Kiss Me, Kill Me (US DVD/VoD Review)

December 4, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Van Hansis, Gale Harold, Matthew Ludwinski, Brianna Brown, Jai Rodriguez
Director: Casper Andreas
Running Time: 100 mins
Certificate: NR
Release Date: December 7th 2016

A few years ago, gay-themed thrillers were something of a rarity. While they’re not exactly common now, we have had an increasing amount recently. Now we have another with Kiss Me Kill Me, from Casper Andreas, who heads in a different direction from previous efforts such as The Big Gay Musical, and Going Down in LA-LA Land.

The film is also noted for being the first queer project for Gale Harold (or as the film properly titles him, Gale M. Harold III) since the US version of Queer As Folk. Alongside him there’s Van Hansis (a four-time Emmy nominee for As The World Turns) along with his Eastsiders co-star Kit Williamson, Big Gay Love & Gayby’s Jonathan Lisecki, Queer Eye’s Jai Rodriguez, Devious Maid’s Brianna Brown, The Get Down’s Yolanda Ross, and LA-LA Land & Seek’s Matthew Ludwinski. It may not have the star power of Ocean’s 11, but there are certainly a lot more recognisable faces than your average gay-themed movie. [Read more…]

kiss-me-kill-me-slideWe’ve been following Kiss Me, Kill Me since it announced a Kickstarter campaign last October. It hasn’t taken them long to get the film made and into the editing suite, with a poster released a few weeks ago and now a trailer.

The film is the first gay role for Gale Harold since Queer As Folk, who stars alongside As the World Turns and Eastsiders’ Van Hansis. Yolonda Ross (“Whitney”), Craig Robert Young (The Last Ship), Jai Rodriguez (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), Kit Williamson (Madmen), Matthew Ludwinski (Going Down in LA-LA Land), D.J. “Shangela” Pierce (Rupaul’s Drag Race), Jackie Monahan (Codependent Space Alien Seeks Same) and Allison Lane (Going Down in LA-LA Land) also appear.

Kiss Me, Kill Me is described a contemporary Alfred Hitchcock/Agatha Christie-style ‘who-done-it’, with the mystery centered on Dusty, who confronts his unfaithful boyfriend and blacks-out, only to wake up to find his boyfriend murdered and he’s the prime suspect.

The Gay-Themed Kiss Me, Kill Me Marks The End Of Principal Photography With A Pic Of Van Hansis

February 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

van-hansis-kiss-me-kill-meOften it seems that things move incredibly slowly in Hollywood, but there are also moments when things go at lightning speed, and that’s the case with the gay-themed mystery Kiss Me, Kill Me. In October 2014 it was seeking funding on Kickstarter, by November it got the greenlight, it started filming a few weeks ago and now it’s wrapped production.

To mark the occasion director Casper Andreas tweeted/instagrammed the pic above of one of the movie’s stars, Van Hansis, along with the words, ‘Directing from the backseat! #KissMeKillMe @ Echo Park & Sunset Blvd’, following it up a little later with ‘Ubering it home after wrapping principal photography of @kissmekillmemovie! Thrilled with everything we shot! Thrilled to be done! #prouddirector #KissMeKillMe #murdermystery #LosAngeles #filmnoir #exhausted #goodnight’.

Kiss Me, Kill Me is a contemporary Alfred Hitchcock/Agatha Christie-style ‘who-done-it’, with the mystery centered on Dusty, who confronts his unfaithful boyfriend and blacks-out, only to wake up to find his boyfriend murdered and he’s the prime suspect.

The picture stars Gale Harold, playing a gay character for the first time since his iconic performance as Brian Kinney on Showtime’s Queer as Folk, and three-time Emmy nominee Van Hansis, from As the World Turns, and the acclaimed Eastsiders.

The movie will hopefully be ready for screens later this year.

Gale Harold & Van Hansis’ Gay Themed Murder Mystery Gets The Go Ahead

November 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gale-harold-van-hansisThis time last month we reported that a brand new gay-themed murder mystery, Kiss Me, Kill Me, was seeking funding on Kickstarter. Well now it’s announced that it got the cash it needs and the film has the greenlight. It’s now set to go into production in December.

While the movie initially sought $100,000 on Kickstarter with the hope that in an ideal world they’d end up with $125,000. But when the campaign ended it had raised an awesome $131,231.

The month-long crowd-funding effort caused a groundswell among supporters, whose fan-made artwork, videos and music aided the campaign on social media. Director Caspers Andreas says he is beyond thrilled with the outpouring of support for the film: “The huge success of this campaign is a reminder how important movies with LGBT content are to audiences.” He continues, “Hollywood is not producing these sort of films, and we would not be able to do it without the fans.”

Joining Harold and Hansis is an impressive cast, including Willam Belli (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Kit Williamson (Eastsiders, Mad Men), Independent Spirit nominee Yolonda Ross (Go For Sisters), Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Brianna Brown (Devious Maids), Jonathan Lisecki (Gayby), Michael Maize (True Blood), Craig Robert Young (NCIS: Los Angeles), Jackie Monahan (Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same), as well as Matthew Ludwinski and Allison Lane, who both previously starred in Andreas’ Going Down in LA-LA Land.

gale-harold-van-hansisIt’s murder mystery time in West Hollywood Kiss Me, Kill Me, the new film from Going Down in LALA Land director Caspar Andreas, which has lined up an impressive cast of LGBT and gay-friendly actors. However it needs your help, as the movie has launched a Kickstarter campaign hoping to raise an ambitious $100,000 to get it onto screens.

The movie will see Gale Harold in his first gay role since Queer As Folk, starring alongside As The World Turns and Eastsiders’ Van Hansis. With a script by Such Good People’s David Michael Barrett, Kiss Me Kill Me is described as ‘a contemporary Alfred Hitchcock/Agatha Christie-style “who-done-it,” with the mystery centered on Dusty who confronts his unfaithful boyfriend and blacks-out, only to wake up to find the boyfriend murdered and he’s the prime suspect.’

“I’m beyond thrilled about the fantastic cast we have assembled,” says director Andreas. “That we managed to attach such great talent is a testament to David’s sensational screenplay. I can’t wait to get started on the production and get to work with these wonderful actors, including my two Going Down in LA-LA Land stars, Matthew and Allison.”

As nearly always with crowdfunding, if you help the film out there are perks on offer ranging from digital downloads or being an extra, to a speaking part and different producing levels. If it sounds like something you might want to see, take a look at the funding video below and then head over to Kickstarter. [Read more…]
