Elizabeth Banks Returning To Direct Pitch Perfect 3

Having produced Pitch Perfect, Elizabeth Banks proved she has a deft touch as a director with the sequel, scoring a huge hit and a lot of laughs. Now Variety has officially confirmed that she’ll be back for the third movie, Pitch Perfect 3.

While earlier plans had been to hand the franchise to Hailee Steinfeld and a new set of actors, the success of Pitch Perfect 2 has resulted in a rethink, and Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow are all now set to return, with Kay Cannon once more writing the script.

There’s no news on the plot, although presumably it will see the now graduated Barden Bellas finding an excuse to sing together once more.

Banks is also attached to helm Red Queen and a Charlie’s Angels, but Pitch Perfect 3 is likely to come first, as Universal has already set a summer 2017 release date.

The Pitch Perfect movies are proof positive that despite many people arguments to the contrary, originality isn’t the key to an entertaining film. Indeed, both films are just about as clichéd as it’s possible to get story-wise, following tried and tested formulas for this sort of film. However, despite that – or actually arguably partly because of the oddly comforting nature of that – they are huge amounts of fun.

This time around things have moved on a few years and rather than being a freshman, Beca (Anna Kendrick) is now getting ready to graduate and thinking about the future. Her a cappella group, The Barden Bellas, are now three time national champions, until disaster strikes when ‘Fat’ Amy (Rebel Wilson) suffers a major wardrobe malfunction while performing for the President, which results in the group’s tour being cancelled and threatened with never being able to compete again. Elizabeth Banks May Direct Charlie’s Angels Reboot

Many wondered whether Elizabeth Banks had bitten off more than she could chew when she picked Pitch Perfect 2 as her directorial debut. However she did a great job and the film was a big hit. Now she’s plotting her follow up, with THR reporting that she’s in talk to helm and produce a remake of Charlie’s Angels.

It may only be 12 years since the last time the last time the Angels were on the big screen, and four years since a failed TV reboot, but Sony seems to think it’s a good time for another go-around.

The original TV show debuted in 1976, with Jackson, Farrah Fawcett-Majors, and Jaclyn Smith as three women who decide to stop being cops so they can work for the enigmatic Charlie (who they only conversed with via telephone), at his private detective firm, the Townsend Agency.

It’s early days as no writer is attached as yet, but assuming it all pans out, Banks may be directing.

New Pitch Perfect 2 Trailer – Anna Kendrick & co. make a song & dance about it

Things are getting patriotic and a lot of fun in the new trailer for Pitch Perfect 2, which suggests this may be just as entertaining as the first movie, which became a surprise hit in 2012.

The stakes are raised in the sequel with Anna Kendrick and co. heading off to the world a cappella championships – which seem far bigger and more rock ‘n’ roll that you might expect. It’s also great to see Rebel Wilson’s Fat Amy back in action, and it looks like she’ll be just as entertaining this time around.

Along with returning stars such as Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, Adam DeVine, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow and Elizabeth Banks, Hailee Steinfeld joins the ranks, with the actress said to have come on board in preparation with a possible Pitch Perfect 3.

Nobody expected Pitch Perfect to become the success it was, but as soon as it hit box office success Universal realised they had real potential so they put a sequel into the works and have even built into that the ability to continue the franchise after that with a new cast.

Pitch Perfect 2 is due to arrive next May, and now the first poster for the movie has arrived, which you can see below, along with Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow, which is below.

Elizabeth Banks, Anna Camp, Skylar Astin, Ben Platt and Adam DeVine also reprise their roles from Pitch Perfect, with Hailee Steinfeld coming on board as a new character who’s being set up as a potential lead for future sequels.

Skylar Astin & Ben Platt Are Coming Back For Pitch Perfect 2

For a while now we’ve known that nearly all the Pitch Perfect ladies would return for the sequels, but while Skylar Astin has suggested he’d return, it’s only now that he’s signed on to reprise his role as Jesse Pitch Perfect 2, according to Deadline.

He’s not the only one either, as Ben Platt – who plays Benji – has tweeted a picture from the set showing he’s back too. And who’s he got with him? Well, Skylar Astin of course. You can see that pic below.

Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Elizabeth Banks, Anna Camp and Adam DeVine reprise their roles from Pitch Perfect, with Hailee Steinfeld coming on board as a new character who’s being set up as a potential lead for future sequels.

And the reason they’ll need a new lead is that it’s believed this film will follow Kendrick and Wilson’s characters through to their graduation.

Elizabeth Banks is directing from a script by Kay Cannon. Pitch Perfect 2 is due out May 2015.

Rebel Wilson Gives Us A Fresh Look At Anna Kendrick & The Pitch Perfect 2 Ladies

It seems Rebel Wilson is keen to keep us up to date with happening with Pitch Perfect 2 as a couple of weeks ago she released a pic of the first day of rehearsals, and now we get a new look at the Barden Bellas.

The first pic was missing one key fixture – Anna Kendrick – but she lined up for this one, along with the likes of Brittany Snow, Elizabeth Banks, Ester Dean, Kelley Jakle, Alexis Knapp, Chrissie Fit, Hana Mae Lee and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld.

Plot details are still a little thin on the ground, but its believed the film will follow Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick’s Beca and Fat Amy through to their university graduation. Steinfeld is playing a new character who could become the lead is a third Pitch Perfect movie is ever made.

Elizabeth Banks is directing, with a May 2015 release date set.

Hailee Steinfeld Joins Anna Kendrick & Rebel Wilson In Pitch Perfect 2

A few days ago the ladies of Pitch Perfect 2 posed for a picture marking the first day of rehearsals. However at the time, casting-wise we’d only heard that nearly all the cast of the first film would be back for the follow-up.

However now Variety reports there’s a newbie, as Hailee Steinfeld (Rome & Juliet, True Grit) has signed up for the film. Universal confirmed that shortly afterwards with the picture featured to the right.

Plot details are still thin on the ground, but its believed the film will follow Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick’s Beca and Fat Amy through to their university graduation. If that’s true it would suggest they wouldn’t be around for a potential third movie, but Universal has reportedly brought in Steinfeld with an eye to her taking over the franchise if Pitch Perfect 2 does as well as the first film.

Filming kicks off soon with Elizabeth Banks directing. A May 2015 release date has already been set.

Rebel Wilson & Elizabeth Banks Are Back In The First Pitch Perfect 2 Cast Photo

pitch-perfect-2-cast-photo The ladies of Pitch Perfect are back, warming up their vocal chords and in rehearsals for Pitch Perfect 2. To prove it Rebel Wilson has Tweeted a photo of many of the cast members alongside director Elizabeth Banks.

Hana Mae Lee, Rebel Wilson, Elizabeth Banks, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Brittany Snow and Kelley Jakle are all featured, gathered together for the first day of Pitch Perfect 2 a cappella boot camp.

As you may have noticed there’s no Anna Kendrick, but don’t panic as she will indeed be back as Becca.

At the moment they’re just rehearsing, with the shoot scheduled to start very soon. Pitch Perfect 2 follows Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick’s Beca and Fat Amy through to their university graduation. Elizabeth Banks is directing with a May 2015 release set.
