Wentworth Miller & Russell Tovey Share A Superhero Kiss On Arrow-verse Crossover Event

November 29, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Over the weekend we posted the first images of Russell Tovey as the Arrow-verse’ first live-action, openly gay hero, The Ray. While many people were excited just to have Tovey show up for a major crossover event between The Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash and Legends Of Tomorrow, there was an extra treat in store.

One scene in ‘Crisis On Earth X’, saw Tovey and Wentworth Miller sharing a smooch! Miller has been part of the Arrow-verse for several years as villain turned reluctant hero Captain Cold (aka Leonard Snart). Tovey’s Ray though comes from an alternate universe in which the Nazis won the Second World War, and it turns out that in that world, a version of Snart, known there as Citizen Cold, is his lover.

The result is something it’s difficult to imagine ever happening even 10 years ago – two openly gay actors, playing superheroes on a major TV show, sharing a loving kiss! Take a look at a gif of the moment below.

The crossover event will air on Sky 1 in the UK next week. [Read more…]

Legends Of Tomorrow – Season 1 (Blu-ray Review)

September 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Arthur Darvill, Victor Garber, Brandon Routh, Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell
Director: Various
Running Time: 681 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 29th 2016 (UK)

While Marvel has had great success in cinema but struggled more on TV, it’s generally been the other way around for DC. Arrow was soon joined by The Flash, then came Supergirl, online animated series and now Legends Of Tomorrow, with more shows planned. Legends certainly came with a lot of promise when it was first announced – a sort-of time-travelling equivalent of The Avengers – filled with lesser-known heroes (and villains), most of whom had been introduced in other DC shows.

Arthur Darvill plays Rip Hunter, who’s had a promotion since playing luckless companion Rory in Doctor Who, as he’s now a Time Master (not Lord), with his own equivalent of the TARDIS. Hunter comes from a future that has been taken over by the evil Vandal Savage, a 4,000-year-old immortal. Although he’s been banned from meddling in the past, Rip goes rogue, commandeering a time ship and heading to the 21st Century to put together a band of heroes, who will travel through time with him, trying to find Savage at various points in history so they can destroy him. The Disappointments Room Trailer – Kate Beckinsale stars in the Wentworth Miller written horror

August 27, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Disappointments-Room-beckinsaleWe should have already seen The Disappointments Room by now, but the release of the movie got delayed when its production company, Relativity, went into bankruptcy. Now though the company is back up and running, and a US release is planned for next month.

The horror was written by Wentworth Miller. While best known as the star of the likes of Prison Break and Legends Of Tomorrow, he’s had a lot of interest in his script, including Park Chan-Wook taking on his screenplay for 2013’s Stoker.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘The psychological thriller follows a woman (Kate Beckinsale) who moves into a new house with her 5-year-old son only to discover a secret room within the attic where unimaginable horrors are accidentally unlocked.’ Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Wentworth Miller Admits Squirming Watching Gay Characters On TV As A Young Man

November 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Wentworth-MillerMost people agree that gay representation on TV is a good thing, but when it was far rarer than it is today, there were issues. For many straight people their entire knowledge of gay people was what they’d seen on television, creating a somewhat warped perception. It was something many gay people themselves were uneasy with – pleased to see gay characters but concerned that only a small part of the LGBT experience was being shown.

Now Wentworth Miller has being talking about that with The Backlot, relating his experience watching Melrose Place and its gay character, Matt Fielding, the sole non-straight person in an apartment full of the young and the beautiful.

Miler says, “Obviously it’s important for folks in the LGBT community – kids especially – to see themselves reflected onscreen. I can remember watching Melrose Place in college and paying special attention to the Matt Fielding character. Did that help ease the pain of coming out? No. Did I squirm a little wondering if my friends who were watching the show with me were connecting me to Matt? Yes.

“I also knew the actor (Doug Savant) was straight. But I did appreciate seeing some evidence that Hollywood was willing to tell Matt’s story. It wasn’t my story, but I felt a connection. Some representation. We’ve come a long way since then and I’m sure we’ll go a long way still.”

Miller recently took a recurring role on The Flash and was first seen in Episode 4, which aired in the US a couple of days ago, and will next pop up in Episode 10.

First Pics Of Wentworth Miller As Captain Cold In The Flash Released

October 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wentworth-miller-flash-pic1A couple of months ago it was announced that out actor Wentworth Miller would be turning villainous as Captain Cold in TV’s new hit series The Flash. Now the first images of the actor in the show has been released.

Miller is playing Leonard Snart, who invents a powerful ray gun that freezes his enemies. Captain Cold will be a recurring character, which raises the possibility that as in the comics he will put together a group of bad guys known as The Rogues. That’s particularly likely as the title of the first episode Miller appears in is called ‘Going Rogue’ (it’s the fourth episode in case you were wondering).

There’s also going to be a bit of a Prison Break reunion, as the 10th episode features both Captain Cold and his villainous colleague, Heat Wave, who will be played by Dominic Purcell.

