First They Killed My Father Trailer – Take a look at Angelina Jolie’s Cambodian genocide drama

August 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been a little controversy in the last week or two about whether Angelina Jolie stepped over the line during the audition process for her new movie, First They Killed My Father, and whether the ‘games’ she played with the children pushed things to far with potentially vulnerable people. However, the movie itself seems like a genuinely sincere effort to shine a light on an often overlooked chapter in modern world history.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Netflix original film First They Killed My Father will launch on Friday, September 15 in theatres and globally on Netflix. Directed by Angelina Jolie, First They Killed My Father is the adaptation of Cambodian author and human rights activist Loung Ung’s gripping memoir of surviving the deadly Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1978. The story is told through her eyes, from the age of five, when the Khmer Rouge came to power, to nine years old. The film depicts the indomitable spirit and devotion of Loung and her family as they struggle to stay together during the Khmer Rouge years.’

Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

New By The Sea Trailer – Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie head for France

November 2, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

by-the-sea-pic4-slideBy The Sea is a bit of family affair, with Angelina Jolie directing and starring, with hubby Brad Pitt also onboard.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘By the Sea follows an American writer named Roland (Pitt) and his wife, Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in 1970s France, their marriage in apparent crisis. As they spend time with fellow travelers, including young newlyweds Lea (Laurent) and François (Poupaud), and village locals Michel (Arestrup) and Patrice (Bohringer), the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.

‘In its style, and its treatment of themes of the human experience, By the Sea is inspired by European cinema and theater of the ’60s and ’70s.’

It’ll be in cinemas December 11th.

By The Sea Trailer – Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt are unhappily married

August 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

by-the-sea-slideIt’s a real family affair, with Angelina Jolie writing, directing and starring in By The Sea, with Brad Pitt playing her husband.

The movie is set in France during the mid-1970s, with Jolie as former dancer Vanessa, and Pitt as her husband Roland, an American writer. As they travel the country together, they seem to be growing apart, but when they linger in one quiet, seaside town they begin to draw close to some of its more vibrant inhabitants, such as a local bar/café owner (War Horse’s Niels Arestrup) and hotel owner (Richard Bohringer).’

It’s not exactly the most scintillating of set-ups, but there is a certain level of intrigue to the trailer, suggesting it may have enough mood, class and style to make it worth a watch. The film’s due for release later this year. [Read more…]

Brad Pitt Reteaming With Angelina Jolie For Africa

January 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

brad-pittIt appears the Pitt-Jolies and on a bit of a world tour, as having recently spent time in Europe with Angelina directing and co-starring alongside hubby Brad for the upcoming By The Sea, they’re now likely to head together to the Dark Continent as Pitt is in talks to star in Jolie’s Africa, according to TheWrap.

Brad would be a good fit for the lead role of real-life figure Richard Leakey, who’s perhaps best known internationally for his work as an paleoanthropologist, investigating and finding fossils from some of the earliest human ancestors. However the film is more interested in his work helping to rein in elephant and rhino poaching, which was threatening to ensure the animals’ extinction in only a few years. Eric Roth (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Forrest Gump, The Insider) has come up with the script.

Jolie previously commented, “I’ve felt a deep connection to Africa and its culture for much of my life, and was taken with Eric’s beautiful script about a man drawn into the violent conflict with elephant poachers who emerged with a deeper understanding of man’s footprint and a profound sense of responsibility for the world around him.”

Although nothing is set in stone, it appears they’re hoping to shoot Africa this summer.

New Unbroken Trailer – Fresh look at Jack O’Connell in Angelina Jolie’s movie

October 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

unbroken-slideThere’s a lot of interest in Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken, with many suggesting it could turn her into a major force behind the camera and could even snag her a Best Director Oscar nom. Now a new trailer has arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award® winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces Unbroken, an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

‘Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”) enormously popular book, Unbroken brings to the big screen Zamperini’s unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.

‘Starring alongside O’Connell are Domhnall Gleeson and Finn Wittrock as Phil and Mac—the airmen with whom Zamperini endured perilous weeks adrift in the open Pacific—Garrett Hedlund and John Magaro as fellow POWs who find an unexpected camaraderie during their internment, Alex Russell as Zamperini’s brother, Pete, and in his English-language feature debut, Japanese actor Miyavi as the brutal camp guard known only to the men as “The Bird.”’

