Retribution (Hellion) (DVD Review)

January 12, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Aaron Paul, Josh Wiggins, Juliette Lewis, Deke Garner
Director: Kat Candler
Running Time: 94 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: January 12th 2015 (UK)

DVD covers don’t always 100% reflect the actual movie, and that certainly seems the case with Retribution. Looking at the cover you could be forgiven for thinking the film is an action thriller, but it’s not, it’s actually a rather serious indie drama.

The movie itself – originally called Hellion – is set in Texas and centres on 13-year-old Jacob ( Josh Wiggins), an angry and difficult young man who’s only one step away from juvenile detention. He’s still deep in grief for his dead mother, not helped much by his emotionally distant father, Hollis (Aaron Paul), who’s barely holding on himself. [Read more…]

Juliette Lewis & Molly Ringwald Join Jem and the Holograms

May 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Juliette-LewisThe Jem and the Holograms adaptation is fast coming together with two new actresses signing up for the movie – Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringwald. They’ve come on late as the Universal and Hasbro movie is already shooting in LA. under the direction of Jon M. Chu.

Aubrey Peeples is playing Jerrica, a young orphan who becomes a rock star named Jem, with the help of some high-tech earrings and her best friends (Stefanie Scott (Kimber), Aurora Perrineau (Shana) and Hayley Kiyoko (Aja)). Ryan Guzman is set to be Rio, the Holograms’ manager and Jem’s love interest.

It’s not clear who Juliette Lewis or Molly Ringwald will play, although there’s some speculation they’ll be members of the evil Riot Girl band, which is led by Phyllis “Pizzazz” Gabor, a spoiled child living off her dad’s money and trying to upstage Jem every chance she gets.

It would be particularly fitting for Lewis, as she fronted her own band Juliette and the Licks until 2009, before going solo.

The film’s due out next year.

Juliette Lewis Toplining Fellini Reimagining Days Of Mary

May 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Juliette Lewis may not always be the best of actresses (although she has put in some great performances), but she always picks interesting projects to work on. Now Variety reports that she’s taking the lead in Days Of Mary, which is a reimagining of Federico Fellini’s Nights Of Cabiria.

While the 1957 Italian movie is about a prostitute living in Rome, this new take moves things to Utah and follows an eternally optimistic working girl who’s looking for love to escape the broken world of Reno. It’s definitely an idea that has potential, and Lewis always does best with characters who have a sunny disposition despite the hardships they face.

Lewis has recently trying out TV with a series based on John Grisham’s The Firm, however due to low ratings it’s almost certain the show has been cancelled, allowing Juliette to head back to the movies. Days Of Mary will shoot this summer with Brad Michael Gilbert directing.
