Jem and the Holograms Trailer – The adaptation of the 80s cartoon rocks in

May 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jem-and-the-holograms-posterMost people in the UK won’t know what Jem And The Holograms is, but Universal is hoping to change that before it’s pre-Christmas release, and to start off we’re getting a trailer. It’s better known in the US, where the 80s carton and toys still has a great cult following.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures’ Jem and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.

‘Directed by Jon M. Chu (Step Up series, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), the musical adventure stars Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis. Jem and the Holograms, based on the iconic Hasbro animated TV series, is written by Ryan Landels and produced by Chu, Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions, Scooter Braun for SB Projects, Bennett Schneir, and Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis of Hasbro Studios.’ [Read more…]

jem-and-the-holograms-pic10For those of us outside the US, a Jem And The Holograms movie seems an odd idea, as the cartoon and toy line never had the impact in many countries that it did in the US. However with those who grew up with the 80s show now in positions of power in Hollywood, a movie is on the way, and USA Today has debuted a set of pics from Jon M. Chu’s movie.

The movie is about an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation under her secret identity, Jem. She and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt – one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father.

Aubrey Peeples will be Jem, Stefanie Scott will be her little sister Kimber, while Hayley Kiyoko and Aurora Perrineau with be band members Aja and Shane. And as the pics above show, there’s also added hotness in the form of Ryan Guzman.

It certainly looks big, rock-driven and more than a little camp, at least from these photos anyway. The film is out this autumn. [Read more…]
