David Green Takes Over Dwayne Johnson’s Lore From Barry Sonnenfeld

August 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lore-graphic-novel-coverA few months ago, Barry Sonnenfeld signed up to direct Lore, which would have marked his first movie in 15 years that wasn’t a Men In Black flick. However now he’s out and THR reports that he’s been replaced by up and comer David Green on the Dwayne Johnson film.

Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott are writing the screenplay, adapted from the graphic novel by Ashley Wood and T.P. Louise. The story is set in a world where a secret society of Shepherds guard against creatures from folklore that actually exist. When the chain of command is broken, a young hero must do whatever it takes.

Green directed the FEARnet series Zombie Roadkill in 2010 and his first feature, Echo, is due out next year. So this is a big step up for him, so hopefully he’ll do well with the current vogue for fairytales. There’s no news on exactly when Lore might shoot.

Dwayne Johnson’s Lore Gets Director Barry Sonnenfeld

September 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the last 15 years, Barry Sonnenfeld hasn’t had much luck outside the Men In Black franchise, but he’s hoping that will change as the director Barry Sonnenfeld is now in talks to take the helm on Warner Bros.’ fantasy adaptation Lore, according to Deadline.

Dwayne Johnson signed up to star in April, with Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott writing the screenplay, adapted from the graphic novel by Ashley Wood and T.P. Louise. The story is set in a world where a secret society of Shepherds guard against creatures from folklore that actually exist. When the chain of command is broken, a young hero must do whatever it takes to stop these beasts.

Barry Sonnenfeld last directed this past summer’s Men in Black 3, which took in over $620 million worldwide. It isn’t known when Lore might shoot.

Barry Sonnenfeld Directing The Metal Men

June 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Between Men In Black II and III, Barry Sonnenfeld didn’t really direct much of note (unless you count RV: Runaway Vacation), but returning to the alien franchise has given his career a boost, and now Vulture reports he may direct an adaptation of the DC Comics title The Metal Men.

The comics are about William Magnus, an artificial intelligence expert who creates six different cyborgs, each made of a different metal on the periodic table. Gold is the leader and can stretch his form in an infinite number of ways. Iron is the muscle of the group, and Lead protects the group from radiation. Mercury can melt and slide into the tiniest of spaces, Platinum, the only female, could stretch or flatten her form, and Tin is the insecure cyborg.

At least those are the original incarnations, as they’ve been rebooted several times over the years, so the film version could chance things dramatically, especially as it’s not a desperately beloved property. The project doesn’t have a screenwriter attached yet, and is still in the very early stages of development. Expect this one to stay in development for a while, as it’s going to be tough turning it into a film that works.

Men In Black III (Cinema)

May 22, 2012 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Jermaine Clement, Emma Thompson
Director: Barry Sonnenfeld
Running Time: 105 mins
Certificate: PG
Release Date: May 25th, 2012

It has been 10 years since we last heard from the Men In Black. The successful film series has grossed over $1 billion worldwide at the box office, not to mention having vast DVD sales. Has the world forgotten MIB? Is it still relevant today when action/alien films are ten-a-penny? Well, this is a welcome return to the franchise – it delivers nothing new but fits like a comfortable pair of slippers and entertains nonetheless.

The film, like the previous two, is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, and there is no need to introduce the familiar characters, although there are a few new ones to add into the mix. The plot starts off with Nicole Scherzinger helping free Boris the Animal (Jermaine Clement) from prison – this really is a rather pointless cameo in her movie debut, where she does nothing more than walk around in a rubber outfit holding a cake. First Men In Black III Clips Arrive

May 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Can Men In Black III recapture the magic of the first two movies? Sony is definitely hoping so, with a time-travelling tale that see Will Smith’s Agent K heading back to the late 60s to save the life of Agent J (Tommy Lee Jones, but played by Josh Brolin as a young man), after the timeline is altered and J has been killed in the past. It’s out May 25th, but now the first clips from the movie have arrived, so take a look at the below.

Listen To Pitbull’s Men In Black 3 Theme Song

March 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The theme tune for Men In Black 3 has popped up online and rather neatly, you can have a listen right here. It’s not a patch on Will Smith’s tune from the first film, but Cuban-American rapper Pitbull’s song isn’t bad at all. In Men In Black 3, something has changed time so that Jones’ Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) died in 1969, and Will Smith’s Agent J has to go back in time and sort it out. It hits cinemas May 25th.

New Men In Black III Trailer

March 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

May I just say that Josh Brolin looks scarily like a young version of Tommy Lee Jones in this Men In Black III trailer, to the point where you wonder if they’ve used CGI to increase the similarity. It’s a bit eerie. The first trailer for MiB3 wasn’t exactly thrilling, but now they’ve finished a lot more footage, ensuring this looks a lot more like the alien managing fun of the first two movies. In this one something has changed time so that Jones’ Agent K died in 1969, and Will Smith’s Agent J has to go back in time and sort it out. It hits cinemas May 25th.

First Men In Black 3 Trailer – The alien monitoring agents are back!

December 12, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Men In Black are back and coming to cinemas with their third adventure on May 25th, 2012. To try and get people excited, the first trailer is here, although as it’s still pretty early, it’s more about reigniting the franchise than telling us about the film itself. However it does let us know that somehow Kay (Tommy Lee Jones) has been dead for 40 years and the only way to sort that out is to get Will Smith to travel back to 1969. The film had troubles during shooting, with half of it having to be delayed while they rewrote the script for the 60s section. Hopefully they sorted the problems out and it’ll be a welcom return for the alien monitoring agents.

And doesn’t Josh Brolin look uncannily like a young Tommy Lee Jones? Don’t believe us? Well watch the trailer.

Official Men In Black 3 Posters Arrive

November 30, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

The Men In Black are back next summer, on May 25th to be exact, and the hype machine has started to roll with Sony releasing the first two posters for the Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones movie (via Coming Soon). If you look closely towards the bottom, you’ll see there’s a link to a website, www.TheMenInBlackAreReal.com.

The takes you to a viral Facebook account, supposedly set up by somebody called ‘BugEyes126’, who left the following message: “I’ve uncovered that there’s these Men in Black suits who monitor and police alien activity on earth. Up until now no one believes me, so I’m on a mission to prove that they’re real and that’s why I started this Facebook page. More soon.”
