Zack Snyder Confirmed To Direct Justice League

April 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zack-snyder-slideThere’s been a presumption that the planned Batman Vs. Superman movie will lead to a Justice League film. However until now Warner has officially confirmed that. Now though they’ve not just said it’s going to happen, they’ve announced Zack Snyder will direct.

Batman Vs. Superman begins production next month, and there’s some suggestion that Justice League will shoot back to back with that movie, although that’s not been confirmed.

It appears if they’re shooting separately we’ll get Justice League in 2018, but if it’s back to back it’ll be 2017.

Specific plot or casting details have not been revealed, but it is almost certain that Henry Cavill will return as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonderwoman. Ray Fisher is expected to make a cameo in Batman Vs. Superman as Cyborg and then appear in Justice League.

There’s no confirmation on what other DC superheroes might appear in the movie.

Ray Fisher Will Be Cyborg In Batman Vs. Superman

April 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

cyborg-dcThe cast of Warner’s Batman/Superman movie continues to grow with the news that Broadway actor Ray Fisher has landed the role of Cyborg in the movie, according to Variety.

It’s being suggested that the character doesn’t have a major role in the new movie, but that Warner will introduce him in the Batman.Superman movie, and Cyborg will play a much bigger part in other movies the studio is developing, leading up to Justice League.

Fisher joins Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/Superman), Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Gal Gadot (Diana Prince/Wonder Woman), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey and Tao Okamoto.

Cyborg is Victor Stone, a half-man half-robot whose body was destroyed during an accident at S.T.A.R. Labs. He was saved through the use of experimental technology, with his body parts being replaced with a number of high-tech gadgets and weapons.

Ray Fisher was also up for a Jedi apprentice role in Star Wars: Episode VII, and is best known for portraying Muhammad Ali in the Broadway play, Fetch Clay, Make Man. Batman Vs. Superman is currently filming in Michigan.

Holly Hunter & More Up For Superman Vs. Batman

April 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

holly-hunter-thumbWith Batman Vs. Superman gearing up to shoot this summer, it’s almost surprising we haven’t heard about more new cast members. However now a new trio has signed on as Deadline reports that Oscar-winner Holly Hunter has signed up, and so have two actors with superhero experience, Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s Callan Mulvey and The Wolverine’s Tao Okamoto.

Unfortunately though there’s no info on who they will be, but to stop people poring through the DC archive for possible characters they might be playing, as Warner has said all three actors will play characters newly created for the film.

Director Zack Snyder comments, “Holly has always been one of my favourite actresses; she has immense talent and is always captivating on screen. I had an opportunity to meet her a while back and knew instantly that I had to work with her, so as we began writing the script I made sure to create a role specifically for her. I just had the good fortune to work with Callan on 300: Rise of an Empire and was very impressed with his incredible talent. He’s a fantastic actor and I’m looking forward to having the chance to work with him again. And, quite simply, Tao is a striking presence whose beauty is aptly rivaled by her amazing abilities as an actress. I’m really excited to have her joining us on this adventure.”

Henry Cavill will return Superman/Clark Kent, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane also returning. Newcomers include Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred.

The film is set to hit cinemas May 6th, 2016.

Jesse Eisenberg Is Batman Vs. Superman’s Lex Luthor, With Jeremy Irons As Alfred

February 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jesse-eisenbergThere’s been a lot of speculation over the last few months about who would play Lex Luthor in Batman Vs. Superman. However now Warner Bros. has announced that Jesse Eisenberg will play Luthor in the movie, with Jeremy Irons will as Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler Alfred.

Zack Snyder commented, “Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exist, beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

He continued, “As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure. He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”

There’s already been plenty of internet chatter over Eisenberg’s casting, with some suggesting he’s either too young or too nerdy to be the evil business magnate – although some feel that’s just what makes him right for the role, as in the age of the Internet, billionaires can look different from how we used to see them.

Henry Cavill reprises his role as Superman/Clark Kent, with Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. Man Of Steel stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will also return. The film is set to open worldwide on May 6th, 2016.

Batman Vs. Superman Slips To From 2015 To Summer 2016

January 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

2015 is shaping up to be one hell of a year for gargantuan movies, with the likes of Avengers 2, Star Wars VII and Jurassic World, but now one of the biggest films has slipped out of 2015 and into 2016. Warner Bros. has announced that the release of Zack Snyder’s untitled Batman Vs. Superman film has moved from July 17, 2015 to May 6, 2016.

man-of-steel-promo-pic1The official reason is so that it will ‘allow the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story’. There are also reports that a leg injury to Ben Affleck, who’s set to play Batman, forced a delay to the shoot by a couple of months, putting even more pressure on the film.

