For a while now, John Cusack has been attached to an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, Cell. Now he’s got some company, as THR reports that Samuel L. Jackson has signed up too.
The movie is about Clay Wheeler (John Cusack), a Boston artist who is trying to reunite with his son after a mysterious cell phone signal turns humans into vicious, zombie-type monsters. Samuel L. Jackson is playing Tom McCourt, an engineer and former soldier who flees from the city with Clay. In the novel, McCourt is a gay man, although it’s not known if that’s being ported over to the film, and that Jackson will therefore be playing gay.
Tod Williams (Paranormal Activity 2) will direct from a screenplay co-written by Stephen King and Adam Alleca (The Last House on the Left). Production is scheduled to begin in January, with the project currently being sold at the American Film Market.
