Christian Bale May Find Transcendence Alongside Johnny Depp

October 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last week it was revealed that Christopher Nolan’s longtime cinematographer, Wally Pfister, was planning his first movie as a director, and Johnny Depp is in talks to star. Now the LA Times reports that there are three main roles, and that while Depp will hopefully take one of them, Pfister is hoping Christian Bale will take another part in Transcendence.

Of course, that’s very different from saying Bale will indeed sign on, especially as he’s known for being incredibly picky about his projects. However as he’s worked with Pfister on the likes of the Dark Knight movies and The Prestige, and Chris Nolan will executive produce Transcendence, there’s at least a decent chance he can get Bale involved.

Other actors who’ve apparently been contacted about the film include Noomi Rapace, James McAvoy, Tobey Maguire and Christoph Waltz, although again it’s not known how serious those discussions have, and we’d be stunned if they all ended up in the movie.

As with Nolan’s movies, there’s huge secrecy surrounding the film, so not much is known about it. However it’s likely to shoot this winter in LA.

Christian Bale Reuniting With Director David O. Russell

October 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The last time Christian Bale made a movie with David O. Russell – The Fighter – he won an Oscar, so he certainly has plenty to thank the director for. Now Bale has signed up for another Russell movie, joining Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, and Amy Adams in the director’s currently untitled new ensemble drama, which used to be known as American Bullshit.

The film marks the director’s first time working with Renner, and his second collaborations with Bale (The Fighter), Adams (The Fighter) and Cooper (The Silver Linings Playbook). The movie based on the true story of a notorious financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams), who were forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters, and politicians. At the centre of the entire tale, is the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Renner) who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden. Russell is currently writing the film’s screenplay alongside Eric Singer, based on Singer’s original script.

Producer Charles Roven commented, “David has put together an incredible ensemble of actors for what is going to be a powerful and emotional drama about one of the most memorable cast of characters in recent history.”

The tentative plan is to have the movie ready for release in late 2013. (Source: Variety)

Christian Bale Gets The Creed of Violence

August 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Now he’s free of the Bat, Christian Bale has spent time working with Terrence Malick and now he’s looking for new projects and is in talks to star in The Creed of Violence for writer/director Todd Field (In the Bedroom).

The film is adapted from Boston Teran’s novel, set during the 1910 Mexican Revolution. It follows Rawbone, a two-bit assassin, and John Lourdes, a Bureau of Investigation officer, who are forced to work together to penetrate the Mexican underworld. Christian Bale is in negotiations to play Rawbone, although there is no guarantee at the moment that a deal will be finalised.

Last October Leonardo DiCaprio was offered both the Rawbone and John Lourdes roles. It isn’t known if he is still in the mix to play the federal law man, although as there’s no mention of him, probably not. Field is eyeing an early 2013 shoot start. (Source: Variety)

Take a look at them above and below and revel in the Bane and Catwoman goodness. The film’s out July 20th.

New The Dark Knight Rises Trailer – The Bat is back

May 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With all the excitement over The Avengers, film fans forgot about The Dark Knight Rises for five minutes, which is probably a good thing as the movie is in danger of reaching hype levels it can’t possibly live up to. Now a new trailer has popped up giving us our best look at the movie yet. The trailer suggests the film will be a grand spectacle and it’s interesting that Chris Nolan is using bridges again, something that’s been a theme through the earlier two movies.

Despite his tarnished reputation after the events of The Dark Knight, in which he took the rap for Dent’s crimes, Batman feels compelled to intervene to assist the city and its police force which is struggling to cope with the villainous Bane’s plans to destroy the city. And then there’s also the mysterious Selina Kyle. The film hits cinemas July 20th.

Christian Bale & Bradley Cooper In Talks For American Bullsh*t

April 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With David O’Russell putting the finishing touches on The Silver Linings Playbook, there’s been a lot of interest in what he’ll move onto next. He’s got quite a few movies in the works, but now it appear American Bullshit has moved towards the front of the pack, with Deadline reporting Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper are now attached to star and Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures is putting together a deal to finance the movie.

Eric Singer’s based on a true story script, which has been around for a while and at one point was going to be helmed by Ben Affleck, centres on a con artist who goes to work for the FBI to bust open a wide-ranging conspiracy case, which reaches from Washington D.C. to Atlantic City. The sting ended up taking down several dodgy US congressmen.

The $30-$40 million movie will hopefully shoot in January, although with O’Russell having deals on several other pictures too, it’s likely something’s going to have to move around if they’re going to keep to that schedule.

Batman & Catwoman Makes The EW Cover

April 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Dark Knight Rises is three months away, and for many people it’s the only release of the summer they care about. The film is nearing completion as it was recently handed a PG-13 US rating by the MPAA, which should equate to a 12A certificate over here.

To drum up just a little more excitement, Batman & Catwoman have made the cover of Entertainment Weekly, which you can see above.

The film’s out July 20th.
