The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Case (Blu-ray Review)

October 21, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Frances O'Connor, Simon McBurney, Franka Potente
Director: James Wan
Running Time: 134 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 17th 2016 (UK)

The Conjuring surprised many when it grossed over $300 million on a $20 million budget. It ensured that a sequel was quickly put in the works (as well as last year’s spin-off, Annabelle), with the filmmakers looking through the cases of Ed and Lorraine Warren for more inspiration. What they came up with was the Enfield Poltergeist, one of Britain’s most documented paranormal cases, which was also the inspiration for Sky TV’s The Enfield Haunting earlier this year.

The film starts out with another very famous case the Warrens were involved in, Amityville, before moving to Britain and the Hodgson family, living in a council house in North London. Single mother Patricia (Frances O’Connor) and her two daughters and two sons, are being increasingly frightened by paranormal activity, which is moving things around the house and possessing one of the daughters. Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes Trailer – Jessica Biel and Kaya Scodelario star in the Sundance flick

April 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Emanuel and the Truth about Fishes got decent notices when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Now the first trailer for the movie has been released for the movie, which stars Jessica Biel, Frances O’Connor and Kaya Scodelario.

In the movie, a troubled girl (Scodelario) becomes preoccupied with her mysterious new neighbor (Biel), who bears a striking resemblance to her dead mother. In offering to baby-sit Linda’s newborn, Emanuel unwittingly enters a fragile, fictional world, of which she becomes the gatekeeper.

The film will screen at Sundance London on April 26th. [Read more…]

Frances O’Connor Wants Mercy In A New Stephen King Adaptation

October 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a few years there was a bit of a lull in adaptations of Stephen King novels, but recently he seems to have become flavour of the month again, from Scott Derrickson planning a film version of The Breathing Method to Jonathan Demme working on 11/22/63. Now THR reports that Peter Cornwell (The Haunting in Connecticut) is planning Mercy, and has Frances O’Connor signed up to star.

If you’re racking your brains to remember a King book called Mercy, there isn’t one. The film will be based on his short story Gramma, which was included in the author’s 1985 collection Skeleton Key, after originally appearing on Weirdbook magazine.

The film will see O’Connor as a mother with two young sons who come to discover their ailing grandmother, Mercy, is a witch.

As with The Breathing Method, Paranromal Activity producer Jason Blum is shepherding the project to the screen, and also like that film, the plan is to keep the budget tight.
