Kidnapping Mr. Heineken Trailer – Sam Worthington & Jim Sturgess take Anthony Hopkins hostage

January 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kidnapping-Mr.-Heineken-slideUnfortunately Rutger Hauer is not enough. Back in 2011 he starred in the Dutch movie The Heineken Kidnapping, but now the same true story is getting an English-language makeover and Rutger has been replaced by Anthony Hopkins.

Kidnapping Mr. Heineken tells the tale of Freddy Heineken, lager magnate and a man not short of spare change. In 1983 he was abducted and held in a grotty cell for 21 days before his kidnapper’s ransom demands were met – the biggest ransom ever for a single person. Upon being released, a traumatised Heineken used his unlimited wealth to help the police track down his abductors and bring them to justice.

Sam Worthington, Jim Sturgess, Ryan Kwanten, Mark van Eeuwen and Thomas Cocquerel also star as those who hatch the kidnapping plot. Daniel Alfredson (who helmed two of the original Millennium Trilogy films) directs.

Sam Worthington, Jim Sturgess & Ryan Kwanten Up For Freddy Heineken

Sam Worthington in Man On A Ledge

Sam Worthington

Not too long ago Rutger Hauer starred in a movie about the kidnapping of Freddy Heineken. Now Hollywood is taking on the subject, according to Variety, with Sam Worthington, Jim Sturgess, Ryan Kwanten and Anthony Hopkins have signed on to star.

Called Kidnapping Freddy Heineken, the film is about the true story of Dutch beer mogul Alfred “Freddy” Heineken (Hopkins), who was kidnapped along with his driver Ab Doderer in 1983. They were both released after the ransom of a whopping 35 Dutch guilders was paid, which is the equivalent of $50 million today. The abductors were eventually caught and prosecuted. It isn’t known what characters Worthington, Kwanten and Sturgess will play, although there’s a good chance they’ll be kidnapper. Tom Cocquerel and Mark van Eeuwen are also starring in unspecified roles.

Daniel Alfredson (The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest) is directing from a script by William Brookfield (Rough Magic). Shooting is scheduled to begin later this month in Belgium, before shooting shifts to Amsterdam and New Orleans.

Ryan Kwanten & Sullivan Stapleton Will Cut Snake In An Aussie Thriller

December 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The title Cut Snake might sounds like it’ll be about circumcision, but it’s actually an Aussie thriller that’s just added homegrown sons Ryan Kwanten and Sullivan Stapleton to its cast, according to Deadline.

Written by Australian TV writer Blake Ayshford, Cut Snake looks at a real-life tragedy that happened in Brisbane in 1973. A heist gone wrong led to the Whiskey Au Go Go nightclub getting torched, resulting in the deaths of 15 people. Just released from prison, Stapleton’s character convinces Kwanten’s, who is on the verge of getting married, to help him out on this ill-fated robbery. Rachael Taylor is attached to play Kwanten’s fiancee. Tony Ayres will direct.

Both Kwanten and Stapleton have found success outside their home country with Ryan starring in True Blood, while Sullivan made a splash in Animal Kingdom and will be seen soon in Ruben Fleischer’s much anticipated Gangster Squad.

Griff The Invisible (DVD)

April 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ryan Kwanten, Maeve Dermody, Marshall Napier, Patrick Bramall
Director: Leon Ford
Running Time: 92 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: April 16th, 2012

Superheroes in the real world are quite popular at the moment, with Griff The Invisible being Australia’s entry. True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten stars as Griff, a meek, quiet man trapped in a dull office job by day, but by night he hits the streets as a costumed hero.

Griff is fascinated by the possibility of becoming invisible (literally rather than just metaphorically, which is how he is for most of his life), and is hard at work on a suit he hopes will make him completely see-through. [Read more…]
