Final King Arthur: Legend of the Sword Trailer – Charlie Hunnam takes on the legendary tale

April 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While it looked for a while like Warner Bros. thought they had a flop with King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword and were going to dump the movie in a graveyard slot, they seem to have warmed to the movie. It’s now getting a prime May release date, and the hype is growing with the release of a new trailer.

Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Jude Law and Eric Bana star in the movie, which will follow the King in ‘an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.”

The movie is set for release in May. The movie was originally set to be the start of a whole Knights Of The Roundtable franchise, with each movie focussing on a different knight. At the moment that’s been put on the backburner, but expect it to be resurrected if Legend Of The Sword is a success. [Read more…]

New King Arthur: Legend of the Sword Trailer – Charlie Hunnam takes on the legendary tale

January 23, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Back during Comic Con we got the first trailer for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and while it didn’t look as bad as some of the rumours said it might, it did look like it might be a bit silly and cheesy. However, a new promo has arrived which is much more intriguing, upping the fantasy elements and suggesting that Guy Ritchie’s attempt to do to King Arthur what he did to Sherlock Holmes – mixing modern sentiment and action with historical tales – might actually work quite well.

Charlie Hunnam Gets A New King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword Poster

January 22, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The signs for King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword haven’t been great, with title changes and the release date being pushed back several time. However, the one bright spot is that while it initially looked like Warner might try to bury the movie with a spring graveyard release, it’s now been pushed into the major summer season with a May release set.

To help get us prepared, a new poster featuring Charlie Hunnam as King Arthur has arrived.

Here’s the movie’s synopsis: ‘Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne.

‘When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.

‘Starring with Hunnam (FX’s “Sons of Anarchy”) and Oscar nominee Law (“Cold Mountain,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley”) are Astrid Bergès-Frisbey (“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”) as Mage; Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond,” “In America”) as Bedivere; Aidan Gillen (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”) as Goosefat Bill; and Eric Bana (“Star Trek”) as Arthur’s father, King Uther Pendragon.’

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword Comic-Con Trailer – Charlie Hunnam takes on the legendary tale

July 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

king-arthur-legends-of-the-sword-poster-slideGuy Ritchie seems to be doing to King Arthur what he did to Sherlock Holmes – mixing modern sentiment and action with historical tales, for something that’s not quite like anything you’d expect. A Comic-Con trailer has been released that gives us our best look so far.

Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Jude Law and Eric Bana star in the movie. It’s set for release next March (following a bit of a delay, as it was originally coming this summer).

Take a look at the pretty cool trailer below. Hunnam might actually make a better King Arthur than many originally thought her would. [Read more…]

New Look At Charlie Hunnam & Jude Law In King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

July 17, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

king-arthur-1When it was first announced, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur was supposed to be the start of a massive interconnected franchise based around the Knights Of The Round Table. However, it looks like they’re hedging their after moving it all around the release schedule and then changing the name to King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword.

That doesn’t mean it’ll be a disaster but does suggest they perhaps don’t have as much faith in it as they once did – especially as we’ve heard fairly little about it in the last year. However, now a couple of new images have been released via EW.

They show a bruised and battered looking Arthur (Charlie Hunnam), who tells EW of his character, ‘He’s a bit rough around the edges, but he’s basically a survivor. There’s definitely a harder edge than people would imagine.’

There’s also a show of Jude Law as the villainous Vortigern, which you can see below. The movie is currently due out next March.

Crush Of The Day: Charlie Hunnam Gets Out His Sword In First Look At Him As King Arthur

July 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

charlie-hunnam-king-arthur-ew7-slideCharlie Hunnam may have dropped out of the lead role in Fifty Shades Of Grey, but that wasn’t the only major movie he’s been up for, as next year he’ll be taking the title role in Guy Ritchie’s, Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, which is the first part of a planned major franchise.

Now our first look at him in character has arrived thanks to a photoshoot for EW, where he gets out his sword and is looking very good indeed.

