Freak Show Trailer – Alex Lawther, Bette Midler & Laverne Cox star in the queer-themed movie

May 21, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Freak Show is preparing for its UK release, and in the run-up to the queer-themed movie’s British debut, a new trailer and poster has been released. The film also marks the feature directorial debut of Trudie Styler, best known for acting, producing and being married to Sting.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the award-winning cult novel by James St James and in the vein of ’Clueless’ and ‘Napoleon Dynamite,’ FREAK SHOW tells the moving, heart-breaking and hilarious story of Billy Bloom (Alex Lawther), a boldly confident and eccentric teenager who faces intolerance and persecution at his ultra conservative high school, and decides to fight back on behalf of all the misunderstood freaks of the world. FREAK SHOW stars Alex Lawther alongside Abigail Breslin, Bette Midler, Larry Pine, John McEnroe, AnnaSophia Robb and Laverne Cox and comes to cinemas across the UK and on demand on 22 June through Maven Pictures.

‘BILLY BLOOM (Alex Lawther), once lived a fabulous life in Connecticut, with his equally fabulous mother, MUV (Bette Midler). But when he is suddenly shipped off to his father’s (Larry Pine) Southern mansion, he finds himself a fish out of water.

‘With his closet of extravagant and flamboyant attire, Billy is completely different from the cheerleaders, bible belles and beefy quarterbacks at his new high school. Yet despite the well-meant advice of his father and his housekeeper FLORENCE (Celia Weston) that he should just throw on some blue jeans, Billy is determined to be himself – even if that does mean wearing face glitter to school.’

Maggie (Blu-ray Review)

December 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Abigail Breslin, Joely Richardson
Director: Henry Hobson
Running Time: 95 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: November 23rd 2015 (UK)

Arnold Schwarzenegger makes a zombie movie! He’s going to be blowing the undead away left, right and centre, while mumbling memorable catchphrases, isn’t he? Actually, no, as this is something very different both for the Terminator and for zombie flicks. Except for the undead, this is Arnie in a small-scale mother-daughter indie melodrama, with fairly little action and much soul-searching.

Schwarzenegger is Wade Vogel, who’s living with his wife and kids in the middle of nowhere, where they’ve managed to escape a zombie plague that has affected millions. After his eldest daughter, Maggie (Abigail Breslin), gets bitten and infected, he goes to pick her up from quarantine to take her home, knowing that while she will be okay for a while, eventually she will turn and have to be taken away before she turns completely – assuming she doesn’t die before then. Maggie Trailer – Arnold Schwarznegger has a zombie daughter

March 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

maggie-arnold-schwarzeneggerMaggie has been waiting in the wings for quite a while, as Arnie filmed it over a year ago, but now it’s getting ready for its release and a trailer have arrived.

It’s something a little different for Schwarzenegger as while it sounds like it could be a big action epic, it’s actually quieter and more introspective than you might expect.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘There’s a deadly zombie epidemic threatening humanity, but Wade (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a small-town farmer and family man, refuses to accept defeat even when his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) becomes infected. As Maggie’s condition worsens and the authorities seek to eradicate those with the virus, Wade is pushed to the limits in an effort to protect her. Joely Richardson co-stars in this post-apocalyptic thriller.’

It’s out in the US on May 8th, but no UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

New August: Osage County Trailer – Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts & Benedict Cumberbatch team up

September 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As this trailer shows, August: Osage County has certainly pulled together an impressive cast, including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Abigail Breslin, Chris Cooper, Juliette Lewis, Dermot Mulroney and Sam Shepard.

Based on Terry Letts’ Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play, the film is about the dysfunctional Weston family and the daughters who have gone their separate ways, until a crisis brings them back to their Midwestern home. The film should be out later this year.

John Wells directs. The movie is due for an Oscar qualifying run in the US this Christmas, which a UK release set for mid January. [Read more…]

Abigail Breslin Joins Arnie In The Zombie Flick Maggie

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Abigail-BreslinRemember the cute little girl from Signs and Little Miss Sunshine? Well, now Abigail Breslin is 17-years-old and having had a few run-ins with the undead in Zombieland, she’s now returning to zombie territory for Maggie.

She’s in talks to play the title role, according to THR, which will see her starring opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. Chloe Moretz was originally set to play Maggie, but she’s been forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

In the movie, a zombie epidemic has spread across the country. The main plot follows a father (Schwarzenegger) whose daughter Maggie (Breslin) has become infected, as he tries to get her to come to terms with the plague and her fate, before she becomes one of the walking dead.

