For the last couple of years Matt Damon has been looking for projects to direct. He was supposed to helm Promised Land before he handed the reigns to Gus Van Sant. Now he’s got a new project to helm, as THR reports that he’s planning to helm A Foreigner, based on a script by Chris Terrio.
Damon is following in the footsteps of buddy (and production company business partner) Ben Affleck, who won an Oscar for directing Terrio’s screenplay for Argo. The movie is based on a The New Yorker called A Murder Foretold by David Grann. The article ‘chronicles the true story of a man who is gunned down in Guatemala who leaves behind a videotape after his death implicating the country’s president and first lady.’
Damon is also planning to star in the movie, although there’s no indication of when it might shoot.
