Kong: Skull Island Final Trailer – Tom Hiddleston finds a giant gorilla & plenty more monsters

February 27, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kong: Skull Island will be one of Hollywood’s first big tests of the year. Warner has hopes for a franchise and is already planning to put Kong up against Godzilla, but it’s far from certain whether Skull Island will be the massive hit they’re hoping for. It certainly looks like it could be pretty fun though.

To help increase the hype, a big, final trailer has been released.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “Kong: Skull Island” reimagines the origin of the mythic Kong in a compelling, original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. In the film, a diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific—as beautiful as it is treacherous—unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.

‘“Kong: Skull Island” stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Oscar winner Brie Larson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly. The international ensemble cast also includes Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Thomas Mann, Shea Whigham, Toby Kebbell and Eugene Cordero. Vogt-Roberts directs the film from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy and Derek Connolly. “Kong: Skull Island” is produced by Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni with Mary Parent. The executive producers are Eric McLeod and Alex Garcia. Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Present a Legendary Pictures Production, “Kong: Skull Island.”’

The film hits cinemas on March 9th. [Read more…]

Kong: Skull Island Trailer – Tom Hiddleston & Brie Larson find a big ape & a world of monsters

November 17, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kong-skull-island-poster1-slideA few months ago we got a Comic Con trailer for Kong: Skull Island, which showed us plenty of things, but not much of the giant ape himself, Kong. However, that’s now been remedied with a new, final trailer, which has much more of the infamous simian, along with a variety of the the other creatures on the island, from gargantuan spiders to strange dinsosaur-like nasties.

You can watch the trailer and see a couple of new posters below.

First Looks At Kong: Skull Island and Valerian & The City Of A Thousand Planets

April 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

valerian-slideThe MTV Movie Awards offered the chance to get our first peak at a couple of highly anticipated new movie, most notably Kong: Skull Island and Luce Besson’s Valerian & The City Of A Thousand Planets.

Oscar-winner Brie Larson takes us to the set of Kong: Skull Island, which focuses on the action and excitement of the film. Tom Hiddleston and Corey Hawkins are also on hand talk up the movie, letting us know that it’s set during the Vietnam era and see a group of adventurers and military getting far more than they bargained for when they arrive on the uncharted Skull Island. It confirms that King Kong will be a bit part of the story, but also that it completely reboots things, as the giant gorilla was never taken to New York and isn’t the last of his kind.

Valerian & The City Of A Thousand Planets meanwhile is based on a classic novel, which as is pointed out in the footage below, helped inspire the likes of Star Wars and Avatar. Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne star in Luc Besson’s film version, which offers up a behind-the-scenes look in the footage below. In the original graphic novel, Valérian and Laureline are 28th Century agents working for the Galaxity organization, whose adventures take them across time and space. However after Galaxity and their home planet disappear, they are left to forge a future on their own. [Read more…]

Michael Keaton May Head With Tom Hiddleston To Kong: Skull Island

January 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-keatonFollowing his potentially Oscar-winning role in Birdman, Hollywood seems to have suddenly remembered the talent that is Michael Keaton. He’s suddenly become far more in demand than he has been for many years, and that includes the makers of Kong: Skull Island, who are finalising a deal for Keaton to star, according to THR.

Assuming that deal comes together, he will star alongside Tom Hiddleston and J.K. Simmons in the film, which is a prequel to King Kong. Not too much is known about the plot specifics, but the movie will be entirely set on Skull Island, the mysterious place full of dinosaurs and monsters, along with giant apes. The speculation is that it will be about how Kong became the last of the giant gorillas, while also giving an explanation for how outsiders knew about the island and so set sail to later find and capture Kong.

It isn’t known who Keaton will play, although it’s believed the three actors currently cast will be the core of a group who set out to explore the island..

Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer), will direct from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein. A March 10th, 2017 release date is already pencilled in.

J.K. Simmons Joins Tom Hiddleston In Kong: Skull Island

December 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jk-simmonsA few weeks ago Tom Hiddleston became the first actor to sign up to star in Kong: Skull Island (which as the time was just known as Skull Island, before it got a more franchise friendly title). Now he’s got some company, as the always excellent J.K. Simmons has signed up too, according to Variety.

Few specific details have been released about the plot, or indeed either of the actors’ characters, but we do know it will be a prequel to King Kong, and that the movie will be entirely set on Skull Island, the mysterious place full of dinosaurs and monsters, along with giant apes. The speculation is that it will be about how Kong became the last of the giant gorillas, while also giving an explanation for how outsiders new about the island and so set sail to later find and capture Kong.

Back in October screenwriter John Gatins (Need for Speed, Real Steel) signed up to rewrite the original script by Max Borenstein (Godzilla, Seventh Son). Jordan Vogt-Roberts is set to direct back, with March 10th, 2017 release date already pencilled in.

Tom Hiddleston Up For King Kong Prequel Skull Island

September 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom-HiddlestonIt’s not often a movie gets trailer before the film has a director or a cast, but Skull Island did when Legendary unveiled a promo for the movie at Comic Con a few months ago (although sadly only those in San Diego got to see it).

Now Universal and Legendary are filling in the blanks, with the announcement that Tom Hiddleston will play the main human role, while King Of Summer helmer Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct.

There are still no details of the plot of Max Borenstein’s script, although it is known that the movie will be entirely set on Skull Island, the mysterious place full of dinosaurs and monsters, along with giant apes. Taking place before the events of King Kong, the speculation is that it will be about how Kong became the last of the giant gorillas.

The film’s due out November 2016.

Kings Of Summer’s Jordan Vogt-Roberts To Helm Metal Gear Solid Movie

June 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jordan-Vogt-RobertsFor years there’s been talk of a movie version of the video game Metal Gear Solid. Now Sony is trying to push it forward with Deadline reporting that Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) is in talks to direct.

The video game, which first launched on the Playstation in 1998, is about a retired soldier named Solid Snake, who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to thwart a terrorist attack by a renegade special forces unit, known as Foxhound. Solid Snake must rescue two hostages, the head of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the president of a major arms company, before stopping the nuclear attack.

A movie version has been in development for many years, although it looked like they’d given up on the back in January 2010. At that point producer Michael De Luca said the project wasn’t moving forward anymore. However in September 2012 producer Avi Arad and Sony Pictures stepped in and revived it.

The would be Vogt-Roberts first major studio gig.
