Abigail Breslin Joins Halle Berry In The Hive

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Believe it or not, but Oscar-nominee Abigail Breslin is nearly 16-years-old (yep, Little Miss Sunshine was nearly seven years ago now!). However she’s still one of the best young actresses around and she’s now boarded the thriller, The Hive, joining Halle Berry who signed up for Brad Anderson’s movie earlier this month.

The film is about an emergency call centre operator who is forced to confront a killer from her past in order to save a young girl’s life. Halle Berry is playing the 911 operator while Breslin will be the endangered girl. The project is based on an original idea by writers Richard D’Ovidio, Nicole D’Ovidio, and Jon Bokencamp.

Director Brad Anderson commented on the latest casting, “Abigail is always wonderful playing vulnerable characters so I feel really lucky to have her for this role.” (Source: Variety)

Halle Berry Enters The Hive

March 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We haven’t seen a massive amount of Halle Berry for the last few years, but now she’s getting busy again with new acting roles and according to Variety has joined the cast of The Hive for director Brad Anderson.

The thriller is set in a 911 emergency call centre and focuses on Berry’s character, a 911 operator who tries to save a teenage girl from a serial killer, even if it means she must face her own fears in the process (people in movies always have their own fears to face, after all). Back in April, Joel Schumacher was set to direct, although he later dropped out. Brad Anderson (The Machinist, Transsiberian) has since taken over, directing from a script by Richard D’Ovidio (13 Ghosts).

Shooting will begin this summer in Los Angeles.

Brad Anderson Flies To The Hive

January 4, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Once upon a time Joel Schumacher was a major director who could get pretty much any project financed, but now he can barely get an indie movie made or stay with a film long enough to get it shot. According to Variety, he’s been dropped from another one, as Brad Anderson, best known for directing Session 9 and The Machinist, has replaced Schumacher at the helm of The Hive.

The film is about a 911 operator who works to save a girl from a serial killer and must face her own fears in the process. When it was first announced, it sounded like the sort of thing Phone Booth director Schumacher could handle, but Anderson is definitely a step up.

Screenwriter Rich D’Ovidio, whose previous work includes Thir13en Ghosts and Exit Wounds, wrote the script and while Halle Berry was originally attached to star, she’s been forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Other top actresses are now being looked at, but it isn’t known who’s in the frame.

Production on the film is scheduled to begin this spring.
