Fast & Furious 7 (DVD Review)

September 6, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez
Director: James Wan
Running Time: 131 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: Spetember 7th 2015 (UK)

If you’d told me a year ago that one of the Fast & Furious movies would make $1.5 billion at the box office and become the fifth highest grossing movie of all time, I would have laughed directly in your face. However, I’d be eating humble pie now, as that’s just what Fast & Furious 7 has done, helped by a record-breaking run in China.

I still have no idea why it did so well – not because it’s a dreadful movie, but simply because there’s it’s tough to understand why it was so stunningly successful. But then, I suppose it’s like McDonald’s – nobody would class it as genuinely great food, but it’s incredibly popular because it’s tasty and you know exactly what you’re going to get. [Read more…]

Fast & Furious 7 Extended Look – The car mad stars add skydiving to their resume

March 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fast-and-furious-7-pic2It’s only a few weeks until Fast & Furious 7 (which is just Furious 7 in the US) makes it bid to be the first massive hit of the summer season (yes, early April isn’t summer, but the blockbuster season starts earlier and earlier every year), Now to get us excited an extended look has been released.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Continuing the global exploits in the unstoppable franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of Fast & Furious 7. James Wan directs this chapter of the hugely successful series that also welcomes back favorites Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black.

‘They are joined by international action stars new to the franchise including Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey and Kurt Russell. Neal H. Moritz, Vin Diesel and Michael Fottrell return to produce the film written by Chris Morgan.’

New Fast & Furious 7 Trailer – Vin Diesel & Paul Walker defy physics

February 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fast-and-furious-7-pic2When we posted the Fast & Furious 7 Super Bowl spot, we commented that the action had reached the level of absolute fantasy. Indeed some shots looked like they were taking place in The Matrix. Now a new trailer has arrived which backs that up, with plenty more explosions and chases that completely ignore the laws of physics.

It’s all pretty spectacular though.

Fast & Furious 7 Super Bowl Spot – Car chases and explosions, what did you expect?

February 2, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Furious-7-poster1It’s not often they include the moment where a franchise may have completely jumped the shark in a trailer, but they may have done so with the Super Bowl spot for Fast & Furious 7 (known simply as Furious 7 in the US).

Two cars speed up in to bumper to bumper collision. Both drivers presumable survive but the impact is apparently so enormous that it blows out all the windows in the plate glass building behind them. Someone needs to give the filmmakers a quick lesson in physics.

But then, the franchise has never been that sensible, and just to ensure we don’t think this is going to be even vaguely realistic, there’s also a car jumping from skyscraper to skyscraper tens of stories up.

I do kind of wonder whether moving even further from a vague sense of reality is deliberate, as the film was always going to have difficulties if viewers felt even vague echoes of Paul Walker’s untimely death in a fiery car wreck, and so shifting further toward fantasy does make sense on that score.

Some will love it, but personally I can’t believe I just saw that. [Read more…]

Fast & Furious 7 Trailer – First look at Paul Walker’s action-packed final film

November 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Furious-7-poster1While the production of Fast & Furious 7 (known simply as Furious 7 in the US) was marked by tragedy with the death of Paul Walker, the first trailer suggests that the actual movie will be the car-based madness we’ve come to expect from the franchise.

Fast & Furious 7 Will Restart Shooting in April, Following The Death Of Paul Walker

February 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fast-and-furious-7-pic1When Paul Walker tragically died last November during a Thanksgiving break on the Fast & Furious 7 shoot, Universal Pictures was understandably forced to indefinitely shut down production on the movie.

They quickly decided they would keep Walker in the movie, using his performance that he’d filmed so far, but the script would therefore need extensive rewrites to accommodate this, with Walkers character being retired rather than killed off. Now THR reports that the movie is gearing up to resume shooting with the cast and crew planning to reunite close to Atlanta on or near April 1.

The shoot there is scheduled to last between six and eight weeks in Atlanta. It’s believed the movie will then continue to shoot in other locations – LA and Dubai have been mentioned.

The film is currently due for release April 10th, 2015.

