Sam Claflin Say He Wouldn’t Mind Making A Gay 50 Shades With The Hemsworth Brothers

June 13, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’ve seen Sam Claflin in person a couple of times, and he’s always struck me as a genuinely nice man. Now he’s gone up even further in my estimation by suggesting he wouldn’t mind getting steamy on screen with the Hemsworth brothers.

Talking to Pridesource while promoting his new movie, My Cousin Rachel, the 30-year-old British actor was asked about the strange world of fan fiction, particularly the stories about himself and his Hunger Games co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. He replied, “Fan fiction is one of those things I wish I knew more about. Someone was telling me that Fifty Shades of Grey was based on Twilight fan fiction. I didn’t realize there was an underworld with these kind of amazingly imaginative ideas. I had no idea!

“But I love Liam as much as I love – in fact, I love Chris Hemsworth. I love the entire Hemsworth family. I say we get all of us involved and we do a Fifty Shades of Grey. We can make it reality.”

While he’s probably joking – although if any movie bosses want to make it a reality, we’d be very supportive of that decision – he says he’d certainly be happy to play a gay role. Claflin says, “I actually got offered the role of a gay man in a TV series! But I didn’t think it was well enough written. I have auditioned for gay parts and not got them and desperately wanted them. It’s nothing I’m shying away from. It’s something I fully embrace. And, actually, I have done it in plays during drama school, but it just hasn’t worked yet for me. But I’d jump at the chance.”

He’s also a big proponent of equality, adding, “It does really upset me that people aren’t open-minded. People are still hung up on such a traditional old-world life, and people should be allowed to love who they want and be who they want and speak what they want and believe in what they want. I think it’s a shame that people are so narrow-minded that they believe their way is the only way. It’s sickening, in all honesty.”

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, he’s off the market, as he’s married to Da Vinci’s Demons and Guardians of the Galaxy actress, Laura Haddock.

Independence Day: Resurgence Extended Trailer – The aliens still really don’t like us

May 23, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

independence-day-resurgence-teaser-poster-slideWhile 1996’s Independence Day was a big hit on its first released, it’s been a long time since it first arrived in cinemas. As a result there are plenty of movie fans around who were barely born when it first came out, and so Fox is making sure it’s not resting on the first movie’s laurels when it comes of the marketing. That includes releasing an extended five-minute trailer to give us a full taste of the movie, including plenty of action, darkness and a bit more of the plot.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale.  Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet.  But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force.  Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.’

Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward star, with Roland Emmerich once more directing. It’ll be in cinemas June 23rd. [Read more…]

New Independence Day: Resurgence Trailer – Once again, no landmark is safe from the aliens

April 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

independence-day-resurgence-slideHaving talked about it ever the first Independence Day became a gargantuan hit in 1996, we are finally getting a sequel, Resurgence. Many of the old face return, including Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner, along with a new generation, led by Jessie Usher and Liam Hemsworth.

Will Smith isn’t returning, but the aliens sure are, and this promo certainly wants to be a bit dark and moody, although right at the end suggests it will retain the humour that helped make the first one a hit. They’re also certainly keen to suggest that things are getting bigger.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (Blu-ray Review)

March 20, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Donald Sutherland
Director: Francis Lawrence
Running Time: 137 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: March 21st 2016 (UK)

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 was an entertaining movie but there’s no doubt that it largely felt like it was laying the groundwork and building us up for Part 2. Now that film is coming to Blu-ray, so that those who didn’t catch it in cinemas can find out how the struggle between the Districts and the Capitol ends.

Panem is now in full-scale Civil War, with Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) having been enrolled as the Mockingjay, a figurehead that District 13 President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore) wants to use for propaganda purposes. However, all Katniss really wants is to kill President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the hope it will bring everything to an end. She also becomes increasingly suspicious of Coin, concerned that if she takes control after the Capitol collapses, they could be simply replacing one despot with another. [Read more…]

independence-day-resurgence-teaser-poster-slideAt the end of Independence Day mankind had won, but it was also clear that this might not be the end of our issues with aliens that want us dead. Now, two decades later, they’re back and Independence Day: Resurgence’s Super Bowl spot wants us to know we’ve got trouble.

Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction’

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (Cinema Review)

November 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman
Director: Francis Lawrence
Running Time: 127 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: November 19th 2015 (UK)

Here we have the end of a franchise that initially I didn’t think I would like, but which I have been impressed with over the years. Yet another teen book sensation transitioned onto the big screen, and on the surface The Hunger Games (2012) seemed like a tween rip-off of the excellent Battle Royal (2000). However, it was so much more than what I was expecting and its sequel Catching Fire (2013) is one of those rare sequels that is better than its predecessor.

As Hollywood trends seem fit, the third and final book, Mockingjay, was split into two movies a la Harry Potter, Divergent and Twilight. But this trend generates more money for the studio and the audience gets more time with the characters and story that they love. Everyone (in theory) wins, although with Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) the audience was left hungry for more (pun intended). [Read more…]
