Serena Trailer – Plus posters for the Jennifer Lawrence & Bradley Cooper reunion

September 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

serena-poster1Serena certainly looks like it’s going to be pretty, but perhaps surprisingly while it looks like Oscar fodder there’s no US release set yet. However other parts of the world are luckier, as it’s due for release in the UK on October 24th and comes to various other countries in the coming months too.

Now we get to take a look with the trailer and posters, which show off Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper’s giving a rather different period look to their American Hustle efforts, which you can see above and below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘North Carolina mountains at the end of the 1920s – George and Serena Pemberton, love-struck newly-weds, begin to build a timber empire. Serena soon proves herself to be equal to any man: overseeing loggers, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. With power and influence now in their hands, the Pembertons refuse to let anyone stand in the way of their inflated love and ambitions. However, once Serena discovers George’s hidden past and faces an unchangeable fate of her own, the Pembertons’ passionate marriage begins to unravel leading toward a dramatic reckoning.’

Interestingly when it originally went development it was going to be rather different, as Darren Aronofsky was set to direct with Angelina Jolie starring. Now though it’s Lawrence, Cooper and Susanne Bier directing. [Read more…]

Cate Blanchett Is Getting Archaeological For The Dig

April 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cate-BlanchettFresh from her Oscar win, Cate Blanchett is lining up some new movies, with the latest one she’s in talks for sounding like it could be pretty interesting. Screen International reports that she’s up for The Dig, from Danish director Susanne Bier.

The film, ‘explores the story and characters behind the 1938/9 excavation of Sutton Hoo, whose sixth and seventh century riches included a 27-metre ship and which is the likely burial site of King Raedwald of East Anglia.’

It’s one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in British history, with many of the treasures found still amongst the most famous object in the British Museum. However the dig took place in the shadow of the run-up to World War 2. Blanchett will play amateur archaeologist Edith Pretty, one of the driving forces behind the find, who used it to occupy her time after the death of her husband.

She drafted in famed excavator Basil Brown to help uncover the Sutton Hoo ship burial. It was Pretty who actually owned all the treasures after they were dug up, but she gifted them to the nation, which at the time the biggest gift to the British Museum by a living donor.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Is Getting A Second Chance

October 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nikolaj-Coster-WaldauEver since he scored the role of Jaime Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s career has been on the rise, including roles in Mama, Oblivion and the upcoming God Of Egypt. Now he’s signed on Susanne Bier’s latest, A Second Chance, according to ScreenDaily.

The film’s backers, TrustNordisk, issued a statement about the movie, saying, ‘How far are decent human beings willing to go, when tragedy blurs the line between just and unjust? With A Second Chance, Susanne Bier and [screenwriter] Anders Thomas Jensen have crafted another startling yet moving drama, about how easily we lose our grasp on justice, when we face the unthinkable and life as we know it hangs by a thread.’

Unfortunately that’s all we know about the plot. Filming will begin in November on the Danish island of Funen.

Jennifer Lawrence Takes On The Rules of Inheritance

Jennifer Lawrence

She may be only 23-years-old, but Jennifer Lawrence already has a Best Actress Oscar, and now she wants to add producer to her list of talents, as TheWrap reports that Lawrence has signed on to star in and produce The Rules of Inheritance for director Susanne Bier (Things We Lost in the Fire).

Abi Morgan (Shame, The Iron Lady) wrote the screenplay, based on Claire Bidwell Smith’s memoir. Bidwell was an only child who lost both of her parents to cancer over seven years when she was a young adult. The book chronicles the many adventures and romances she embarks on in an effort to cope with her loss, while finding out who she really is in the process.

FilmNation Entertainment is financing and handling sales on the project. The studio’s Glen Basner and Aaron Ryder commented, “We are thrilled to be working with the dream team of Jennifer Lawrence, Susanne Bier, Abi Morgan and Bruce Cohen. We have no doubt that this inspirational and hopeful book will be turned into an emotionally powerful movie that audiences around the world will fall in love with.”

It’s isn’t currently known when it might shoot.

Love Is All You Need Trailer – Susanne Bier teams up with Pierce Brosnan

November 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Susanne Bier (After The Wedding, Brothers, Things We Lost In The Fire) isn’t known for being the cheeriest of directors, but she’s heading in a slightly more rom-com direction with Love Is All You Need, although still with plenty of bittersweet middle-aged angst. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Philip (Pierce Brosnan), an Englishman living in Denmark, is a lonely, middle-aged widower and estranged single father. Ida (Trine Dyrholm) is a Danish hairdresser, recuperating from chemotherapy, who has just learned that her husband is leaving her for a woman half his age from the accounts department. The fates of these two bruised souls are about to intertwine as they embark for Italy to attend the wedding of his son, Patrick, to her daughter, Astrid. With warmth, affection and confidence, Susanne Bier has shaken a cocktail of love, loss, absurdity, humour and delicately drawn characters that will leave only the hardest heart untouched. It is a film about the simple yet profound pains and joys of moving on – and forward – with your life.’

First Look At Bradley Cooper & Jennifer Lawrence In Serena

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are busy people, and recently they’ve been busy doing things together, as the pair both star in two upcoming projects – David O’Russell’s The Silver Linings Playbook and Susanne Bier’s Serena. The first pic from the latter has now shown up online, via FirstShowing, with the duo looking suitably as if they’ve just fallen out of the Great Depression, and Lawrence wearing something dead around her neck!

The film, based on Ron Rash’s book, takes place in 1929 North Carolina, where young newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton (Cooper and Lawrence) move to build a timber empire. Their ambition is all-consuming and dangerous – neither is afraid to kill or destroy anyone who opposes them – but they’re turned against each other when Serena finds she can’t bear children and then launches a deadly vendetta against her husband’s illegitimate son. No release date is yet set.

Jennifer Lawrence & Bradley Cooper Re-teaming For Serena

January 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper must have had fun on the set of David O’Russell’s The Silver Linings Playbook, as Vulture reports they’re planning to team up again for an adaptation of Ron Rash’s book Serena.

According to Vulture, ‘Serena takes place in 1929 North Carolina, where young newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton move to build a timber empire. Their ambition is all-consuming and dangerous – neither is afraid to kill or destroy anyone who opposes them – but they’re turned against each other when Serena finds she can’t bear children and then launches a deadly vendetta against her husband’s illegitimate son.’

It certainly sounds like there’ll be plenty of high drama.

An adaptation has been mooted for a couple of years, with Darren Aronofsky having previously sniffed around to direct and Angelina Jolie flirting with starring. Now Susanne Bier (Brothers, After The Wedding, In A Better World) will helm, with shooting set to begin soon.
