Detective Pikachu Trailer – Pokemon is going live action with Ryan Reynolds

November 12, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When it was announced Hollywood was working on a live-action film called Detective Pikachu, it sounded like a joke. Indeed, most people assume it was the sort of film that would quietly die in development and everyone involved would later wonder what on earth they were thinking about. However, then it got a massive shot in the arm when Ryan Reynolds signed up to be the voice of Pikachu.

Now the first trailer has arrived and dare we say it, it actually looks quite fun! Well, it looks utterly bizarre, but also fun, although some purists may not appreciate Pikachu’s newfound verbosity and wisecracking skills.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The first-ever live-action Pokémon adventure, POKÉMON Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, The Croods, Green Lantern) as Pikachu, the iconic face of the global Pokémon phenomenon – one of the world’s most popular, multi-generation entertainment properties and the most successful media franchise of all time. The world of Pokémon comes to life!

‘Fans everywhere can now experience Pikachu on the big screen as never before, as Detective Pikachu, a Pokémon like no other. The film also showcases a wide array of beloved Pokémon characters, each with its own unique abilities and personality.

‘The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City – a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.’

The film is due in cinemas May 2019. Take a look at the first trailer and poster below. [Read more…]

While there was a lot of trepidation over whether Hollywood was capable of making a Deadpool movie that captured the sardonic spirit of a character that lives in the X-Men world but is very different to the others. However, the resulting film was a critical and commercial hit, ensuring a sequel was quickly put into the works.

A new trailer for Deadpool 2 is now here, which you can take a look at below.

Deadpool 2 Trailer – Meet Josh Brolin’s Cable via Ryan Reynolds’ wisecracking antihero

February 7, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

By know we should expect any promo for a Deadpool movie to break the fourth wall, and make fun of the whole idea of superhero movies. The new trailer for Deadpool 2 doesn’t disappoint on that score, even breaking into a toy version of typical action film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfil his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Ryan Reynolds Will Be Detective Pikachu For A Live-Action Pokémon Movie

December 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For over a year now there’s been a movie in the works that many people thought would never see the light of day – a live-action Pokemon movie bizarrely titled, Detective Pikachu. However, it’s moving ahead with Goosebumps director Rob Letterman at the helm, and The Get Down’s Justice Smith and Big Little Lies‘ Kathryn Newton already cast.

Now they’ve been joined by Ryan Reynolds, who will voice Detective Pikachu himself, and may also motion-capture the role. Not much is known about the plot, although THR reports that ‘The story is kicked into gear when Smith’s character’s father is kidnapped, forcing the teen to team up with Pikachu in order to find him. Newton will play a sassy journalist who helps them on their quest.’

It’s a bit of a surprise Reynolds is onboard as traditionally Pikachu has only been able to repeat its own name (and usually in a female Japanese voice), so the sudden need for the more verbose, and male, Canadian actor suggests changes are afoot. Dedicated Pokemon fans probably won’t like that, considering the controversy that arose when Pikachu spoke a few words of English in the latest animated film, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, which caused a mini-uproar.

The film is due to start shooting in mid-January in the UK.

Life Red Band Trailer – Aliens really don’t like Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal

March 14, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Aliens really need to learn how to chill out. While occasionally we find a nice one like ET, most of the time when humanity makes contact with alien life on screen, it all very quickly goes bad. That’s happening again in Life, where Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal are stuck in space with something alien and icky that wants to kill them. Previous promos for the movie have hidden the extraterrestrial away, but this red band trailer gives us some glimpses of monster.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.’

The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Ryan Reynolds. It’ll be in cinemas later this month. [Read more…]

Deadpool 2 Gets Zazie Beetz As Domino

March 11, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Deadpool 2 will be introducing us to some more new mutants we haven’t seen on the big screen before, and one who’ll be taking a major role is Domino, the expert marksman whose abilities allow her to alter the laws of probability, allowing her to control things such as bullets that are in her field of vision. While a few name have been rumoured for the role, it’s now been revealed that Zazie Beetz will take on the role.

Beetz is best known for starring in Donald Glover’s Atlanta, but this will be by far her highest profile film role so far. Ryan Reynolds revealed the news via the Tweet you can see below.

Now much has been announced about the plot, but it is known that Domino will be a major part of the movie, teaming up with Deadpool, who isn’t likely to want to do much teaming. Some have suggested that bringing Dominio in means Fox is hoping to move things towards an X-Force movie, the superhero team that Domino and sometimes Deadpool is a part of.

Deadpool 2 is expected in cinemas in 2018.

Deadpool 2 Teaser Short- The Merc With A Mouth is back to tease us before his next adventure

March 4, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although Logan and Deadpool seem like pretty much the polar opposites of the X-Men universe. Alongside Wolverine adventure Logan in cinemas this weekend comes a specially filmed teaser for Deadpool 2, letting us know the character will be back soon.

Now that teaser has arrived on the web, showing us that while directing duties may be moving from Tim Miller to John Wick co-director David Leitch, the tone and sardonic humour will be very much intact. The nearly four-minute teaser is actually more like a short film, with Deadpool showing that sometimes the superhero cliches – in this case changing from street clothes into your hero outfit – are easier said than done. And yes, there’s plenty of fourth wall breaking, not least that Logan is playing in a cinema in the background.

Take a look at the new vid below, which even finds time for a Stan Lee cameo and some Ryan Reynolds butt pushed up against glass! Deadpool 2 is due out March 2018. [Read more…]
