Most people in the UK won’t know what Jem And The Holograms is, but Universal is hoping to change that before it’s pre-Christmas release, and to start off we’re getting a trailer. It’s better known in the US, where the 80s carton and toys still has a great cult following.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures’ Jem and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.
‘Directed by Jon M. Chu (Step Up series, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), the musical adventure stars Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis. For those of us outside the US, a Jem And The Holograms movie seems an odd idea, as the cartoon and toy line never had the impact in many countries that it did in the US. However with those who grew up with the 80s show now in positions of power in Hollywood, a movie is on the way, and 
The Jem and the Holograms adaptation is fast coming together with two new actresses signing up for the movie – Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringwald. They’ve come on late as the Universal and Hasbro movie is already shooting in LA. under the direction of Jon M. Chu.
A few weeks ago it was announced that a movie version of the 1980s Hasbro toy line and cartoon series Jem And The Holograms is on the fast track. G.I. Joe Retaliation director Jon M. Chu will direct the movie, with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions (Insidious, The Purge) and musical mogul Scooter Braun producing.
