New Hercules Trailer – Fresh look at the Dwayne Johnson action flick

June 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We’ve already had one Hercules movie this year, but it didn’t make much of a dent at the box office, leaving things wide open for this one, which stars Dwayne Johnson.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Paramount and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ film HERCULES, starring Dwayne Johnson, bows on July 25. Based on Radical Comics’ ‘Hercules,’ this ensemble-action film, featuring an international cast, is a revisionist take on the classic myth set in a grounded world where the supernatural does not exist. HERCULES also stars Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and John Hurt.

The Brett Ratner directed movie will be out in UK cinemas on July 25th. [Read more…]

Hercules Trailer – Plus a poster for the all-action Dwayne Johnson flick

March 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Yesterday Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules got a couple of new images. Well it turns out they were just paving the way for a trailer and poster, which has now shown up online, and which you can see above and below.

It certainly looks better than this year’s other Hercules movie, starring Kellan Lutz, but it remains to be seen just how good it is, especially as it can’t quite seem to decide whether it wants to follow the myths or not.

The Brett Ratner directed movie will be out in cinemas this summer. [Read more…]

Dwayne Johnson Gets Shirtless In New Hercules Photos

March 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In early 2014, it’s Kellan Lutz who’s been Hercules, but come summer we’ve got another take on the legend, with Dwayne Johnson taking on the role and Brett Ratner directing. Now USA Today has released a couple of stills from the movie, which show The Rock in action mode.

Is it just us, or does the shirtless one above look like it could have fallen out of a gay porn vid. You just need another guy stood behind him.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend…

‘Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.’

Joseph Fiennes, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Rebecca Ferguson, Aksel Hennie and John Hurt co-star. It’ll be in cinemas this July (and a trailer is promised soon).

Dwayne Johnson Releases New Hercules Set Pic

July 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dwayne Johnson is always keen to keep his fans up to date with what he’s up to, and that continues now he’s shooting Hercules: The Thracian Wars. He’s tweeted a new image from the set, along with the message ‘Our HERCULES set created by award winning designer Jean-Vincent Puzos w/ great detail. I sit in awe.. #ThracianWars’.

Johnson has certainly got some nice flowing locks for the movie. The project is based on Steve Moore’s Radical Publishing ‘revisionist’ graphic novel, Hercules: The Thracian Wars. As you’d expect, it’s all about the title character (Dwayne Johnson), who fights other people’s battles for money, along with his group of mercenaries. He finds a higher calling when he defends the mythical Mount Olympus from an evil army.

Brett Ratner directs, with the film due for release July 2014.

Joe Anderson Joins Dwayne Johnson In Hercules

June 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

joe-andersonBritish actor Joe Anderson is one of those people many have expected to break into the big time, but despite roles in Across The Universe, The Grey, The Crazies and Breaking Dawn Part 2, it hasn’t ever fully happened for him. However now he’s got another high profile role, as Variety reports that he’s joined the cast of Brett Ratner’s Hercules.

The film is based on the Radical Publishing graphic novel that takes a different approach to the Greek god, taking out many of the supernatural elements. Instead of being the son of Zeus, Hercules is a fierce mortal who is feared by many. When he leads his group of mercenaries on their latest mission, the job turns out to be much more complicated that previously imagined.

Dwayne Johnson is set for the title roles, with the likes of Ian McShane, John Hurt, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Aksel Hennie, Tobias Santelmann, Rebecca Ferguson and Ingrid Bolso Berdal also set to star. Anderson will play a marathon runner who sneaks around and brings news of enemy movements to Hercules and his crew.

Filming has already started in Budapest, with a July 25th 2014 release set. Before then we’ll be able to see Anderson starring opposite Daniel Radcliffe in Horns.

Ian McShane, John Hurt and Joseph Fiennes Up For Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules

March 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

IAN-MCSHANEBrett Ratner is fast putting the cast together for Hercules, which has Dwayne Johnson attached to the title role, with Rufus Sewell and Aksel Hennie recently joining him. Now THR reports they’ve got more company as Ian McShane, John Hurt, Joseph Fiennes and Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson have signed up.

McShane is playing Amphiarus, a priest, prophet, and warrior who serves as Hercules’ adviser.  It hasn’t been revealed who John Hurt, Joseph Fiennes and Rebecca Ferguson will play.

Brett Ratner is directing from a screenplay originally written by Ryan Condal (Paradise Lost), which is being polished by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Wanted 2). It’s expected to start shooting in the next few months.

Headhunters Star Aksel Hennie Joins Dwayne Johnson In Hercules

February 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

headhunters-slideBrett Ratner and Dwayne Johnson have been busy developing a new take on the legends of Hercules, and now it’s at the stage where they’re trying to fill out the rest of the class, with THR reporting that Headhunters stars Aksel Hennie has signed on to the movie.

The Norwegian actor will play Tydeus, Hercules’ right-hand man who ‘wields twin axes and is such a madman that he needs to be chained up at night when he sleeps.’

The film is based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars by Steve Moore and Admira Wijaya, which ignores the supernatural parts of the Greek myths, instead trying to give things a more grounded, real-world feel. Ryan Condal wrote the script.

It’s not known exactly when it will shoot, but a release date of August 8th, 2014 is already set. Hennie recently made his English-language debut in The Last Knights, alongside Morgan Freeman and Clive Owen.

Dwayne Johnson Lines Up Ciudad And Gets Confirmed For Hercules

March 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Remember when Dwayne Johnson was just a wrestler known as The Rock? Well, that was a long time ago, as he’s now one of the most ridiculously busy actors around, and just to prove that, he’s added another couple of roles to his line-up.

Deadline reports that Johnson has joined the cast of Ciudad, the long-gestating graphic novel adaptation, which is finally moving forward at Emmett/Furla Films. Directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo have been working on the movie since September 2008, based on the graphic novel they wrote with Ande Parks. It centres on a mercenary (Johnson) who is hired to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a Brazilian drug lord.

A couple of weeks ago, there were also reports Johnson was in talks to join Brett Ratner’s greek mythology epic, Hercules: The Thracian War, and Variety confirms he’s signed a deal to make the movie.

Hercules: The Thracian Wars is also based on a graphic novel of the same name, this one written by Steve Moore. It follows Hercules (Dwayne Johnson), who trains the Thracian army to be ruthless killers. Filming is scheduled to begin in New Zealand this October.

February 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If there’s one man in Hollywood who looks like he could take on some literally herculean tasks it’s Dwayne Johnson, and director Brett Ratner obviously thinks the same, as Johnson is now in talks for Ratner’s planned take on the legend of Hercules for MGM, accoridng to Variety.

The film will be based on Steve Moore graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian War, with Ryan Condol set to adapt the screenplay. The action finds Hercules roaming the earth, amassing a small group of mercenaries to fight other people’s wars for pay. He eventually finds himself defending Olympus from an army of the damned.

There is no shooting date for Hercules, and with Johnson already having a lot on his plate, it may not be able to go for a while yet.
