In the world of gay movies, it sometimes seems that everyone is pretty, skinny and in their early 20s (a complaint many make about gay culture generally), so it’s always nice to see a film that breaks that mould. And it’s perhaps even better when the movie is a sequel, showing there were enough people out there who wanted to see the first non-twinky instalment two make a part two.
The film is Bear City 2: The Proposal, which features a cast of burly and hairy fellows, as well as some more recognisable names like Kevin Smith, Kathy Najimy and Richard Riehle. Here’s the synopsis: ‘BearCity is a hirsute “Sex and the City,” following the funny, romantic, and occasionally dramatic adventures of a group of bears and cubs in New York City. The sequel, BearCity 2 follows our familiar characters and a few new ones as they head to Provincetown, MA for Bear Week!’
The film had its world premiere last night at Los Angeles’s John Anson Ford Amphitheatre as part of Outfest. It’ll hit San Francisco at the end of the month, but there’s no news at the moment on when we Brits might get to see it.
