equality. How can anyone argue against compassion and understanding?”

Garfield has previously played gay characters, including in a 2006 production of Beautiful Thing, Jonathan Harvey’s play about the romance between two teens boys on a downtrodden South London housing estate.

Talking about the play, Garfield says, “The simplicity of it is that it’s a profound, beautiful story of how love can transform you – gay, straight, bi, lesbian, whoever.”

A 20th anniversary adaptation of Beautiful Thing is currently playing at The Arts Theatre in London until May 25th.

Chris Cooper Is The New Green Goblin In The Amazing Spider-man 2

February 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris-CooperThe Amazing Spider-man 2 may have already started shooting, but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped hearing about new additions to the cast, as THR reports that Chris Cooper has signed on to portray Norman Osborn in the movie.

While we knew that Oscorp would feature in director Marc Webb’s sequel, Norman Osborn’s casting hasn’t been confirmed until now. Dane DeHaan is playing Norman’s son Harry Osborn.

It isn’t known at this time if Norman will transform into The Green Goblin in this sequel, or if they are holding off on using that villain for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 – the THR report does specifically mention Green Goblin, but it’s unlikely he’s a main bad bad guy in this film, although it’s possible his transformation will be in the film.

Marc Webb is directing from a screenplay by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Jeff Pinkner. Production is currently under way in New York City.

Take A Look At The New Amazing Spider-man 2 Suit

February 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-spider-man-2-suit
Last week Marc Webb tweeted a pic that suggested a slightly different look for Spidey in The Amazing Spider-man 2, and now ComingSoon, has managed to get hold of a better look, showing us the larger eyes and slightly changes to the colour and texture. Indeed it’s closer to the comic look than any of the previous movies.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough.

‘Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.’

The film’s due out May 2nd 2014.

First Glimpse Of Amazing Spider-man 2 Mask

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amazing-Spider-Man-2-EyeThe Amazing Spider-man 2 has been shooting for the last week or so. Director Marc Webb has been tweeting various teaser pics from the set, such as a strange Oscorp machine and various others props and bits of sets. Now he’s tweeted the first look at a new Spider-man mask.

Here’s the tweet: ‘telly.com/2T2GDJ – Day 9. #thebettertoseeyouwith’ — Marc Webb (@MarcW) February 14, 2013′

If you click the link it takes you to a short video, which includes the shot above, suggesting the Spidey mask is getting very dark. Or as it’s black, could it somehow be linked into rumours Venom will make some sort of appearance in the movie? It’s also been noted it’s a smaller eye than in the first movie, suggesting either a complete redesign or that this isn’t Spidey himself.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The sequel to last year’s critical and box office hit The Amazing Spider-Man, the film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field.

‘In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.’

It’s due out May 2nd 2014.

Amazing Spider-man 2 Gets An Official Synopsis As Shooting Begins

February 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Amazing Spider-manIt’s official, shooting is underway on The Amazing Spider-man 2, and to mark that an official synopsis has been released, along with the news Colm Feore has joined the cast. There’s also the mysterious image below, which teases some sort of new Oscorp technology.

So first up the synopsis: ‘In ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough.

Paul Giamatti’s involvement has also been confirmed, although there’s no official word on whether he’ll be playing the Rhino as rumoured. And while we know Colm Feore will be in the film, there’s no news on who he’ll play.

The pic below was tweeted by director Marc Webb, but he’s given little clue as to what it might mean.

Paul Giamatti In Talks To Play Rhino In Amazing Spider-Man 2

January 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paul-GiamattiPaul Giamatti may not be the first person you’d think of to play a villain called The Rhino, but Sony and director Marc Webb obviously think differently, as they’ve got the actor in talks to play that part in The Amazing Spider-man 2. Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) is also in negotiations for an unspecified role, according to THR.

The Rhino character first appeared in the Marvel comic Amazing Spider-Man #41 in 1966, as a Soviet thug who wears a superhuman suit that makes him virtually indestructible, while giving him super strength and speed. However in recent years he’s tended to be a more sympathetic character and some are speculating that rather than being a villain, Giamatti’s Rhino will highlight the unintended consequences of Oscorp’s work, which has already ended up with Spider-man and The Lizard.

What makes the choice of Giamatti perhaps less unexpected is that back in a March 2011 interview with ShowbizSpy, the actor said it was a dream role for him. “I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid,” he said. “It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me…If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.”

Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are returning as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, while new cast members include Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Shailene Woodley as Mary-Jane Watson, and Jamie Foxx as Electro. Filming starts next month for a summer 2014 release.

Marc Webb & Andrew Garfield Back For The Amazing Spider-Man 2

September 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While we knew Andrew Garfield would almost definitely be back for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (as he signed a multi-film contract), there’s been some uncertainty over whether director Marc Webb would be back. However now it’s been confirmed to return for web-slinging follow-up.

Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad commented, “We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker. We can’t wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide.”

Webb’s involvement was unsure due to the fact that his (500) Days Of Summer contract means he’s obligated to make another movie for Fox Searchlight Pictures. They allowed him to go off and make Spider-man, but it wasn’t certain if a new deal could be worked out to let him direct the sequel.

Shooting on The Amazing Spider-man 2 is expected to begin production in early 2013. Emma Stone is in talks to return as Gwen Stacy, but she’s not confirmed as yet. (Sourc: Variety)

Amazing Spider-man Confirmed As A Trilogy

July 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Several months ago Sony announced that they were already working on a sequel to The Amazing Spider-man, and now, with the reboot making mega-bucks around the globe, they’ve confirmed this will be the first part of a trilogy.

The movie was confirmed in a Facebook post, which says, ‘It’s finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first instalment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero’s journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.’

That seems to be a response to those who wondered what happened to the ‘Untold Story’ promised in the marketing materials. It appears a much larger part of the plot was originally about Peter’s parents and also added the idea that Peter didn’t get superpowers only because of being bitten by a spider. Many of these ideas appeared prominently in trailers and clips, but were cut from the final movie. However the Facebook post suggests that at least some of these threads will return in the planned trilogy.