Commercials director Henry Hobson is set to make his feature directorial debut with Maggie, which is based on a script by John Scott 3. Filming will start later this year.

August: Osage County Trailer – Meryl Streep launches her next Oscar campaign

May 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A very strange thing happened this year – Meryl Streep wasn’t nominated for an Oscar. However on the evidence of this trailer, she’s going for yet another nom with August: Osage County.

Based on Terry Letts’ Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play, the star-packed film also stars Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Abigail Breslin, Chris Cooper, Juliette Lewis, Dermot Mulroney and Sam Shepard.

John Wells directs the film, which is about the dysfunctional Weston family and the daughters who have gone their separate ways, until a crisis brings them back to their Midwestern home. The film should be out later this year. [Read more…]

Ender’s Game Teaser – Harrison Ford & Asa Butterfield take on the aliens (but should gay people boycott the film?)

May 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac 3 Comments

I’ve been slightly torn whether I should post the trailer for Ender’s Game. There have already been calls for a boycott of the movie, due to the fact it’s based on a book by noted homophobe Orson Scott Card.

The author has previously said he believes gay sex should be banned (although he’s more recently suggested he no longer wants to see it criminalised), that same sex marriage is wrong, and has linked child abuse and homosexuality. He also sits on board of directors of the National Organization for Marriage, one of the leading anti-equal marriage lobbies, and one that’s been particularly unpleasant in its rhetoric.

Others have suggested we should see the film as a separate entity, and not bring Card’s politics into it. After all, many involved have pledged their support for gay marriage, such as actor Harrison Ford.

While I’m still not sure whether we should be supporting the film or not, I’ve decided I would post the teaser, and you can make up your own mind.

Harrison Ford plays Colonel Hyram Graff, who oversees a military facility where gifted youngsters are trained to prevent an imminent alien attack. Abigail Breslin is playing Valentine Wiggin, the older sister to the titular trainee Ender (Hugo star Asa Butterfield), while Hailee Steinfeld is set to be Ender’s ally, Petra Arkanian. Aramis Knight, Moises Arias, Jimmy Pinchak, Suraj Partha, Conor Carroll, and Khylin Rhambo also star.

The film will hit cinemas on October 25th.

Do you think we should boycott the film? Let us know in the comments below?

The Call Trailer – Halle Berry attempts to rescue Abigail Breslin

January 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-call-pic1Halle Berry’s movie output has been very up and down, with some good movies interspersed amongst a lot of rubbish. She’ll be hoping her new film, The Call, fares better than the likes of Dark Tide and Frankie & Alice.

The Brad Anderson (The Machinist) movie sees Berry as a 911 operator who gets call from a kidnapped teenager (Abigail Breslin). Jordan soon realises that the abduction has ties to an incident from her past, and that she must face her demons if the girl is to get out alive.

It’s one of those premises that could make for an okay movie, but already sounds slightly unbelievable. Hopefully the film will be okay. Check out the trailer below. No UK date is currently set, but it’s out in the US in March. [Read more…]

Abigail Breslin Joins Vincenzo Natali’s ‘Reverse Ghost Story’ Haunter

April 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Abigail Breslin is one of the few child actors who it’s easy to see working through that awkward teenage stage and still being a star as a grown up. Variety reports that The 15-year-old has now signed on to star in Haunter, a supernatural thriller from Splice director Vincenzo Natali.

The project is described as a ‘reverse ghost story,’ focusing on Lisa (Abigail Breslin), a teenage girl who was murdered along with the rest of her family in 1986. However, their spirits never left the house and Lisa realises she must reach out to the young girl now living there in order to prevent her from suffering the same mysterious death.

Natali is directing from a screenplay by Matthew Brian King, with filming set to being later this month in Toronto.

Abigail Breslin Joins Halle Berry In The Hive

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Believe it or not, but Oscar-nominee Abigail Breslin is nearly 16-years-old (yep, Little Miss Sunshine was nearly seven years ago now!). However she’s still one of the best young actresses around and she’s now boarded the thriller, The Hive, joining Halle Berry who signed up for Brad Anderson’s movie earlier this month.

The film is about an emergency call centre operator who is forced to confront a killer from her past in order to save a young girl’s life. Halle Berry is playing the 911 operator while Breslin will be the endangered girl. The project is based on an original idea by writers Richard D’Ovidio, Nicole D’Ovidio, and Jon Bokencamp.

Director Brad Anderson commented on the latest casting, “Abigail is always wonderful playing vulnerable characters so I feel really lucky to have her for this role.” (Source: Variety)
