Pitch Perfect 3 (Blu-ray Review) – The Bellas are back for a final acapella adventure

April 30, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, Hailee Steinfeld
Director: Trish Sie
Running Time: 93 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: April 23rd 2018 (UK)

When the plot of a sequel is that the characters are being sent off on a holiday, it’s usually a good time to start to worry. It’s typically the point in a franchise when the makers have run out of ideas and so they put the characters in a new environment in the hope that people won’t notice that they couldn’t really decide what the movie should be about.

That’s pretty much true of Pitch Perfect 3, where the former Barden Bellas get the opportunity to participate in a USO military tour, performing with other bands in different countries. To add a little random competition to the mix, the best of those bands will be chosen by DJ Khaled to open for him on his tour. That’s the cue for the Bellas to go into crisis of confidence of mode as they realise that being the best at acapella-ing doesn’t necessarily mean they can go toe-to-toe with an all-female pop-rock group, a country artist and a couple of rappers. New Pitch Perfect 3 Trailer – Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson & the Bellas are back

September 25, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After the surprise success of Pitch Perfect, Universal set up the sequel on the presumption that would be it for Anna Kendrick and co., and that if there was any future in the franchise, it would be with a new generation – hence why they brought in Hailee Steinfeld. Then Pitch Perfect 2 became a huge hit, grossing $300 million, and suddenly the studio wanted a third film with the original cast – and that’s just what we’re getting.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Now graduated from college and out in the real world where it takes more than a cappella to get by, the Bellas return in Pitch Perfect 3, the next chapter in the beloved series that has taken in more than $400 million at the global box office.

‘After the highs of winning the World Championships, the Bellas find themselves split apart and discovering there aren’t job prospects for making music with your mouth. But when they get the chance to reunite for an overseas USO tour, this group of awesome nerds will come together to make some music, and some questionable decisions, one last time.

‘Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Hana Mae Lee, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Chrissie Fit, Kelley Jakle, Shelley Regner, Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins all return and are joined by additions including John Lithgow and Ruby Rose. Pitch Perfect 3 is again produced by Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment and Max Handelman & Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions, and is directed by Trish Sie (Step Up All In).’

The film will be in cinemas on December 20th. [Read more…]

Anne Hathaway May Join Rebel Wilson In Female Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Remake

January 22, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last August, it was revealed that Rebel Wilson was attached to a gender-swapped remake of the 1998 Steve Martin and Michael Caine comedy. Now it’s been reported that they may have found the person to play opposite Rebel, as Anne Hathaway is in talks for the role according to THR.

In the original movie, Caine and Martin played con artists, one unsophisticated and one suave, who join forces on the French Riviera to take down a big target, before turning on one another with a bet that will see the loser having to leave town. The remake is apparently titled Nasty Women, with a script by Jac Schaeffer. The basic idea will stay the same, with the con artists being socially mismatched, but this time they’ll be teaming up to con a tech prodigy out of his money.

No director or release date has been announced as yet. Hathaway must enjoy the con artist world, as she’s currently shooting Ocean’s 8, which sees George Clooney and co. replaced by a group of women going off on a heist.

Rebel Wilson Up For Gender-Swapped Remake Of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

August 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rebel-wilsonInternet trolls may have viciously laid into the idea of gender-swapping Ghostbusters, but Hollywood seems to like the idea, with a Splash remake announced a couple of days ago with Channing Tatum in the Darryl Hannah role. That’s been joined by Rebel Wilson taking on one of the central roles in a do-over of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

THR reports that she’s play one of two con-women in the remake of the 1998 Steve Martin and Michael Caine comedy. The original saw the duo as con artists, one unsophisticated and one suave, who join forces on the French Riviera to take down a big target, before turning on one another with a bet that will see the loser having to leave town.

It’s not known who might join Wilson in the new version of the film. No director is set either, but it seems something Wilson is keen on, as she’s also set to produce.

