Matt Damon Plans His Directing Debut With A Foreigner

August 28, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matt-damon-pic1For the last couple of years Matt Damon has been looking for projects to direct. He was supposed to helm Promised Land before he handed the reigns to Gus Van Sant. Now he’s got a new project to helm, as THR reports that he’s planning to helm A Foreigner, based on a script by Chris Terrio.

Damon is following in the footsteps of buddy (and production company business partner) Ben Affleck, who won an Oscar for directing Terrio’s screenplay for Argo. The movie is based on a The New Yorker called A Murder Foretold by David Grann. The article ‘chronicles the true story of a man who is gunned down in Guatemala who leaves behind a videotape after his death implicating the country’s president and first lady.’

Damon is also planning to star in the movie, although there’s no indication of when it might shoot.

Gus Van Sant Takes Over Matt Damon’s Directorial Debut

January 9, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Last week we reported that Matt Damon was stepping away from helming what was set to be his directorial debut. At the time is seemed rather odd, as it appeared he liked it enough to star in the movie but for some reason didn’t want to direct anymore.

There were rumours it was something to do with the script, but now it appears Damon may have stepped aside as someone more experienced has come along (and because starring is a film is easier to fit into a hectic schedule than directing one), as The Playlist reports Damon is likely to reteam with his Good Will Hunting cohort, Gus Van Sant, for the film.

Not too much is known about the movie, although Damon co-wrote the script with The Office’s John Krasinski, based on an idea Krasinski cooked up with writer Dave Eggers. What we do known is that it’s been described as a Capra-esque story, with Damon playing a sales executive (Damon) who arrives in a small town only to have his whole life called into question. Krasinski will also star as a rival businessman.

The plan is to start shooting in April, with Van Sant at the helm.

Matt Damon Backs Out Of Directorial Debut

January 6, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

For almost a year now Matt Damon has been keen to become a director. After flirting with a couple projects, in October he set up his directorial debut at Warner, with an untitled drama he co-wrote with The Office’s John Krasinski, based on a concept he developed with Dave Eggers.

However, now Vulture reports that Damon is stepping away from this project as a director, but perhaps oddly, it appears he’s still set to star in the film. Story details have been slim, but the screenplay revolves around a salesman who moves to a small town, only to be met with disdain from the locals.

It’s not known exactly why Matt left the director’s seat, although there are rumours that he has issues with the script (although if that’s true, it seem odd he’s still willing to star in the movie). It’s not certain though whether Warner will go ahead with the $12 million movie is Matt drops out entirely.
