Jon Favreau Joins Wolf of Wall Street

July 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jon Favreau may be a much in-demand director but he hasn’t given up acting, and now Deadline reports that he has signed on for a role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

Favreau will play a securities lawyer, although no further character details are known. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Jordan Belfort, a Long Island stock broker who made millions selling phony stocks in the 1980s. The story is adapted from Belfort’s memoir, which chronicles his rise and fall, including his bouts of substance abuse. Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal, and Rob Reiner also star.

Martin Scorsese is directing from an adapted screenplay by Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire). Production is scheduled to begin next month in New York City.

Rob Reiner On For Wolf Of Wall Street

June 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nowadays Rob Reiner is best known as the director of Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally and This Is Spinal Tap, but he started out as an actor, most famously on the sitcom All In The Family. Now he’s getting back in front of the camera, as Variety reports he’s in talks for Martin Scorsese’s financial drama, The Wolf of Wall Street.

Assuming a deal is finalised, Reiner will play Max Belfort, the father of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Jordan Belfort. Based on Jordan’s memoirs, the story follows the ups and downs of Belfort’s tumultuous run as a fraudulent stock broker in Long Island. The biopic will also focus on his personal demons, including addictions to drugs and alcohol, before he was locked up on securities fraud charges for 20 months.

Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Margot Robbie, and Jon Bernthal also star. Martin Scorsese is directing from an adapted screenplay by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, based on Belfort’s 2008 memoir. Shooting is set to start this August in New York City.

John Bernthal is one of those people who pops up in all sorts of stuff, even though his name isn’t that well known – although he’s certainly recognisable to the many fans of The Walking Dead. He has now joined the growing cast of Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, according to Variety.

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Jordan Belfort, a Long Island stock broker who defrauded millions of dollars from investors before he was caught and sentenced to 20 months in prison. The story also chronicles his rocky personal life, substance addictions and hard-partying 80s lifestyle. Jon Bernthal will play a drug dealer and money launderer. Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, and Margot Robbie also star.

Margot Robbie & Cristin Milioti Up For The Wolf Of Wall Street

June 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Leonardo DiCaprio is getting a couple of wives, on-screen at least, as Broadway actress Cristin Milioti is in talks to play his first wife in The Wolf of Wall Street, while Pan Am star Margot Robbie is negotiating for the female lead, the second spouse.

The story, based on Jordan Belfort’s memoirs, chronicles his life as a phony stockbroker, who swindled millions out of investors before being caught. The adaptation also deals with his rocky personal life and addictions to drugs and alcohol. Jonah Hill and Kyle Chandler also star.

Robbie will play Nadine, the current wife of DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort, while the lesser known Milioti will be the first wife, a hairdresser who was devoted to her husband, until he started to have affairs.

Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire) wrote the screenplay for Martin Scorsese to direct. Production is scheduled to begin this August in New York City. (Source: Variety)

June 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While he may have been silent in The Artist – and won a Best Actor Oscar for it – Jean Dujardin is set to prove that he can talk, as Variety reports that he’s in talks to star in The Wolf of Wall Street for director Martin Scorsese.

Leonardo DiCaprio is set to play Jordan Belfort (the film is based on Belfort’s memoirs), who made millions as a fraudulent stockbroker. The story follows his meteoric rise and hard-partying lifestyle, before he was eventually caught and sentenced to 20 months in jail for securities fraud. Jean Dujardin will be a Swiss banker who laundered money for Belfort. Jonah Hill is also onboard as Belfort’s best friend, which Kyle Chandler is portraying the FBI agent who busts him.

Martin Scorsese is directing from a screenplay by Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire), adapted from Belfort’s autobiography. Filming will begin this August in New York City.

Kyle Chandler Boards Scorsese’s Wolf Of Wall Street

May 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the shoot scheduled for this summer, Martin Scorsese is busy filling out the cast of The Wolf of Wall Street. He’s already got Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill onboard, and now Deadline reports that Kyle Chandler has signed on too.

His downfall is precipitous, as he spent 22 months in jail before straightening out his life.

A couple of weeks ago Martin Scorsese announced that the long-gestating Wolf Of Wall Street would be his next movie, and now she’s busy filling out the cast ahead on a summer shoot. Variety reports that Jonah Hill has entered into negotiations to join the movie, which Leo DiCaprio is already set to star in.

The drama is based on the autobiography of Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), who made millions as a fraudulent stock broker operating out of Long Island. He spent 20 months in prison for his role in a massive securities fraud that involved widespread Wall Street corruption.

Hill will play Danny Porush, Belfort’s best friend who convinced him to quit his menial job as a furniture salesman and become a stock broker. The true story also served as the inspiration for the 2000 financial drama Boiler Room.

DiCaprio & Scorsese Confirmed For Wolf Of Wall Street

April 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Martin Scorsese has been flirting with The Wolf of Wall Street for years, with the project often seeming close to being his next movie, before he moves on to something else. However now it appears he’s finally going to make it, as Variety reports Scorsese is now locked in, with Leonardo DiCaprio starring and a plan to start shooting this summer.

Based on Jordan Belfort’s best-selling memoir The Wolf of Wall Street, DiCaprio will play Belfort, looking at his dramatic rise and fall on Wall Street, along with his hard-partying lifestyle and tumultuous personal life, which included drug and alcohol addiction. Terence Winter (The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire) wrote the screenplay.

Production on The Wolf of Wall Street is slated to begin in August in New York. It’ll be Scorsese and DiCaprio’s fifth movie together.

Scorsese & DiCaprio Move Forward With Wolf Of Wall Street

March 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After every new Martin Scorsese movie the internet likes to play a game called ‘What will Martin make next?’. Scorsese even seems to like to join in with this, as one moment he favours one project, and the next a different one seems to be the one he’ll move forward with, but as he likes to keep numerous projects in development, often for years, it’s tough to know which one he’ll actually shoot until he makes an official announcement.

However it appears we may now know which film Scorsese will go for, as Variety reports he’s in official talks to direct The Wolf Of Wall Street, with an August shoot date already pencilled in. Leonardo DiCaprio has long been attached to the project, and has been working on getting Scorsese to direct (the project will be their fifth collaboration), with Martin coming and going from the project, and nearly making it several times before moving on to something else.

Now it seems Scorsese is keen to finally make the film, which is an adaptation of Jordan Belfort’s memoir about 1990s stockbroker decadence. The Wolf Of Wall Street is said to be funny, dramatic and fast paced, and makes a sympathetic character out of a stockbroker who supervises a cadre of brokers who squeezed clients to buy stocks that paid off – for the brokers at least – who used the funds to live extravagantly until they were brought down by the feds.

It was believed Silence might be next for Scorsese, but it seems Wolf Of Wall Street has now taken precedent.