It’s due in UK cinemas at Christmas. [Read more…]

Angelina Jolie To Helm Elephant Poaching Movie Africa

September 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Angelina-JolieAngelina Jolie is certainly taking her directing career seriously. She’s already got Unbroken being released later this year, is currently on set helming By The Sea (which she also wrote) and now Deadline reports that she’s attached to direct Africa.

The movie will follow Richard Leakey, who’s perhaps best known internationally for his work as an paleoanthropologist, investigating and finding fossils from some of the earliest human ancestors. However the film is more interested in his work helping to rein in elephant and rhino poaching, which was threatening to ensure the animals’ extinction in only a few years.

Eric Roth (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Forrest Gump, The Insider) has come up with the script.

Jolie comments, “I’ve felt a deep connection to Africa and its culture for much of my life, and was taken with Eric’s beautiful script about a man drawn into the violent conflict with elephant poachers who emerged with a deeper understanding of man’s footprint and a profound sense of responsibility for the world around him.”

There’s no info on when the movie might shoot.

Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie Are Unhappily Married In First By The Sea Pics

September 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

by-the-sea-pic1Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt may be newlyweds, but it doesn’t look like their honeymoon period will be reflected in the new movie they’re making together, By The Sea. That’s if these first pics are anything to go by.

EW doesn’t just have the pics either, as they’re also offering the first story details for the movie. They says the film is, ‘Set in France during the mid-1970s, Jolie plays Vanessa, a former dancer, and Pitt is her husband Roland, an American writer. As they travel the country together, they seem to be growing apart, but when they linger in one quiet, seaside town they begin to draw close to some of its more vibrant inhabitants, such as a local bar/café (War Horse and War Horse’s Niels Arestrup) and hotel owner (Richard Bohringer, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover).’

Jolie isn’t just starring in the movie, as she’s also directing and wrote the script. She comments, “I chose to set By the Sea in the 1970s, not only because it is a colorful and alluring era, but because it removes many of the distractions of contemporary life and allows the focus to remain squarely on the emotions that the characters experience in their journey.”

The movie continues to shoot until November, with a 2015 release expected.

Unbroken Trailer – Director Angelina Jolie delves into the life of Louie Zamperini

July 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

unbroken-slideThere’s been a lot of interest in Angelina Jolie’s second directorial outing, Unbroken. Last week came the sad news that the subject of the film, Louie Zamperini, had died. Now we can get a good taste of the film about him, as a full trailer has been released.

‘Director Jolie began shooting some of the most dramatic and challenging scenes on Wednesday, October 16, on location far out at sea in Moreton Bay, Australia, with Zamperini (O’Connell) and his fellow airmen—Phil (Domhnall Gleeson) and Mac (Finn Wittrock)—having impossibly survived being adrift in the open Pacific for several weeks.

‘Working with cameras on a floating rig in choppy waters and braving the elements, with actors dieting for months to appear as depleted as their characters, Jolie completed a successful first day of a location shoot that promises to be rigorous and uniquely challenging.

‘Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”) enormously popular book, Unbroken brings to the big screen Zamperini’s unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit. Starring alongside O’Connell, Gleeson and Wittrock are Garrett Hedlund and John Magaro as fellow POWs who find an unexpected camaraderie during their internment, Alex Russell as Zamperini’s brother, Pete, and in his English-language feature debut, Japanese actor Miyavi as the brutal camp guard known only to the men as “The Bird.”’

The film will hit cinemas in December. [Read more…]

First Footage From Unbroken – Take a look at Jack O’Connell in Angelina Jolie’s directorial effort

February 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

This year Angelina Jolie is going blockbuster as an actress with Maleficent and also making a bid for mainstream directorial success (and perhaps and Oscar bid) with Unbroken, her movie about the incredible true story of Louis Zamperini.

With the Winter Olympics on and Zamperini being a 1936 Olympian, the studio has decided it’s a good time for a special trailer, featuring narration by Tom Brokaw and vintage footage of Zamperini cut into the first footage from Jolie’s film along with a recent interview with Louis.

Jack O’Connell will play Zamperini in Unbroken, a former Olympic track star whose Air Force plane went down in the Pacific Ocean in World War II. He managed to survive for 47 days on a life raft in the midst of shark attacks and enemy fire, before he washed up on a Japanese island where he was taken prisoner for more than two years. Gerrett Hedlund is portraying fellow P.O.W. Commander John Fitzgerald.

It’s due out at Christmas. [Read more…]
