Danny McBride Plans Remake Of Danish Comedy Clown

April 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Danny McBride’s film career hasn’t quite hit the heights that many expected it to, but he’s had huge amounts of deserved kudos for the series Eastbound & Down, which will finish its three season run on US TV this weekend. That’ll give him time to concentrate on his movie career, and he’s now joining forces with producer Todd Phillips for a remake of the Danish comedy Clown.

The Eastbound & Down actor will write, produce, and star in the movie. The original Scandinavian movie spawned from a TV series, and follows Casper and Frank who are planning a party-heavy vacation. Their plans are thrown asunder when Frank has to take his girlfriend’s 11-year-old son with them on the trip. He’s supposed to be proving he’s a good father, but continues to party even with the young boy in tow.

The Hangover helmer Todd Phillips is only attached to produce at this point, and is not set to direct. Danny McBride will start writing the script immediately, but it isn’t know when it might shoot. (Source: Deadline)

Hangover Part III Set For May 2013

March 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We knew it was almost certainly coming (Warner put it into development before Part II came out), but now The Hangover Part III has been officially announced and a release date set for May 14th, 2013, which is Memorial Day weekend in the US.

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis will reprise their roles as Phil, Stu and Alan, aka ‘the Wolfpack’. Director Todd Phillips commented, “I’m so excited to embark on another Hangover film with Bradley, Ed and Zach. We’re going to surprise a lot of people with the final chapter we have planned. It will be a fitting conclusion to our three-part opera of mayhem, despair and bad decisions.”

Phillips is therefore promising this will be the last, although if its even half the success of the previous movie, it’s likely Warner will want to find some way of continuing. Todd is writing the screenplay with Craig Mazin, who also collaborated with him on the screenplay for The Hangover Part II. Production on the film is projected to begin in September 2012.

Todd Phillips Sets Up Four Films At Warner Bros

February 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Warner Bros. really wants to be in the Todd Phillips business as Deadline reports the Hangover and Due Date filmmaker has set up four movies with the studio after he extended a first-look deal with Warner. The films include Mule, based on the acclaimed novel by Tony D’Souza about a young couple who turn to drug trafficking to make it through the recession

There’s also Arms and the Dudes, based on a Rolling Stone article by Guy Lawson that follows two stoners from Miami Beach who become big-time arms dealers, until the Pentagon turned on them. The Island is based on a story by Travis Fickett and Terry Matalas, with a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel (Due Date), but there aren’t any story details on that one. Finally there’s a film based on the YouTube and FunnyOrDie sensation What’s It Gonna Be by Mike O’Connell and Ken Jeong, in which the duo pose as a mock rap duo.

Phillips first three films under his initial production deal with Warner Bros. have generated more than $1.2 billion at the global box-office, so it’s little surprise the studio wants to keep the relationship going. At the moment Todd is only producing these movies, but it’s likely he’ll pick some to direct, while also making The Hangover Part III for Warner.