Paul Walker Will Appear In Fast & Furious 7, As A New Release Date Is Set

December 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fast-and-furious-6-pic1After the tragic death of Paul Walker, it was quickly announced that Fast & Furious 7 would be delayed, although there were conflicting reports over whether the film would restart from scratch and remove Walker’s character, or if they would find some way to incorporate him, even though he hadn’t completed his scenes.

Now THR reports that Walker will indeed be in the movie, although there are no specific details on how this will be achieved.

Vin Diesel has also confirmed a new release date, saying that rather than a July 2014 release, it will be coming out April 10th, 2015, giving the movie time for rewrites and for the final scenes to be completed.

Diesel wrote on Facebook: “The last scene we filmed together…There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared… in the film we were now completing… the magic captured… and, in just how far we’ve come… Fast and Furious 7 will be released… April 10th 2015! P.s. He’d want you to know first…”

Fast & Furious 7 Understandably Gets Delayed Indefinitely Following Paul Walker’s Death

December 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

paul-walker-shirtless-davidoffFollowing the death of Paul Walker Universal Studios has had some difficult decisions to make about Fast & Furious. The movie was on a production break when Walker died, and there were also questions about whether it was appropriate if Walker does remain in the movie, whether his last film should be about racing fact cars.

Universal was quick to pledge a portion of the proceeds from the upcoming US home entertainment release of Fast & Furious 6 to a charity Walker co-founded. Now that have announced that they are officially halting production on Fast & Furious 7 indefinitely.

A statement from Universal says, “Right now, all of us at Universal are dedicated to providing support to Paul’s immediate family and our extended Fast & Furious family of cast, crew and filmmakers. At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on Fast & Furious 7 for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise. We are committed to keeping Fast & Furious fans informed, and we will provide further information to them when we have it. Until then, we know they join us in mourning the passing of our dear friend Paul Walker.”

There have been rumours that Universal is looking at whether Walker has filmed enough of the movie that he can still be part of the film, or whether a complete rewrite to retire his character will be needed.

Walker’s autopsy results have now confirmed that the actor died from a combination of traumatic and thermal injuries, meaning both the impact of the crash and the fire caused his death.

Lucas Black Returns To The Fast & Furious Franchise For Parts 7, 8 & 9

September 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lucas-blackWhen The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift was released in 2006, it seemed like Lucas Black was poised to take over the franchise. But when Paul Walker and Vin Diesel’s career didn’t take off quite as they’d hoped, they returned for the fourth film in the series and that was the last we’ve seen of Black’s Sean Boswell.

However now he’s returning, as Deadline says he’s won’t just be in Fast & Furious 7, he’ll also be in the planned parts 8 & 9 of the racing series.

Oddly enough, it actually makes sense that he wasn’t in the last three films, as Fast & Furious 4, 5 & 6 are all set before Tokyo Drift, but a post-credits scene in the most recent film shows that we’ve caught up to the events shown in the third movie, which allows Boswell’s return without breaking the continuity.

He joins a cast that includes franchise mainstays Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, along with new additions Jason Statham, Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa, Kurt Russell, Nathalie Emmanuel and Djimon Hounsou.

James Wan is directing from a screenplay by Chris Morgan. Filming has already begun.

Paul Walker & Vin Diesel Stare In The First Official Fast & Furious 7 Image

September 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fast-and-furious-7-pic1
Vin Diesel loves to share things with his fans on his Facebook page. He spent years keeping them up to date on Riddick and now he’s released the first image from Fast & Furious 7, which shows the actor alongside Paul Walker looking very serious by a lake.

There’s not been too much new on the plot, other than the film will return the series to LA, with Diesel and Walker going up against Jason Statham as Ian Shaw, the brother of Fast & Furious 6 villain, Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). New cast additions for the franchise include UFC fighter Ronda Rousey, martial artist Tony Jaa, Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel, Djimon Hounsou and Kurt Russell, with returning actors including Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Dwayne Johnson and Jordana Brewster.

James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious Chapter 2) is directing from a screenplay by Chris Morgan. The film starts shooting later this year for release July 11th, 2014