Of his character, Hunnam says, “He’s a little bit rough around the edges, but he’s basically a survivor. He’s a hustler. He’s a street kid. There’s definitely a harder edge to him than people would imagine. It’s sort of classic Guy Ritchie stuff.”

In the past thought Arthurian legends on screen have had a bit of a checkered history. Ritchie is hoping to change this, saying, “I think where the pitfall has often been is trying to make King Arthur bland and nice, and nice and bland. The two qualities make rather compatible bed companions. Unfortunately, they’re not interesting to watch. Luke Skywalker was always the most uninteresting character in Star Wars because he’s the good guy. Good guys are boring.”

Take a look at the great pics of Charlie below, and you’ll be able to see the film on July 22nd, 2016. [Read more…]

First Look At Charlie Hunnam As King Arthur In Guy Ritchie’s Knights Of The Roundtable

March 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

knight-of-the-roundtable-set-photo1-slideFor several years an endless array of King Arthur movies have been in development but got cancelled before they made it in front of the cameras. Now one has passed that milestone as Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur is on set and to prove it, the director tweeted a pic of him ready for the shoot alongside his Arthur, Charlie Hunnam.

The film is the start of an ambitious franchise which, if it works out, will include at least six films, each concentrating on a different member of the Round Table.

We now have a few more details on the first film, with the official synopsis reading, ‘The bold new story introduces a streetwise young Arthur who runs the back alleys of Londonium with his gang, unaware of the life he was born for until he grasps hold of the sword Excalibur—and with it, his future. Instantly challenged by the power of Excalibur, Arthur is forced to make some hard choices. Throwing in with the Resistance and a mysterious young woman named Guinevere, he must learn to master the sword, face down his demons and unite the people to defeat the tyrant Vortigern, who stole his crown and murdered his parents, and become King.’

Alongside Hunnam are Astrid Bergès-Frisbey as Guinevere; Jude Law as villainous Vortigern; Eric Bana as Arthur’s dad Uther Pendragon; Djimon Hounsou as Resistance leader Bedivere; and Aidan Gillen as Goosefat Bill. The movie is due out July 22, 2016. [Read more…]

Eric Bana Will Be Charlie Hunnam’s Father In Knights of the Round Table

February 12, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eric-bana-slideGuy Ritchie’s take on the legends of King Arthur – Knights Of The Round Table – is slowly coming together, and now one more member had signed up, with Variety reporting that Eric Bana will play Arthur’s father, Uther.

He joins Charlie Hunnam as King Arthur, Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinevere, Djimon Hounsou in negotiations to play a character the king’s Merlin-like mentor Bedivere, and Jude Law playing the villain.

Joby Harold (Edge of Tomorrow) wrote the script, which is the first part of a planned six-movie franchise, which presumably will concentrate on different knights surrounding Arthur with each film. There’s still no news on the exact plot and direction the first movie will take.

Warner Bros. has had been trying to make an Arthurian movie for years. Indeed Ritchie was previously attached to a completely different King Arthur movie, which was written by John Hodge (Trainspotting). Another project, Arthur & Lancelot, even got to the point where Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) had been hired for the lead roles and the sets were ready to be built. However the studio backed out just a few weeks before production was due to begin.

Hopefully they won’t get cold feet with this version, which already has a July 22nd, 2016 release date set.

Jude Law Will Be Knights Of The Round Table’s Villain Opposite Charlie Hunnam’s Arthur

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jude-lawIt appears there’s going to be a bit of a Sherlock Holmes reunion, as Variety reports that Jude Law is likely to reunite with director Guy Ritchie for Knights Of The Round Table: King Arthur. However he won’t be on the good guy side this time, as he’s apparently up to play the villain.

There’s no news on exactly who Law will play. The hope is that this will be the first part of a six-film series, so Law could be in line to play a baddie just in this movie, or a threat that will be present throughout the franchise. If he’s the latter he will presumably be the traitor Mordred.

Charlie Hunnam is set to play Arthur, with Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinevere. Sadly while Idris Elba was previously attached to play Arthur’s mentor, he’s apparently no longer involved.

The plan is to shoot early next year, with a July 22nd, 2016 release planned.
