James Marsden Talks The Best Of Me, Wanting To Do Musicals & Growing Up In Oklahoma

February 10, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

james-marsden-the-best-of-meWho can forget The Notebook, a weepie that remains a firm favourite with lovers of romantic movies? James Marsden lost Rachel McAdams to Ryan Gosling in that 2004 gem but he has a second shot at romance with The Best of Me, another Nicholas Sparks adaptation, co-starring Michelle Monaghan. Here he chats about starring in the movie…

The Best of Me isn’t your first Nicholas Sparks movie. What is the appeal of his stories? Is it the human element after doing super hero films?
When I make my decisions about what roles I take, I have the tendency to jump all over the place and that is what makes it interesting for me. I don’t feel like I have done something like this since The Notebook. You also want to be aware of what type of films audiences like to go see. I guess part of me thinks there is a group of people out there that likes seeing me in this kind of role. That plays into the decision making a little bit. Beyond that, these themes are never out of style. These types of films are always something that people want to go see. [Read more…]

The Best Of Me Trailer – James Marsden gets a Nicholas Sparks adaptation

June 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paul Walker was due to join the likes of Zac Efron, Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum and Josh Duhamel as the male star of a Nicholas Sparks adaptation. However his death sadly prevented that. Instead he was replaced by the James Marsden and we get our first taste of how well he’s done with it thanks to this trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the bestselling novel by acclaimed author Nicholas Sparks, The Best of Me tells the story of Dawson (Marsden) and Amanda (Michelle Monaghan), two former high school sweethearts who find themselves reunited after 20 years apart, when they return to their small town for the funeral of a beloved friend. Their bittersweet reunion reignites the love they’ve never forgotten, but soon they discover the forces that drove them apart twenty years ago live on, posing even more serious threats today. Spanning decades, this epic love story captures the enduring power of our first true love, and the wrenching choices we face when confronted with elusive second chances.’

It’s not Marsden’s first trip to Sparks-town, as he also had a bit part in The Notebook, but here he gets to take centre stage. The Best of Me is due this autumn. [Read more…]

Films Find Replacements For The Late Paul Walker In The Form Of James Marsden & Rupert Friend

January 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-marsdenWhile Paul Walker was best known for the Fast & Furious, he also had a few other films lined up, two of which have now decided it is time to find a replacement, with Deadline reporting James Marsden is likely to take Walker place in The Best Of Me, while Rupert Friend is in talks for Agent 47, according to TheWrap.

The Best of Me is adapted from Nicholas Sparks’ novel, which follows two high school sweethearts, Dawson Cole and Amanda Collier, who reunite 25 years later at the funeral of their friend. James Marsden has been offered the role of Dawson, with Michelle Monaghan portraying Amanda. Michael Hoffman will direct. The film was due for an October 2014 release, but that may shift due to Walker’s death.

Agent 47 is the planned reboot based of the Hitman videogame series, which previously became a movie starring Timothy Olyphant in 2007. In the game, Agent 47 is an assassin with a barcode tattoo on the back of his head. Friend has previously appeared in Pride & Prejudice, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and The Young Victoria, and more recently has been starring in Homeland. Aleksander Bach is making his feature directorial debut with the movie. It isn’t known when it might shoot.
