New Legend UK Trailer – Tom Hardy turns bisexual as both of the Kray Twins

July 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

legend-poster-slideBack in 1990 Spandau Ballet stars Martin and Gary Kemp took on the roles of the infamous Kray Twins in a biopic of the famed 1960s British gangsters. Now it’s Tom Hardy’s turn to play both Ronnie and Reggie in Legend.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Academy Award® winner Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River) comes the true story of the rise and fall of London’s most notorious gangsters, Reggie and Ron Kray, both portrayed by Tom Hardy in an amazing double performance. LEGEND is a classic crime thriller taking us into the secret history of the 1960s and the extraordinary events that secured the infamy of the Kray Twins.’

The movie will also include the fact that Ronnie Kray was bisexual (while some say he exclusively slept with men, he identified as bisexual). Although him being open about this may seem odd for the 60s, especially considering his profession, it is known that that he did tell many about it and had a series of pretty young boyfriends he likes to show of. He knew the no matter what anyone really though, no one would dare say anything about it to his face – especially because, he was pretty nuts.

The main UK trailer and a poster has been released, to give us a taste of the movie that will be released on Wednesday 9th September 2015. [Read more…]

Legend Trailer – Tom Hardy is the infamous Kray Twins, including the one who ‘prefers boys’

June 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

legend-slide1Tom Hardy pulls double duty in Legend, starring opposite himself as both of the infamous Kray twins, who rules the London underworld in the 1960s and became celebrities in their own right while doing it. Now a proper trailer has arrived, which you can see below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Academy Award® winner Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River) comes the true story of the rise and fall of London’s most notorious gangsters, Reggie and Ron Kray, both portrayed by Tom Hardy in an incredible performance. LEGEND is a classic crime thriller taking us into the secret history of the 1960s and the extraordinary events that secured the infamy of the Kray Twins.’

What hadn’t been clear up until now is whether the film would hide the fact that Ronnie Kray was bisexual (while some say he exclusively slept with men, he identified as bisexual), but the trailer let’s us now this will be a feature, with Reggie letting us know he ‘prefers boys’. Although him being so upfront about this may seem odd for the 60s, it is known that that he was pretty open about it, as he knew no one would dare say anything about it to his face – especially because, as the trailer shows, he was pretty nuts.

Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything, The Harry Potter series), Christopher Eccleston (Thor: The Dark World) and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) also star. Legend is released in cinemas across the UK on September 11th. [Read more…]

Legend Teaser Trailer – Tom Hardy plays both Kray Twins in the upcoming movie

April 30, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

legend-tom-hardy-slideNope, Tom Hardy isn’t starring in a remake of the 1985 Ridley Scott fantasy, as this is something rather different. Instead he’s playing both Reggie and Ronnie Kray, which must have been an interesting acting challenge for considering he’s both of the main characters.

What’s not really hinted at in the teaser is that Reggie Kray was bisexual (while some say he exclusively slept with men, he identified as bisexual). He is believed to have been quite open about this even at the height of his gangster exploits. However it’s not clear how the film will handle this.

Tom Hardy May Play The Kray Twins (Including The Bisexual One) In Legend

February 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hardy-slideWe may be getting twice the Tom Hardy in Legend, as Screen Daily reports that he’s in talks to play both of the legendary London gangsters the Kray Twins in Legend.

The film will ‘chart the tortured and unique relationship between gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray, the identical twin brothers infamous for their criminal exploits in London during the 1950s and 1960s… The script takes in associates, rivals – such as notorious gangster Jack “the Hat” McVitie, who was murdered by Reginald in 1967 – politician Lord Boothby, and the brothers’ nemesis in the police force, DS Leonard “Nipper” Read, who made it his life’s ambition to put the Krays behind bars.’

The brothers were involved in armed robberies, arson, protection rackets, assaults, and several murders, and became infamous in the Swinging Sixties, mixing with celebs and giving off an aura of immunity. However they were eventually arrested in 1968 and sentenced to life in prison.

