Final Fast & Furious 6 Trailer Arrives – The Cars rev up once again

April 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s just under a month until Fast & Furious 6 hits cinemas, and so to ensure fans’ excitement is at a maximum, Universal has released the final trailer for the movie, which features a little more plot than previous promos, while also offering plenty of high-octane action.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of all-stars as the global blockbuster franchise built on speed races to its next continent in Fast & Furious 6.  Reuniting for their most high-stakes adventure yet, fan favourites Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Elsa Pataky are joined by badass series newcomers Luke Evans and Gina Carano.

‘Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe.  But their inability to return home and living forever on the run has left their lives incomplete.

‘Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organisation of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez).  The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London.  Payment?  Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.’

The movie hits cinemas May 24th.

Dwayne Johnson Gets A Fast & Furious 6 Poster, But May Be Too Busy For Part 7

April 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dwayne Jonson joined the Fast & Furious franchise in part 5 and is back for the sixth movie this summer. Now he’s got his own poster for the movie, showing off his character, Luke Hobbs, looking a bit tough and moody.

However there may be problems with him coming back for the seventh film. Universal wants it as quick as possible, which means that director Justin Lin has already stepped away, saying he doesn’t have time to finish Part 6 and prepare the next one at the same time. The studio has already moved to replace his with James Wan so they can keep their hoped summer 2013 shoot date and 2014 release date.

If that happens, they may lose Johnson though, as the actor told Collider, “[A Summer shoot] is not possible for me because I’m shooting Hercules [with director Brett Ratner] this summer starting in 6 weeks in Budapest, so, possible for them I’m not too sure. I haven’t heard anything about that and I’m pretty sure I would have gotten a phone call pretty early in the morning if that was the real plan. Not quite too sure though.”

Universal does appear to want to keep Johnson in the Furious family, so they may ensure they can work around his schedule.

Director James Wan Circling Fast & Furious 7

April 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

James-WanUniversal Pictures had a problem last week when Justin Lin stepped away from helming Fast & Furious 7 due to the quick production schedule the studio wanted. However Universal still want to aim for a summer 2014 release, so they’ve quickly been looking for a replacement and now Deadline reports that they’re working on a deal with Saw and Insidious helmer James Wan to direct the movie.

Justin Lin directed the last four instalments of the franchise, but didn’t want to be prepping Part 7 as he completed Part 6. He seems quite happy about his replacement though, commenting, “I’m extremely proud to be part of the Fast franchise, it is an experience I will always treasure. It’s time for me to move on to other things and I’m thrilled that Universal and Neal have selected James Wan to lead the franchise into its new chapter.”

Contraband helmer Baltasar Kormákur, Jeff Wadlow and Harald Zwart were also being considered.

Director Justin Lin Out Of Fast & Furious 7

April 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

justin-linEver since he found Hollywood success with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Justin Lin has been attached to all sorts of different films, but Universal has kept pulling him back in to make more Fast & Furious movies. He’s already shot Fast & Furious 6 and was supposed to films Fast & Furious 7 later this year, but now he’s dropped out of the project, according to THR.

It seems Universal’s accelerated production schedule – which would mean he’d have to start prepping Fast & Furious 7, while he is still in post-production on Fast & Furious 6 – is the main reason he stepped aside. One insider claims that the filmmaker believed the rushed schedule would have resulted in a sub-par film. Of course it means he may now finally get to make some of the other movies he’s been flirting with, such as L.A. Riots, Lone Wolf And Cub, and the comedy Chinglish.

Fast & Furious 6 and Fast & Furious 7 were written at the same time by Chris Morgan, as initially they were going to be shot back-to-back but that plan was scrapped fairly early on.

Universal Pictures is currently seeking a new director for Fast & Furious 7, with a decision expected to be made as early as next week.

Fast & Furious Helmer Justin Lin Opens Patrick Lee Thriller

February 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Justin Lin has made his Hollywood name with Fast & Furious movies. While he’s been attached to or flirted with various other films, since 2006 he’s stuck with the car franchise, with his fourth, Fast & Furious 6, due this summer. However now he’s planning something new, as Deadline reports he’s attached to helm an adaptation of Patrick Lee’s latest novel (which follows The Breach, Ghost Country and Deep Sky).

It doesn’t appear the book even has a title yet, but it will be published next winter. Despite this, the idea behind it was enough to set off a bidding battle between several studios over the rights, with Warner Bros winning out and Lin quickly coming onboard to direct.

