Hollywood loves ‘synergy’, so with Disney have lots of success with live-action versions of its animated hits, it makes sense they’d want to make one that also taps into Tinsel Town’s desire increasingly tap into the ever-growing Chinese market. As a result, we’re getting a live-action Mulan.

The film has now gone into production and to mark the occasion the first image has been released.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Production on Disney’s Mulan, a live-action adaptation of the studio’s 1998 animated feature, has begun. The film will shoot on locations in New Zealand and China and will be released in the UK on March 27, 2020.

‘Mulan is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. Jessica Chastain Joins The Zookeeper’s Wife

May 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jessica-ChastainJessica Chastain has certainly made her mark on the film world in the last couple of years, even if her lack of big blockbuster Hollywood movies means she’s still not that well known to the general moviegoing public. She’s sticking with the sort of movies that bring a lot of critical acclaim even if they don’t always become breakout mianstream hits, as THR reports he’s take the title role in The Zookeeper’s Wife.

Based on Diane Ackerman’s non-fiction book, The Zookeeper’s Wife, the tome chronicles how Jan and Atonina Zabinski, who were the keepers at the Warsaw Zoo, turned it into a safe haven for Jews during the Second World War, after the Nazis invaded Poland. Persecuted Jews were hidden in cages and sheds (most of the animals were dead), as well as the Zabinski’s house.

Niki Caro (Whale Rider) is set to direct, with a script by Angela Workman. Now that Chastain is attached, the movie will be looking for buyers at Cannes later this month.

Kevin Costner Signs Up For Running Drama McFarland

July 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I think it’s fair to say that Kevin Costner likes sports. After all, there can’t be many other reasons he’s spent half his career making the likes of Bull Durham, Field Of Dreams, Tin Cup, For The Love Of The Game and Play It To The Bone. Now he’s heading back for the running drama McFarland, for Whale Rider director Niki Caro.

The film is based on a true story about a high school sport coach (Costner) who settles into McFarland, California, a poor, Latino community, and turns the cross-country running team into a championship-winning dynasty. Variety describes the movie as ‘a cross between Remember the Titans and Coach Carter.’

Costner hasn’t made that many film appearances in the past few years, but he’ll be hoping his role as Jonathan Kent in Man Of Steel will give him a bit of a career boost, and that McFarland can help with that too.