It’s not known how the film will deal with the sexuality of Reggie Kray, who was bisexual (while some say he exclusively slept with men, he identified as bisexual). He is believed to have been quite open about this even at the height of his gangster exploits, introducing his latest young male conquest to his associates and expecting them to compliment his choice.

LA Confidential screenwriter Brian Helgeland is working on the script and also plans to direct the movie.

42 Trailer – First look at the biopic of Major League Baseball’s first black player

September 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

42 tells the true story of Jackie Robinson, the legendary baseball player who broke Major League Baseball’s colour barrier when he joined the roster of the Brooklyn Dodgers. The movie stars Harrison Ford as the innovative Dodger’s general manager Branch Rickey, the MLB executive who first signed Robinson to the minors and then helped to bring him up to the show, and Chadwick Boseman (The Express) as Robinson, the heroic African American who was the first man to break the colour line in the big leagues. The film is due out next spring.

T.R. Knight Joins Jackie Robinson Biopic 42

April 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although it always seemed that T.R. Knight left Grey’s Anatomy more due to behind-the-scenes personality differences than anything else, he must have hoped his career would have remained a little more high profile than it has. His only post-Grey’s on-screen credit is a single episode of Law &Order: SVU (although he has done a lot of work on stage).

Indeed, the fact he hasn’t made more of an impact has led many to question whether his decision to come out has affected his ability to get roles in TV and film, or if he’s merely following the career trajectory of many TV actors, who find it difficult to find work outside the one thing they’re best known for.

However he’s now scored a big screen role opposite Harrison Ford in 42, a biopic of Jackie Robinson, who became Baseball’s first African-American major league player when Branch Rickey (Ford) signed him for the Dodgers in 1947.

According to THR, ‘Knight will play Harold Parrott, the Dodgers traveling secretary who has to deal with the repercussions of housing once Robinson joins the team.’ And of course housing at the time was more of a problem than it should have been, due to the endemic racism in America. Relative newcomer Chadwick Boseman will play Robinson. Brian Hegeland will direct.

Newcomer To Play Jackie Robinson In Biopic

December 12, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

On Friday we reported that Harrison Ford was being eyed to star as Baseball executive Branch Rickey in a biopic of the sport’s first African American Major League player, Jackie Robinson. Over the weekend it emerged who will play the main role, with Variety reporting that relative newcomer Chadwick Boseman taking the role.

Boseman will depict the iconic play, paying tribute to the legacy and impact Robinson made when he became the first African American Major League Baseball player. Ford’s role is playing the innovative Major League Baseball executive who is best known for breaking the colour barrier by signing Jackie Robinson to a minor league contract in 1945. Two years later, at the start of the 1947 major league baseball season, Jackie Robinson was signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers major league baseball team with the help of Branch Rickey.

Chadwick Boseman is best known for his performance in Universal Pictures’ The Express and has just completed a lead in the independent feature, The Kill Hole. On television he was a regular on the NBC series Persons Unknown.

Harrison Ford Sought For Baseball Flick

December 9, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It seems that at the moment lots of people want Harrison Ford, but it’s not certain if he wants them. A couple of weeks ago it was revealed he’s being eyed for Ender’s Game and now Deadline reports that Legendary Pictures is courting him to star as Branch Rickey in their Jackie Robinson movie, 42.

The role already has quite a history, as originally writer/director Brian Hegeland developed the movie alongside Robert Redford, who was attached to play Rickey. Then Redford left and the part was offered to Jack Nicholson, but he’s apparently passed to. So now it’s on to Harrison Ford. There’s no news on how interested the actor is though.

Rickey is the Los Angeles Dodgers executive credited with signing Jackie Robinson and breaking baseball’s colour barrier in 1947. The movie was originally going to focus on Rickey, but it now appears Robinson will be the main character, although they seemingly still want a big name for the former role.

Don’t be surprised if Harrison passes, as he’s being very selective about his roles nowadays.
