John Moore Takes On The Action Thriller The Englishman

August 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

john-mooreA Good Day to Die Hard and Behind Enemy Lines director John Moore is heading back to the action thriller arena, as it’s been revealed that he’s signed up to helm The Englishman, working from a screenplay by William Wisher Jr. (Terminator 2: Judgment Day).

The Englishman is a true story based on the book ‘Once a Pilgrim’ by Will Scully. It unfolds in real time as Will Scully, an ex-SAS officer turned mercenary, gets caught up in a military coup in Africa. Trapped in a hotel together with thousands of innocent civilians and completely surrounded by hostile rebels, he single-handedly takes on the enemy until he can get all the civilians safely evacuated.

Director John Moore commented, “The Englishman is one of those rare stories, the details and circumstance of which are so bizarre and mesmerizing, it created a compulsion in us to tell it. Bill Wisher and I are delighted to be in business with Derby Street and Foresight on this film: they see what we see, they want the movie to be all it can be.”

The movie is set to shoot in South Africa early next year on a $30 million budget.

New A Good Day To Die Hard Trailer – Bruce Willis gets explosive in Russia

January 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Presumably there’s not enough of the US left that John McLane hasn’t had a hand in destroying, and so this time he’s going international, heading to Russia to team up with his son (Jai Courtney) for a new, and as this trailer show, suitably explosive adventure.

What John doesn’t know when he first gets to Russia is that his wayward son, Jack, is actually a highly trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. Jack likes likes his modern, tech based techniques while John is old-school – and the combination may be the only way to stop the bad guys.

The film’s due out February 14th, 2013, so it’ll be a Valentine’s movie for the guys.

A Good Day To Die Hard Teaser Trailer – McClane and son go to Russia

October 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We don’t get much plot on the teaser for A Good Day To Die Hard, but it certainly suggests playful humour, plenty of action and a little bit of sexiness. The film sees John McLane being a fish out of water once again, this time is Russia, where he teams up with his estranged son (Jai Courteney) to take down some bad guys. The film’s due out February 14th, 2013, so it’ll be a Valentine’s movie for the guys.

New Pic From A Good Day To Die Hard Hits

October 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Die Hard is becoming a bit more of a family affair with the fifth installment, A Good Day To Die Hard. While we’ve seen John McLane’s ex-wife and kids before, they’ve never been fully involved in fighting the bad guys, but now his estranged son Jack (Jai Courtney) is taking on his father’s mantle.

The film sees father and son having to team up in Moscow to stop a nefarious Russian leader. Along with the image, EW has come comments from Jai Courtney about the movie. Talking about the father/son dynamic, he says, “The relationship isn’t always functional. These are two guys who have been estranged for some time. John likes to wing it, see what happens. Jack’s more of a strategist.”

While talking about the Moscow setting, he says, “That’s the thing about the Die Hard franchise, John’s always a fish out of water. What could be further out of water for him than Russia?”

The film will be out February 13th 2013.

Jai Courtney Playing John McLane’s Son In A Good Day To Die Hard

February 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been a fair amount of speculation about who would play John McLane’s son in A Good Day To Die Hard, the fifith installment of the Die Hard series. The likes of Liam Hemsworth, Aaron Paul, Ben Foster, Paul Dano, and Milo Ventimiglia are all said to have tested for the part, but now the role has gone to somebody would wasn’t even mentioned in previous rumours about the role, Spartacus: Blood & Sand actor Jai Courtney.

20th Century Fox even released a shot of Courtney during a screen test with Bruce Willis, which you can see above.

A Good Day to Die Hard puts McClane on an international stage – truly a NYC fish out of water in Moscow – and introduces his estranged son Jack, who may even be more of a hardass than his father. Despite their differences, they must work together to keep each other alive – and the world safe for democracy. The film begins production this April, for a February 14, 2013 release.

Last year, Courtney landed a starring role opposite Tom Cruise in One Shot, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, so the Aussie actor’s star is definitely on the rise.
