Tom Hanks Wants To Be Channing Tatum’s Lover In The Remake Of Splash

October 27, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hanksI think it’s safe to say that he wasn’t being 100% serious, but Tom Hanks has said he’s very happy with the idea of remaking Splash, and if they do, he should appear in it and play Channing Tatum’s boyfriend. It was revealed back in August that Tatum is attached to a gender swapped remake of Splash, where he will be a merman, with his 22 Jump Street co-star Jillian Bell in the equivalent to Hanks’ human role in the 1984 original.

However, Hanks has a different idea, where he’ll steal Tatum from Bell.

Talking to AP at the US premiere of Inferno about whether he’d be willing to play Allen Bauer in the remake, he said, “No one asked me! I’m all in favor of it. Why not? That’s fine! I figure if they were really going to be bold, I would come back as Allen Bauer, and I would go off with Channing Tatum. That would be a bold movie, and I am suggesting it right now. Put THAT on your APwire.”

While I think it’s unlikely we’ll see Tatum and Hanks running off together, it certainly seems like he’d entertain the idea of making an appearance in the new version of Splash (and perhaps they can bring Darryl Hannah back). The movie may also retain the original director, Ron Howard (who also, of course, directed Hanks in Inferno), but he’s waiting to see the script and schedule before he decides.

Channing Tatum Is Turning Merman For A Remake Of Splash

August 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

channing-tatumFans of Channing Tatum with his shirt off should rejoice, as Deadline reports that he is attached to one of the lead roles in the planned remake of the 1984 hit movie Splash. His 22 Jump Street co-star Jillian Bell has also signed on.

In the original movie Tom Hanks played a man who was rescued by a mermaid (Darryl Hannah) as a child and then again as an adult, although he isn’t aware that’s what happened. She decides to search for him on land (her tail becomes legs once its dried), but after they meet and begin to fall for one another, her secret threatens to come out, especially as her tail will reappear if she gets wet..

For the remake there’s a gender role-reversal, with Tatum as the part-fish part-human, and Bell as the human. It’s not clear how the plot might differ otherwise. Marja-Lewis Ryan is set to write the script.
