Johanna Mason & Beetee Hunger Games: Catching Fire Fashion Portraits Debut

March 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s starting to feel like we’ll be posting these Hunger Games: Catching Fire fashion portraits every day until the movie is released this November. We’ve already had Effie Trinket and Caesar Flickman, as well as Haymitch, Katniss and Cinna. Now it’s the turn of Beetee (Jeffrey Wright) and Johanna Mason (Jena Malone) – and if everybody from the Quarter Quell Hunger Games is getting a portrait, there’ll be a lot more to come.

Here’s the synopsis for the film: ‘Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.’

Johanna is a former victor from District 7, who like many other champions is forced back into the arena. She’s a ruthless woman who almost immediately butts up against Katniss, although slowly starts to warm to her. Beetee meanwhile is an oddball that most people think will only last a few minutes back in the arena. However Katniss teams up with him and realises how useful his knowledge of electronics will be.

The film’s due out November 22nd.

After the success of The Hunger Games, there’s a massive amount of excitement in some quarters for the follow-up, Catching Fire. Now a couple of ‘Capitol Portraits’ have surfaced, featuring Caesar Flickman (Stanley Tucci) and Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks), done in oil painting style.

The pics come via a Facebook App, that will be releasing more pics over the next day or two.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Victory Tour Posters Emerge

February 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hunger-games-catching-fire-victory-tour-poster1 If you win The Hunger Games you have to go on a tour around the district, and so in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, that’s exactly what Peeta and Katniss must do, whether they want to or not. Now two posters for this Victory Tour have been released, giving off a rather virginal, marriage feeling.

The film’s due out November 22nd. It’ll be interesting to see if Lionsgate continue this marketing strategy, teasing us as if we were residents of Panem.

More Hunger Games: Catching Fire Pics Online, Including First Look At Philip Seymour Hoffman

January 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hunger-games-catching-fire-ew-pic2A couple of days ago our very first look at The Hunger Games: Catching Fire arrived, with an EW cover and a look at Sam Claflin’s Finnick Odair getting close to Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen. Now EW has released a quartet of fresh pics from the film, including our first look at Philip Seymour Hoffman as gamesmaker Plutarch Heavensbee.

There’s also Donald Sutherland as the oily President Snow, a shot of Willow Shields and Paula Malconson as Katniss’ sister and mother, as well as director Francis Lawrence chatting to Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth on the set.

The film sees events in Panem escalate as it’s revealed the next Hunger Games will be different to normal and see previous champions thrown back into the arena – meaning Katniss and Peeta are going to be fighting for their lives again. All the while dissent is growing in the districts against the control of the Capitol. The film hits cinemas November 22nd.

Jennifer Lawrence Gets Close To Sam Claflin In First Look At Hunger Games: Catching Fire

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hunger-games-catching-fire-ew-pic1After the huge success of The Hunger Games, there are a lot of people avidly looking forward to the follow up, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which is due for release on November 22nd. Now EW has released our first look at the movie with the image above and the cover below.

Both images feature Jennifer Lawrence’s Karniss Everdeen alongside new character Finnick Odair, played by British actor Sam Claflin (Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides). Finnick is a previous Hunger Games champion who like Katniss is called up to be sent back into the arena. He’s known for being cocky, arrogant and very much a ladies man, but as we slowly discover, things aren’t quite as they appear.

Francis Lawrence directs, taking over from Gary Ross who made the first film.

Hunger Games: Catching Fire Arena Scenes Being Shot in IMAX

November 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last June, Lionsgate revealed that portions of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be shot in the IMAX format. Now, star Josh Hutcherson revealed that it’s all scenes in the games arena that will be shot in IMAX.

In an interview with MTV, he says, “They’re shooting, I think, all the stuff in the arena is going to be IMAX. So when you go see it in IMAX, you’ll see the regular movie when we’re in the Districts and in the Capitol. When you see us go up in the pod in the games, it will open up into IMAX. It will be amazing. It’s very cool.”

The production recently moved from Atlanta to Hawaii, so they can shoot the jungle scenes in director Francis Lawrence’s sequel (each Hunger Games arena is different, with this one having a jungle-covered area).

The actor also spoke about the watery Cornucopia set that they built in Atlanta, “They actually built a cornucopia in Atlanta that we shot at, and it looks amazing, and the way that the spokes got out, and the way everyone comes up on the pedestals and the water – it looks incredible,” he gushed. “I’ve seen some of the CG renderings that [director] Francis [Lawrence] has worked on, and they look really, really great.”

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire comes to theaters December 22nd, 2013.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Motion Poster Arrives

November 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s a full year until The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is released on November 22nd 2013, and so Lionsgate has released a motion poster for the movie via Facebook.

It’s a fairly familiar image, with the Mockingjay aflame, but I’m certain there’ll be a lot of fans who get excited by it anyway. The plot of the sequel initially sees Hunger Games victor Katniss and Peeta going on a tour of the districts, where they see dissent growing. It’s then revealed that the 75th Hunger Games will see former champions compete, and that means out heroes will have to go back into the arena and fight for survival once more.

Francis Lawrence directs, with Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jena Malone, Sam Claflin and Jeffrey Wright all starring. After Catching Fire we the have two part finale, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Part 1 & 2 coming in November 2014 & 2015 respectively.

Francis Lawrence To Direct Hunger Games: Mockingjay

November 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lionsgate must be pleased with what they’ve seen coming out of the set of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, as they’ve now decided that the director of that film, Francis Lawrence, will continue with the series, signing him to helm The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2.

Mockingjay will be the two-part finale based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling series of books, which concludes Katniss Everdeen’s journey as she becomes the face of a rebellion in the districts of Panem against the tyrannical and corrupt Capitol. As the war escalates, Katniss must decipher for herself who she can trust and what needs to be done, with everything she cares for in the balance. Danny Strong will write the script.

Production on the movie will get underway next year, with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 set for release on November 21, 2014, while Part 2 opens November 20, 2015. Before then we’ll get Catching Fire on November 22nd, 2013. (Source: Collider)

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Gets Writer Danny Strong

October 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire might have only just started shooting, but with release dates already set for Lionsgate’s two-part adaptation of the final book in Suzanne Collins’ trilogy, Mockingjay, the studio has already set to work on the film.

Variety reports that Game Change screenwriter Danny Strong has signed up to write The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. No director has been attached for the two-part finale as of yet, although it’s feasible Catching Fire helmer Francis Lawrence will stay on for these movies. There’s no news either on where in the story the break between the two parts might come. The novel sees Katniss and he cohorts becoming increasingly involved in a revolution that’s started to sweep Panem.

Danny Strong won an Emmy award last week for his Game Change script, and also wrote The Butler for director Lee Daniels, which is currently shooting in New Orleans. Mockingjay Part 1 is already set for release November 21st, 2014, while Part 2 comes on November 20th, 2015.

Sam Claflin Gets Shirtless On The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Set

September 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has started shooting in the Atlanta, Georgia area, and Celebuzz has gotten hold of some intriguing shots from the set, showing Sam Claflin (Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) with his shirt off. The pics may be long-lens and a little blurry, but he’s still hot.

Claflin is playing the dashing Finnick Odair in Catching Fire, the hotshot Hunger Games winner who’s seen as charming, handsome, witty and the darling of all the women in The Capitol. While Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) takes a dislike to him, he reveals hidden depth as the story continues through the third book, Mockingjay.

Click on the pics below for larger versions of the Claflin shirtless hotness. [Read more…]