Snyder’s Batman Vs. Superman film stars Henry Cavill, reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent, and Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. The film will also reunite Man of Steel stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, and also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. Zack Snyder will direct the film from a screenplay written by David S. Goyer.

Warner has already moved to put another movie into the July 17th, 2015 slot, which is when we’ll get Joe Wright’s as-yet-untitled all-new Peter Pan adventure.

Joaquin Phoenix May Be Batman vs. Superman’s Villain

December 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joaquin-PhoenixIn the last few years Joaquin Phoenix hasn’t been part of many big Hollywood movies – although it’s not clear if that’s because he doesn’t want to or whether the major studios are a bit wary of him. However now he’s being eyed for one of the biggest, as Variety reports that he’s been offered the villain role in Warner’s Batman Vs. Superman.

It’s not been revealed exactly which character Phoenix would play, although after teases in Man Of Steel, many have assumed that Lex Luthor will be a big part of the film. Luthor may still be in the background though and Joaquin could be someone else from the Batman or Superman universes.

At the moment it’s not known if Phoenix will take the role, but if he does he’ll be going up against Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill during summer 2015.

Jason Momoa Eyed for Batman Vs. Superman

December 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-momoaJason Momoa, best known for Conan The Barbarian and Game Of Thrones, is now in negotiations for the highly anticipated Batman Vs. Superman, according to THR. However at this stage it isn’t known who he will play.

If a deal is made, he will join Henry Cavill (Superman/Clark Kent), Ben Affleck (Batman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman).

Inevitably there are already rumours about who Momoa might be playing, with most of the speculation suggesting that the muscle-bound actor may be the villainous Doomsday or Martin Manhunter. Warner Bros. is now focussing on the Lex Luthor role, with the studio seeking African-American actors to play the iconic villain. It’s not believed Momoa will take this role, although it hasn’t been denied by the studio.

Gal Gadot To Be Wonder Woman in Batman vs. Superman

December 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gal-GadotThere have been many rumours that it won’t just be Batman and Superman in the follow-up to Man Of Steel, and that’s now been confirmed as Warner Bros. has announces that Fast & Furious star Gal Gadot has taken the role of Wonder Woman in the movie, which is tentatively titled Batman Vs. Superman.

Director Zack Snyder commented, “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal Gadot an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal Gadot in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

Batman Vs. Superman will feature the return of Henry Cavill as Superman, facing off against Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. It’s out summer 2015.

Ben Affleck’s Batman Will Be Tired and Weary In Man Of Steel 2

September 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleckWarner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara is having a busy time. Yesterday he helped announce an extension of the Harry Potter franchise, and now he’s been speaking at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference. During the speech, he got around to talking about Ben Affleck’s take on the Dark Knight in Man of Steel 2.

It certainly seems like they won’t be going over the character’s origins yet again, with Tsujihara saying,”[He will be] tired and weary and seasoned and [he’s] been doing it for awhile.

He also addres the casting of Ben Affleck, which caused a lot of controversy on the Internet when it was announced last month,”[He is] perfect. We think it’s going to be huge. [The studio] could not be happier. We think it’s the perfect springboard for Batman and Superman”

Kevin Tsujihara added that a lot of announcements are expected to come out of the DC Comics’ unit at Warner Bros soon, suggesting they’re finally trying to properly rival Marvel’s success on the big screen.

Ben Affleck’s Batman May Get A Love Interest For Man Of Steel 2

September 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-superman-comic-con-logoEver since it was officially announced Superman and Batman would team up (or at least share screen time) in the follow-up to Man Of Steel, there have been endless rumours flying around. Now there’s another one, this time from Latino Review, which suggests Zack Snyder is on the love interest for Batman in the movie.

A casting breakdown has apparently been circulated to talent agencies, which says, ‘They’re looking for someone in their late 20s and are open to all ethnicities…. They’re being very specific and looking for an actress who is both tall and possesses physicality.’

As with always in Hollywood, a guy in his 40s is getting a much younger love interest (it would be nice if Tinsel Town could at least pretend they cared about sexism). There’s no news on who the character will be, such as whether it’ll somebody like Vicky Vale, or a brand new character.

The film is due out in 2015.