The book is about ex-special operative Sam Dryden, who runs into a mysterious young girl who is not quite what she seems, and he embarks on a journey to keep her safe from a powerful government agent intent on hunting her down. The book is the planned as the start of a series featuring Dryden, with Warner picking up the rights for future instalments too, in the hope this can be a major franchise.

There’s no news on when this film might fo into production.

Second Fast & Furious 6 Trailer – Paul Walker & Vin Diesel are back

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After the Superbowl we got our first look at Fast & Furious 6, and now just a couple weeks later a new trailer has arrived, giving us a fresh look at the latest instalment in the hit franchise, along with a new poster, featuring Paul Walker.

Plot Synopsis For Fast & Furious 6 Arrives

February 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fast-and-furious-6-pic1Universal is hoping that the sixth instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise will match the popularity of the earlier movies when it’s released this summer. For a long time we’ve known they were shaking things up slightly by bringing the action to Europe, but we haven’t had many details of the actual plot.

Now the official synopsis for the Justin Lin directed movie has arrived, giving us a few more details on exactly why they’re on this side of the Pond.

Here it is: ‘Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of all-stars as the global blockbuster franchise built on speed races to its next continent in Fast & Furious 6. Reuniting for their most high-stakes adventure yet, fan favorites Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Elsa Pataky are joined by badass series newcomers Luke Evans and Gina Carano.

‘Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

‘Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

‘Building on the worldwide blockbuster success of Fast Five and taking the action, stunts and narrative to even greater heights, Fast & Furious 6 sees director Justin Lin back behind the camera for the fourth time. He is supported by longtime producers Neal H. Moritz and Vin Diesel, who welcome producer Clayton Townsend back to the series.’

There’s still no info on how the likes of Gina Carano fits into all this, but we’ll certainly find out when it’s released this May.

Fast & Furious Helmer Justin Lin Going Into Sci-fi Thriller Hibernation

November 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Thanks to his work on the Fast & Furious franchise, Justin Lin is one of the hottest properties in Hollywood. While he’s stuck to the car movies for the past few years, he’s now casting his net wider, and THR reports he has signed on to direct Hibernation.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Will Frank wrote the screenplay for this futuristic sci-fi thriller, but unfortunately no plot details have been released for the movie.

This is the second genre project Justin Lin has attached himself to this week, as last Tuesday it was revealed that the filmmaker is directing the sci-fi comedy Subdivision for Universal Pictures. There’s a decent chance Hibernation will end up at Universal too, as Lin has a deal at the studio and they’re very keen on keeping him happy.

Lin also has L.A. Riots, Chinglish and Lone Wolf and Cub in development, although with a ridiculously busy slate, he has stepped away from a remake of Highlander and a fifth Terminator movie. He’s currently shooting Fast & Furious 6, although it isn’t known what will come after that.

Luke Evans Offered Fast Six Villain Role?

May 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems the idea of Brits being villainous in Hollywood movies isn’t dead, as a few months ago it was rumoured Jason Statham was being sought to play the bad guy in Fast & The Furious 6. It appears that didn’t work out, but they still want someone from the UK, as Twitch reports the role has now been offered to Immortals and Three Musketeers actor Luke Evans. It’s still on the level of being a rumour at the moment, but may well turn out to be true.

There’s no news on exactly who Evans would play, although it would play into rumours that after the US, Japan and Mexico, the franchise is heading to Europe for part six.

Evans has seemed poised on major stardom for a year or two now, but hasn’t quite made it yet. However if he gets this part, along with his role in The Hobbit, it could tip him further towards the a-list (and we’ll ignore for the minute whether he’s gone back into the closet or not in order to try and further his Hollywood career). Fast & The Furious 6 is due out May 2013.

Justin Lin Directing Culture Clash Rom Com Chinglish

April 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Justin Lin has made a name for himself with the high octane action of Fast & The Furious 3, 4 & 5. Parts 6 & 7 are currently in the works, and he’s also got several other projects on the boil. However, they’re all in the action or sci-fi arena, but now he’s added something rather different, signing on to direct a film version of the play Chinglish, according to Deadline.

Penned by Tony Award-winner David Henry Hwang, the culture clash comedy is about an American businessman who travels to China on business, but unexpectedly finds love. Lin says, “As soon as I saw Chinglish on Broadway. I began to envision this smart and insightful cross-cultural comedy as a film.”

As well as the love story and humor, Lin felt the play’s political commentary made it a “very timely” story that would do well on screen.

It’s certainly something a bit different for Lin and it’s unlikely he’ll be able to get round to it for quite a while, as Justin already has quite a lot on his place.
