October 19, 2012 By Lewis Shepherd Leave a Comment

Starring: Jesse McCartney, Jonathan Sadowski, Olivia Dudley
Director: Bradley Parker
Running Time: 86 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 22nd 2012

The Chernobyl disaster happened back in 1986 and conspiracy theories surrounding the incident and the aftermath have been rife ever since. The surprising part about this is why a film such as this has never been made before.

Chernobyl Diaries follows a group of travellers as they venture into the land of extreme tourism, heading to the city abandoned and devastated by the disaster. Written by Oren Peli, who terrified most of the world with Paranormal Activity, you can’t help but feel a little let down by this film as it try’s to recreate what happened with the first Paranormal Activity film, but in the process becomes a typical mass of clichés. Men In Black III Tops Memorial Day US Box Office

May 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Avengers has finally been toppled from the top of the US box office, with Men In Black 3 taking $70 million over the Memorial Day weekend. It’s not quite the $75-$80 million that Sony was hoping for it’s not a bad start, and the studio certainly can’t be upset that worldwide the movie took just over $200 million, suggesting it’ll make back its hefty investment in the movie even if it doesn’t end up as profitable as the earlier films in the series.

The only other new entry in the top 10 is Chernobyl Diaries, which took a soft $9.3 million. Although not as much as some expected, as it’s a low budget flick, it could be worse.

Outside the top 10, Moonrise Kingdom got off to a great start, taking $669,000 on only four screens for an incredibly impressive per screen average of $167,000. It’s an incredibly good opening and suggests the Wes Anderson movie will do very well as it expands onto more screens over the coming week.

Chernobyl Diaries Trailer

March 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s odd that after the huge success of Paranormal Activity, we haven’t had another movie directed by Oren Peli. However he has been busy producing movies and he came up with the original story for Chernobyl Diaries, although Shane Van Dyke (grandson of Dick) wrote the script and Bradley Parker directs. The film follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme tour” guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone. No UK date is set, but it’s released in the US on May 25th.
