Channing Tatum Wants You To Look At His Crotch In The First Magic Mike XXL Poster

February 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Magic-Mike-XXL-poster1Channing Tatum and the other stripper boys are back this summer with Magic Mike XXL, and now the first poster is here, inviting us to take a long, hard look at Tatum’s crotch, which offers all the information.

We’ve also now got the best synopsis yet, for what Tatum has described as being a road trip movie. Here it is: ‘“Magic Mike” stars Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias are reuniting for the hotly anticipated sequel “Magic Mike XXL”. Joining the returning cast, in brand new roles, will be Elizabeth Banks (“The Hunger Games” franchise), Donald Glover (“Community”), Amber Heard (“The Rum Diary”), Andie MacDowell (“Footloose”), Jada Pinkett Smith (“Gotham”) and Michael Strahan (“Live with Kelly and Michael”).

‘The new film will be directed and produced by Emmy Award winner Gregory Jacobs (“Behind the Candelabra”), who served as a producer on “Magic Mike,” as well as numerous features in a long-running collaboration with Steven Soderbergh. “Magic Mike XXL” also reunites “Magic Mike” producers Nick Wechsler, Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin, with a screenplay by Carolin. Steven Soderbergh, who directed the first film, will executive produce.

‘Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, “Magic Mike XXL” finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.’

Hopefully the arrival of a poster means a trailer is on its way. It’s due in UK cinemas July 31st.

September 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

elizabeth-banksMagic Mike XXL has now officially started shooting (it actually began filming a few weeks ago but that was just preparatory work), and with that comes an official announcement including info on new cast members and a bit more info on the plot.

Channing Tatum, Matthew Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias will all return, with some great names joining the ensemble for new roles, including Elizabeth Banks, Donald Glover, Amber Heard, Andie MacDowell, Jada Pinkett Smith and Michael Strahan.

Here’s the new info on the plot: ‘Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, Magic Mike XXL finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel.

Gregory Jacobs is directing from a script by Tatum and Reid Carolin. It’ll be in cinemas July 2015.

No Matthew McConaughey In Magic Mike XXL, But Andie McDowell Is In

September 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Second unit filming started a few days ago on Magic Mike XXL, but even with the cameras starting to roll, it wasn’t clear which members of the original cast would return beyond Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello and probably Matt Bomer and Alex Pettyfer too.

However ThePlaylist has been talking to director Gregory Jacobs, who says one person who won’t be back is Matthew McConaughey, although no reason is given as to why.

Jacobs also says that the new film with be very different to the first one, adding, “What am I allowed to say? … It’s road trip movie and put it this way, it’s different enough that once you see it you’ll understand why we made a sequel. No one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice.”

The film does have a new cast member though, as Variety reports that Andie McDowell has signed up. Unfortunately though, as with the vague plot details Jacobs offered above, there’s no news on who she will play.

Channing Tatum & The Male Strippers Are Back As Magic Mike XXL Starts Shooting

September 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

magic-mike-new-slide‘It’s ON!’

Those are the words of Steven Soderbergh as he announced the start of shooting on Magic Mike XXL with a tweeted picture of the movie’s clapperboard, which you can see below.

You might be wondering what Soderbergh is doing there, seeing as he’s ‘retired’ from directing and has passed the helming reins for the male stripper sequel to his longtime Assistant Director, Gregory Jacobs. Unusually Steven’s not just there for moral support, but as one of the staff. The cinematographer’s name on the clapperboard, Peter Andrews, is a pseudonym for Soderbergh, and he will also edit the movie.

But while the shoot has started, there are still plenty of unanswered questions. For a start we don’t know much about the plot, other than what Channing Tatum told MTV a few months ago when he said, “This one will be a road trip movie. Without giving a lot away, we don’t wanna make it a really serious, slice-of-life movie. We want to have reality in it, but we don’t want to make it some dark drama. There was some darkness in the last one that I think surprised people and shocked people. This one, we want there to be a lot of conflict and a lot of struggle, but we also want there to be a shit-ton of fun. A shit-ton of just ridiculous stuff that you would never see in a movie.”

Tatum and Joe Manganiello are both definitely back, and while it’s previously been suggested Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer and Matthew McConaughey were also likely to reprise their roles in one way or another, they’ve still not been officially announced.

Channing also co-wrote the movie alongside collaborator Reid Carolin. The film’s due out July 2015. [Read more…]
