The Amazing Spider-man (Cinema)

July 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Martin Sheen, Rhys Ifans
Director: Marc Webb
Running Time: 136 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: July 3rd, 2012

Considering the amount of money studios spend on their tentpole flicks, you’d think that they’d at least be able to come up with something entertaining each time. However history has told us that each summer brings a slew of movies that promise much and deliver little. The moment it was announced that Sony was rebooting Spider-man only a decade after Sam Raimi’s first arachnid flicks, the fanboys and Internet doom-mongers immediately decried the whole idea and decided on principle that the film was a middle-finger to fans and to be ignored.

While some saw Marc Webb coming on-board to direct as a sign of promise, others immediately decided his lack of experience with big budget movies spelled disaster. Well, all the naysayers and incessant prophets of pessimism had better eat their words (and hopefully find something better to do with their lives, such as wait until movies are actually made and then go watch them), as The Amazing Spider-man is great. Crush Of The Day: Andrew Garfield In The Amazing Spider-man

July 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I have a feeling Andrew Garfield might be my Crush Of The Day pretty often in the next few months, especially now that The Amazing Spider-man has hit cinemas. However after I saw the pic above on the film’s Facebook page, I couldn’t help but proclaim my love here. I suggest printing the pic out and pasting you own face over that of Emma Stone, who plays Gwen Stacy in the movie. Enjoy the pic and a few more from the movie below. [Read more…]

New The Amazing Spider-man International Trailer

May 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Amazing Spider-man just looks cooler and cooler. It’s just over a month until it hits cinemas on July 3rd, and personally we can’t wait! Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy, and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors, his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

The Amazing Spider-man Four-Minute ‘Super Preview’

May 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While there were many groans when it was announced they were rebooting Spider-man so soon after Sam Raimi’s take on the character, the more we’ve seen, the cooler it’s looked, with Marc Webb’s film reinserting the wisecracking humour of the character, as well as having a rather cool look, which is partway between comic book and reality. Now a rather exciting four-minute preview has shown up, which gives us a great look at the movie.

Here’s the latest synopsis: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.’ The film’s out July 4th.

The Amazing Spider-man Featurette – Meet Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors

May 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s not too long until The Amazing Spider-man hits on July 4th, and now a new featurette has arrived that takes a look at Dr. Curt Connors, as played by Rhys Ifans, who becomes the villainous Lizard. Here’s the latest synopsis: ‘One of the world’s most popular characters is back on the big screen as a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy is revealed in The Amazing Spider-Man™. Focusing on an untold story that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story, the new film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, with Martin Sheen and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt, based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the film in association with Marvel Entertainment for Columbia Pictures, which will open in theatres everywhere in 3D.

Sony has been promising it all week and now it’s here, the rather groovy brand new international trailer for The Amazing Spider-man, which gives us out best look at the movie yet, including the villainous Lizard. Earlier today the first official in-movie shots of the character were released (taken from the trailer) and you can see those below.

Here’s the latest synopsis: ‘One of the world’s most popular characters is back on the big screen as a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy is revealed in The Amazing Spider-Man™. New The Amazing Spider-man International Trailer

April 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although early reports suggested Sony wanted a lower budget Spider-man with their Marc Webb directed reboot, the latest round of trailers certainly suggest it won’t be any less spectacular and also injects some of the humour of Spidey that was lacking from Sam Raimi’s film. In the film, Peter Parker finds a clue that might help him understand why his parents disappeared when he was young. His path puts him on a collision course with Dr. Curt Connors, his father’s former partner, who is also the villainous Lizard. The movie’s out July 4th.

Adrian Lyne Sets Up John Grisham Adaptation The Associate

April 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems there’s a bit of a John Grisham renaissance going on in Hollywood. Although there hasn’t been a film adaptation of one of his book since 2004, a TV series based on The Firm is now showing on US TV, a movie version of The Partner is in the works, and now Variety reports that Fatal Attraction director Adrian Lyne is attached to an adaptation of The Associate.

Lyne hasn’t had a film in cinemas since the Richard Gere and Diane Lane movie Unfaithful in 2002, so it’d be a bit of a comeback for him as well.

The Associate has been in the works for a movie version for several years, with Shia LaBeouf sniffing round in 2008, and Tony Scott interested in directing in 2010. Now Paramount wants to move ahead with the film, which sees a Yale law graduate getting blackmailed into taking a job with a big legal firm so that he can learn crucial details about a big case and pass them on to a mysterious man called Bennie.

Paramount would apparently like Spider-man star Andrew Garfield for the lead role, but at the moment he’s just at the top of a wishlist rather than having signed up to star.

First Amazing Spider-man Clip Surfaces

February 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first clip from the Amazing Spider-man has arrived, via the viral site markofthespider-man.com. If you were hoping for an effects filled fight scene you’ll be disappointed, as it simply features Peter Parker trying to get into Gwen Stacey’s apartment building, but having trouble with a snotty, overly security conscious doorman. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) is an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. The Amazing Spider-man International Trailer

February 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Anticipation for The Amazing Spider-man jumped considerably when a new, rather spectacular trailer was launched a couple of weeks ago. Now a new international version of that trailer has been released, which features some new footage from the big summer movie. Billed as ‘untold stories’ from Spider-man rather than a remake of Sam Raimi’s movies, Andrew Garfield takes over the web-slinging and goes back to high school. It’ll hit cinemas July 3rd.
