Goodbye Christopher Robin Trailer – The story behind AA Milne and Winnie the Pooh

It looks like Goodbye Christopher Robin will be one of the movies hoping for a bit of awards love at the end of the year, telling the true story behind the creation of Winnie The Pooh. Now the trailer for the movie has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘GOODBYE CHRISTOPHER ROBIN gives a rare glimpse into the relationship between beloved children’s author A. A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) and his son Christopher Robin, whose toys inspired the magical world of Winnie the Pooh. Along with his mother Daphne (Margot Robbie), and his nanny Olive (Kelly Macdonald), Christopher Robin and his family are swept up in the international success of the books; the enchanting tales bringing hope and comfort to England after the First World War. But with the eyes of the world on Christopher Robin, what will the cost be to the family?

‘Additional cast includes Stephen Campbell Moore, Alex Lawther, Richard McCabe, Nico Mirallegro, Geraldine Somerville and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The film is directed by Simon Curtis (WOMAN IN GOLD, MY WEEK WITH MARILYN) from a script written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce (RAILWAY MAN, MILLIONS) and Simon Vaughan (“War and Peace”). Damian Jones (ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS: THE MOVIE, THE LADY IN THE VAN) produced with Steve Christian (BELLE), and Curtis and Vaughan also served as executive producers.’

New UK Brave Trailer – Pixar goes Celtic

Those lucky Yanks get to watch Pixar’s latest, Brave, from today, as it’s just been released in cinemas over there. Us Brits have to wait a while, with it reaching Scottish cinemas on August 3rd and the rest of the UK on August 17th, but to help us bide our time, Disney has released a brand new trailer for the film, giving us our best look at it yet. Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘A grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humor, “Brave” uncovers a new tale in the mysterious Highlands of Scotland where the impetuous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) defies an age-old custom and inadvertently unleashes chaos, forcing her to discover the meaning of true bravery before it’s too late.’

First Trailer & Poster For Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina

Director Joe Wright has reteamed with his Pride & Prejudice and Atonement star Keira Knightley for a new take on Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, and has brought Aaron Johnson, Jude Law and Kelly MacDonald along for the ride. Now the first trailer and poster has arrived, ahead of the film’s release on September 3rd. The poster makes everything look a bit Baz Luhrman, while the trailer focuses on the film’s rather extravagant opulence.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Keira Knightley stars as Anna Karenina in Joe Wright’s version of Tolstoy’s epic love story. Adapted by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), Jude Law plays Anna’s husband Aleksei Karenin and Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy) stars as Count Vronsky. Rounding out the cast are Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Matthew Macfadyen (Pride & Prejudice), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Alicia Vikander (The Seventh Son), two-time Academy Award nominee Emily Watson, Olivia Williams (Hanna), and Ruth Wilson (Luther).

‘The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.

‘Anna Karenina marks Wright’s fourth film with Working Title, following the award-winning box office successes Pride & Prejudice and Atonement and The Soloist. The film is produced by Working Title co-chairmen Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and reunites them with Paul Webster, all three of whom produced Wright’s first two films Pride & Prejudice and Atonement.’

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In Brave, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. Beautiful First TV Spot For Pixar’s Brave

Pixar is pretty much incapable of making an ugly film and it sure ain’t gonna start with Brave. The first TV spot for the film, which reaches the UK August 13th, concentrates on just how beautiful the film is likely to be. Here’s the synopsis: ‘A grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humor, “Brave” uncovers a new tale in the mysterious Highlands of Scotland where the impetuous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) defies an age-old custom and inadvertently unleashes chaos, forcing her to discover the meaning of true bravery before it’s too late.’

Brave is something a little bit different from Pixar – but then, you can say that about pretty much every new movie they make – and now a new poster and a two and a half minute clip from the movie have arrived, featuring some Celtic highland games and young warrior Merida showing what a headstrong woman she can be. Mixing fact and fiction, the past with present sensibilities and a great cast, Boardwalk Empire hit TV with a bang. Much of the initial interest came from the fact Martin Scorsese directed the first episode, and his influence is felt throughout the 12 episodes of Season 1. With the little expense spared in the creation of 1920s Atlantic City, it’s an incredibly rich world full of well-written characters, plenty of intrigue, decadence and moments of shocking violence.

The series centres around Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), a fictionalised version of a real-life New Jersey prohibition figure, who’s the treasurer of Atlantic City and one of its most esteemed businessmen – largely because he’s got the entire city in his pocket and his criminal network is pretty much untouchable [Read more…]

If one thing is certain in life, it’s that Pixar movies always look stunningly gorgeous, and it certainly seems Brave will follow suit. We got a teaser a couple of months ago, but now Disney has released a full trailer for the movie. Here’s the synopsis: ‘A grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humor, “Brave” uncovers a new tale in the mysterious Highlands of Scotland where the impetuous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) defies an age-old custom and inadvertently unleashes chaos, forcing her to discover the meaning of true bravery before it’s too late.’ The film is due to hit UK cinemas August 17th, 2012.

New Images From Pixar’s Brave

A couple new images from Pixar’s upcoming movie Brave. The one above sees main character Merida following a wisp, although sadly I don’t think this means Pixar is taking the classic early 80s British children’s TV show Willo The Wisp to the big screen. The image below meanwhile features (from left to right) Lord MacGuffin, Lord Dingwall and Lord MacIntosh.