Take a look at the pics above and below, along with a Flash trailer featuring Wentworth. [Read more…]

Wentworth Miller Says He Was ‘Feeding A Fantasy’ Before He Came Out As Gay

July 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Wentworth-MillerWentworth Miller has been opening up about his decision to come out as a gay man to Details magazine. He says that after revealing his sexuality, “I feel more fully expressed. After Prison Break, I came to grips with the fact that my public persona was in misalignment with how I actually felt. I was out to a handful of people in my twenties, and once I hit 30, I was out to family and friends. But professionally, I was feeding a fantasy. I created this air of ‘We don’t address that thing.'”

When he did come out, there was criticism in some quarters (as there has been recently regarding Ian Thorpe) about the fact that in the past he had vehemently denied he was gay. However he says that at the time, “My face was on billboards, and I thought it was my job to act a certain way. But I think audiences knew to a certain degree.”

Miller also takes the chance to talk about his struggles with serious depression, saying, “I’m part of a group called the ManKind Project. It’s a circle of men I sit in with every week that’s a safe sounding board for whatever’s up for me: good, bad, ugly, really ugly. We know how to respond to someone coming out now—we’ve had that training—but admit you’re sad or that you’ve thought about suicide and people don’t know what to do. With sadness, particularly with men, that conversation is unfamiliar.”

Wentworth Miller Talks About His Suicide Attempts While Struggling With His Sexuality

September 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Wentworth-MillerStatistics show that young gay people are disproportionately likely to attempt suicide. Now actor Wentworth Miller has been talking about his personal experience of trying to take his life as he struggled with being in the closet.

He opened up at the Human Rights Campaign dinner in Seattle on Saturday, just a few weeks after he publicly came out.

“The first time I tried to kill myself I was 15,” he said. “I waited until my family went away for the weekend and I was alone in the house and I swallowed a bottle of pills. I don’t remember what happened over the next couple of days, but I’m pretty sure come Monday morning I was on the bus back to school pretending everything was fine.”

He adds, “Growing up I was a target. Speaking the right way, standing the right way, holding your wrist the right way. Every day was a test and there was a thousand ways to fail. A thousand ways to portray yourself to not live up to someone else’s standards of what was accepted.”

He also touched on why he didn’t come out earlier – and even categorically denied he was gay a few years ago – as he was worried it would affect his career. “I had multiple opportunities to speak my truth, which was that I was gay,” he said. “But I chose not to. I was out in private, to family and friends … but professionally, publicly, I was not.”

You can take a look at video of Miller’s speech below.

Matthew Bomer Says He’s ‘Really Proud’ Of Wentworth Miller For The Way He Came Out

August 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matt-bomer-white-collarThere’s been plenty of reaction to Wentworth Miller coming out while making a statement against Russia anti-gay laws, and one of those who’s decided to congratulate him is White Collar and Magic Mike star Matthew Bomer.

Bomer chatted with E! at New York’s Heineken U.S. Open kickoff, who said of Wentworth, “Wow, I think its really bold and incredibly classy how he came out and did it. I am really proud of him. Its very reflective of his amazing character.”

Rather than concentrating on Russia, Bomer took the opportunity reflect on the progress being made on gay rights in the US, with new laws being passed giving gay people more equality in various parts of the US. He says, “I hope all these laws continue to pass but we still have a long way to go.”

Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller Officially Comes Out In Protest At Russia’s Anti-Gay Laws

August 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

wentworth-millerFor years there has been speculation around the sexuality of Prison Break star Wentworth Miller. Now he’s decided to put those rumours to rest by coming out as gay and doing so as part of a statement about Russia’s anti-gay laws.

The actor, who recently turned screenwriter with the movie Stoker, had been invited to the St. Petersburg International Film Festival, however he felt the need to decline the invitation, sending a letter to the organisers telling them why.

It reads: Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes.

However, as a gay man, I must decline.

I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly.

Perhaps, when and if circumstances improve, I’ll be free to make a different choice.

St. Petersburg is the perhaps the centre of the increasingly homophobic laws in Russia, as it was one of the first cities to clamp down on so-called ‘gay propaganda’, which has since been taken up and copied in national laws.

GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz noted in a statement, “Wentworth’s bold show of support sends a powerful message to LGBT Russians, who are facing extreme violence and persecution: you are not alone. As people from across the globe continue to speak out against Russia’s horrific law, more celebrities and corporations should follow his courageous lead in openly condemning Russia’s anti-LGBT law.”

Miller’s sexuality has been an open secret in Hollywood for several years and he has been active with several pro-gay organisations, although he has generally side-stepped the question in interviews (and back in 2006 issued flat-out denials) – until now, that is. He will next be seen in the film The Loft, and also has several scripts in development, including one based on Vlad The Impaler, who was immortalised as Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Let’s hope we see much more of him soon.