How To Be Single Trailer – Rebel Wilson & Dakota Johnson learn how to be unattached

November 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

how-to-be-single-poster-slideSynopsis: ‘There’s a right way to be single, a wrong way to be single, and then…there’s Alice. And Robin. Lucy. Meg. Tom. David. New York City is full of lonely hearts seeking the right match, be it a love connection, a hook-up, or something in the middle. And somewhere between the teasing texts and one-night stands, what these unmarrieds all have in common is the need to learn how to be single in a world filled with ever-evolving definitions of love. Sleeping around in the city that never sleeps was never so much fun.

‘HOW TO BE SINGLE stars Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey), Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect), Damon Wayans, Jr. (Let’s Be Cops), Anders Holm (Bad Neighbours, The Intern), Alison Brie (Get Hard), Nicholas Braun (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Jake Lacy (HBO’s Girls), with Jason Mantzoukas (Bad Neighbours, TV’s The League) and Leslie Mann (This is 40).

‘Christian Ditter (Love, Rosie, The Crocodiles) directed the comedy from a screenplay by Abby Kohn & Marc Silverstein (The Vow, He’s Just Not That Into You) and Dana Fox (Couples Retreat, What Happens in Vegas), screen story by Kohn & Silverstein, based on the book by Liz Tucillo (TV’s Sex & the City, He’s Just Not That Into You). John Rickard and Fox are producing the film. Marcus Viscidi, Richard Brener, Michael Disco, Dave Neustadter, Michele Weiss, Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen are executive producers.’

Pitch Perfect 2 (DVD Review)

September 20, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, Skylar Astin
Director: Elizabeth Banks
Running Time: 110 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: September 21st 2015 (UK)

The Pitch Perfect movies are proof positive that despite many people arguments to the contrary, originality isn’t the key to an entertaining film. Indeed, both films are just about as clichéd as it’s possible to get story-wise, following tried and tested formulas for this sort of film. However, despite that – or actually arguably partly because of the oddly comforting nature of that – they are huge amounts of fun.

This time around things have moved on a few years and rather than being a freshman, Beca (Anna Kendrick) is now getting ready to graduate and thinking about the future. Her a cappella group, The Barden Bellas, are now three time national champions, until disaster strikes when ‘Fat’ Amy (Rebel Wilson) suffers a major wardrobe malfunction while performing for the President, which results in the group’s tour being cancelled and threatened with never being able to compete again. Anna Kendrick & Rebel Wilson Returning For Pitch Perfect 3 In 2017

June 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pitch-perfect-2-poster-slideIt seems to be the year for Universal underestimating the popularity of their movies, with Furious 7 and Jurassic World both massively outperforming expectations, and Pitch Perfect 2 also surprising, making $171 million in the US alone.

It certainly wasn’t expected, as while Universal had hoped to make a third Pitch Perfect movie, they’d already decided they’d have to do so without Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, with Hailee Steinfeld deliberately brought into the second movie so that she could lead a lowed budgeted Part 3. Indeed, the end of Pitch Perfect 2 seemed to suggest the original characters were moving on.

However due to the movie’s huge success, plans have changed and THR reports both Kendrick and Wilson will now be back for Pitch Perfect 3, which has been set for released on July 21st, 2017. Kay Cannon, who wrote the first two films, is also returning, but there’s no news on the plot.

New Pitch Perfect 2 Trailer – Anna Kendrick & co. make a song & dance about it

February 10, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pitch-perfect-2-poster2Things are getting patriotic and a lot of fun in the new trailer for Pitch Perfect 2, which suggests this may be just as entertaining as the first movie, which became a surprise hit in 2012.

The stakes are raised in the sequel with Anna Kendrick and co. heading off to the world a cappella championships – which seem far bigger and more rock ‘n’ roll that you might expect. It’s also great to see Rebel Wilson’s Fat Amy back in action, and it looks like she’ll be just as entertaining this time around.

Along with returning stars such as Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, Adam DeVine, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow and Elizabeth Banks, Hailee Steinfeld joins the ranks, with the actress said to have come on board in preparation with a possible Pitch Perfect 3.

The movie will be in cinemas May 15th. [Read more…]
