Creed (Blu-ray Review)

May 15, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Tony Bellew
Director: Ryan Coogler
Running Time: 133 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: May 16th 2016 (UK)

A few years ago, pretty much everyone thought the Rocky franchise was dead, and that any attempt to resurrect it would be a pointless, awful cash-in. However, 2006’s Rocky Balboa proved there might be a little life left, and now Creed is cashing in on that promise.

Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) is the illegitimate offspring of Apollo Creed, who’s been trapped in foster homes and juvenile detention until he’s given a chance by Apollo’s widow (Phylicia Rashad), who decides to take him in. She also points him towards someone else from her husband’s past, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), who reluctantly agrees to help train the young man and turn him into a boxer. [Read more…]

New Creed Trailer – The Rocky Saga gets a fresh start with Michael B. Jordan

September 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

creed-new-slideThe Rocky films are going in a new direction that could potentially spin-off into a franchise of its own with Creed, which follow he son of the famed Apollo Creed, who ends being coached by Rocky Balboa himself.

To give us a fresh taste, a new trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.

‘Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer. Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo—the fierce rival who became his closest friend. Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.

‘With Rocky in his corner, it isn’t long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title… but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?’

The movie will be in UK cinemas early next year. [Read more…]

Sylvester Stallone Is Back As Rocky In The First Pic From Creed

April 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

creed-pic1-slideFor the past few years Sylvester Stallone has shown he’s certainly not afraid to revisit past success, and for the most part it’s worked, with decent box office for the likes of Rocky Balboa and Rambo. Now he’s bringing his famed boxing creation back once more for a movie that has the potential to become a franchise in its own right, but carrying on without him.

Now Stallone has shared the first picture from Creed, with features the actor in the ring alongside Michael B. Jordan as Adonis, the son of Rocky’s former opponent Apollo Creed.

The movie is due out in November. [Read more…]

Sylvester Stallone Plans Rocky Spin-Off, Based Around Apollo Creed’s Grandson

July 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rocky-Apollo-CreedAfter 2006’s Rocky Balboa, you might have thought we’d seen the last of the franchise that shot Sylvester Stallone to superstardom in 1976. However, now a spin-off is planned, with Stallone teaming up with Fruitvale Station direction Ryan Coogler for Creed, according to Deadline.

Michael B. Jordan is in early talks to play the grandson of Apollo Creed, famously portrayed by Carl Weathers in the first four Rocky movies, and still probably Rocky’s greatest opponent. Stallone is also set to play Balboa once more, taking on the role for the seventh time.

The movie will be about Creed’s grandson, who was raised in the lap of luxury but still possesses a natural instinct for boxing. However, his family do not want him to pursue a career in the ring. Despite that Rocky Balboa, who is now out of the game and has no desire to return to boxing, agrees to step in and mentor the young man.

Ryan Coogler has said that this is a dream project for him and when his agent put him in touch with Stallone, the actor thankfully agreed. Coogler is currently co-writing the screenplay with Aaron Covington, and if everything works out, the film will reunite him with his Fruitvale Station star, Michael B. Jordan. There’s no news on when it might shoot.
