Gavin O’Connor Will Helm A Massacre in the Himalayas

June 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gavin-o-connorRecently Gavin O’Connor has been busy stepping in at the last minute to direct the western Jane Got A Gun after Lynne Ramsey walked just a day before production was due to begin. But now the Warrior helmer has got time to think about the future, with Variety reporting that he’s planning to tackle a real-life story called Massacre In The Himalayas.

The film is based on a Men’s Journal article by Freddie Wilkinson, about a team of experienced international mountaineers who were attempting to conquer K2 in Pakistan. Climbing the mountain was difficult enough, but unexpected danger emerged when extremists attacked the party and killed 10 climbers, as well as the local Pakistani cook who had been travelling with them.

300 producer Gianni Nunnari bought the rights to the article, and now O’Connor  has come onboard to direct. A writer is expected to be attached soon.

O’Connor comments, “I love the idea of using the colossal backdrop of K2, the second highest peak on earth, to explore a man’s battle for survival against the Taliban, nature, and himself. Our hero becomes a one-man army on a quest to avenge the deaths of his mountaineering team. His experience becomes a living nightmare, a lifetime journey, and a redefinition of the man.”

Warrior’s Gavin O’Connor Takes On Tell No One

November 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gavin-o-connorTell No One has certainly been through the works in Hollywood. The adaptation of Harlan Coben’s novel has already had the likes of Ben Affleck and Andrew Dominik attached to direct, but they’ve all since moved on. Now a new helmer has moved in, with Variety reporting that Gavin O’Connor has stepped up to the plate.

Tell No One is about a paediatrician who is out one night frolicking by a lake with his wife when she suddenly vanishes and he is severely beaten when he tries to find her. When she turns up murdered, he is the prime suspect. That’s until she’s declared a victim of a caught serial killer. Years later, bodies turn up in the same spot and the nightmare is repeated, the paediatrician again under suspicion. Right around that time, he’s given evidence that his wife wasn’t dead at all.

Gavin O’Connor is best known for directing Warrior, and more recently was a last minute replacement for Lynn Ramsay on the upcoming Jane Got A Gun. There’s no news on when Tell No One might shoot.

Ewan McGregor Steps In For Bradley Cooper In Jane Got A Gun

May 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ewan-mcgregorWe’ve said this before, but it seems the cast of Jane Got A Gun is finally complete, with Ewan McGregor stepping in to on take the villain role in the movie. He replaces the recently departed Bradley Cooper, who dropped out due to scheduling problems.

Cooper himself was a replacement for Jude Law, who dropped out shortly after director Lynne Ramsay left. She bailed shortly before shooting was set to commence, due to conflict with the producers. Even before that, Michael Fassbender had left, as he couldn’t shoot Jane Got A Gun and X-Men: Days Of Future Past at the same time.

However now it appears everything is finally sorted, with McGregor stepping into the villain role. The movie is currently on a shooting break, which was factored in when Gavin O’Connor stepped in to direct at the last minute. Ewan will head to the set next month when shooting restarts.

Natalie Portman stars as the title character, whose husband (Noah Emmerich) comes home riddled with bullet wounds. When the band of outlaws of shot him comes to Jane’s farm to finish the job, she seeks help from a former lover (Joel Edgerton) to ward off these gunmen. McGregor will play the leader of the bad guys.

Jane Got a Gun Loses Yet Another Talent, This Time Bradley Cooper

May 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bradley-cooperIt seems like Jane Got A Gun is bidding to join the ranks of legendary cursed productions, as after Michael Fassbender departed shortly before production due to scheduling problems, he was joined shortly afterwards by director Lynn Ramsay, who had creative differences with the producer. That led Jude Law to depart, who was then replaced by Bradley Cooper.

However Cooper has now gone too, according to Deadline, saying he’d hoped to fit it in but is too busy shooting David O’Russell’s new film and promoting The Hangover Part III. O’Russell’s film was affected by the Boston Bombings, which seems to have caused some delays.

Gavin O’Connor is now directing Jane Got A Gun, and as he had to come in at the last minute they added in a production break to help him get caught up. Cooper was due to film his scenes in the second part of the shoot, which starts next month, but they’ll now have to find a replacement.

Producers have already reached out to Jake Gyllenhaal, who’s unavailable, and are also looking at the likes of Tobey Maguire, and Tom Hiddleston to fill their latest casting void.

Cooper was due to plain the main villain.

Noah Emmerich Completes Jane Got a Gun Cast

April 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Noah-EmmerichIt seems like the problems with Jane Got A Gun have come to an end, as the cast has now been completed with Noah Emmerich stepping into the final main role, according to Deadline. It comes a few weeks after director Lynne Ramsay didn’t show up for the first day of shooting after major problems with the producer, shortly followed by Jude Law, who’d only signed up to work with her (he himself was a late replacement when Michael Fassbender was forced to leave due to scheduling issues).

Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) has taken over in the director’s chair working from a screenplay by Brian Duffield. The movie is about Jane (Natalie Portman), a young wife whose husband (Emmerich) comes home riddled with bullet wounds, clinging on to dear life. She seeks the help of an ex-lover (Joel Edgerton) when the outlaw (Bradley Cooper) who shot her husband comes back to finish off the job.

Despite all the problems, the project has ended up with a good cast and decent director, so hopefully the production issues won’t be visible in the final film.

Bradley Cooper Signs Up For Jane Got a Gun

April 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

bradley-cooperHopefully the musical chairs cast and directing problems with Jane Got A Gun have come to an end, with Bradley Cooper stepping in to replace Jude Law in the Western, according to Variety. Jude Law dropped out of the project last month, just one day after original director Lynne Ramsay abruptly left the project on the first day of shooting.

Jude Law himself was a last-minute replacement, boarding the project last month to take over for Michael Fassbender. Jude Law left after Lynne Ramsay departed as he’d only joined the project so that he could work with her.

Bradley Cooper is currently shooting David O. Russell’s next movie, and will shoot his Jane Got a Gun scenes once he’s completed that.

Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal & Jeff Bridges Eyed For Jane Got a Gun

March 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tobey-maguireThere aren’t many movies that have faced as much drama as Jane Got A Gun did this week. After several days of arguments with the producer, director Lynne Ramsay didn’t show up for the first day of the shoot. This resulted in a scramble to find a replacement, with Gavin O’Connor stepping in.

Ramsay’s departure also saw Jude Law step away, as he’d only signed up to work with her. With O’Connor fast having to catch up on the film and 150 crew sitting around in New Mexico waiting to shoot, a new actor is needed fast. Now the LA Times reports that Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, and Jeff Bridges are being eyed for the part (Bridges may seem rather different to the other two, but he could still work).

Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton and Rodrigo Santoro are all still set to star in this Western, written by Brian Duffield. It’s about a wife (Portman) whose husband (Edgerton) returns home, barely alive after being shot eight times. She seeks the help of an ex-lover to defend her home when the gang of outlaws who shot her husband comes to finish what they started. It’s the head of the outlaws that’s the role currently up for grabs.

Hopefully everything will get sorted out and cameras can start rolling soon.

Gavin O’Connor Replaces Lynne Ramsay On Jane Got a Gun

March 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gavin-o-connorAs we reported yesterday, there was plenty of drama on the set of Jane Got A Gun on Tuesday, when director Lynne Ramsay didn’t show up to shoot the movie. That set off a mad scramble to find a replacement. The producers have now found one as Warrior director Gavin O’Connor has officially replaced Lynne Ramsay as the director on the troubled Western.

Ramsay apparently fled without notice after a week of clashing with producer Scott Steindorff. It is not known what the fight was over.

The ructions have also now caused the departure of star Jude Law, according to Deadline. He only signed up last week, but has now left as he specifically signed on to work with Ramsay. It’s been a slight case of musical chairs in the last few weeks, as Michael Fassbender had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict with X-Men: Days of Future Past. Joel Edgerton, who was already cast in a different role, took Michael Fassbender’s role, with Jude Law taking Joel Edgerton’s place.

Now that Gavin O’Connor has signed up, it’s hoped shooting can commence in the next couple of days. Natalie Portman stars in the Western, which is about a wife whose husband coming home riddled with bullet wounds. She enlists the help of an ex-lover to help defend her land when the gang of outlaws who shot her husband return to finish him off. Rodrigo Santoro also star.

Warrior Helmer Gavin O’Connor Flies To Neverland

March 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

One of several Peter Pan projects doing the round in Hollywood is Neverland, which has Channing Tatum producing (although it doesn’t appear at the moment that he will star). Now the movie has a director, as Variety reports that Warrior helmer Gavin O’Connor is in talks to helm.

The project is an origin story about J.M. Barrie’s Pan and Captain Hook. The original tales followed a boy who never grew up living in the fantastical Neverland. The three children of the Darling family receive a visit from Peter Pan, who takes them to Neverland, where an ongoing war between Peter’s gang of rag-tag runaways and the evil Pirate Captain Hook is taking place. This new film will look at how all of that got started.

The idea for the film was originally hatched by Channing Tatum, his producing partner Reid Carolin, and Eric Bromberg. While the film now has a director, there’s still no guarantee it’ll be made as it’s just one of about half a dozen Pan movies in various stages of development. Not all will make it to the screen, although Neverland seems like it has a good chance.
