#NoHomo Episode 1 – Two straight guys discover it’s tough pretending to be gay in the new web series

September 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nohomo-ep1-slideWould it work for straight men to pretend to be gay in order to try and pick up women? Although it’s easy to see a few big problems with this, there is a kid of logic for the more devious straight guy, who doesn’t mind trying to find a way to get a woman to let her guard down before pouncing.

That’s the premise for the new web series, #NoHomo, which has just launched its pilot episode.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘#NoHomo is a Youtube Original Comedic Series about two straight men that pose as gay men to trick girls into sex, but when their plan fails the seek guidance from the ghost of Liberace to unlock their inner gay.

‘By reversing the roles of fitting into heteronormative society, the show is a parody of the stereotypes that plague the LGBT community and boasts a strong message, we are more successful when we are ourselves.’

The show, created by Nelson Moses Lassiter, follows Tyler and Skyler – played by very handsome models, Christian Plauche and Matthew Egan – who find themselves challenging their concepts of human sexuality more than they expected.

Take a look at the pilot episode of the eight-part series below. [Read more…]

Friday, A Web Series About Being Gay & Deaf, Launches Its Pilot Episode Alongside A Funding Campaign

September 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

friday-web-seriesGay web series have gone beyond solely being about what it is to be gay, and recently there’s been a great interest in exploring the intersectionality of different identities, including LGBT ones. Fridays follows in that vein, as it’s about two deaf characters, who communicate using American Language, and one of them is gay.

The Pilot episode has now been released, and alongside that a Kickstarter campaign has launched, which hopes to raise at least $6,000 in order to get the rest of the first season made.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Fridays is a web series about best friends Kate and Michael, who live in Los Angeles and have just undergone huge life changes: Kate is newly married and Michael is newly single.

‘The main characters are deaf and communicate in American Signed Language (ASL), with subtitles for people who don’t know sign language. Kate and Michael are two deaf people who live in a hearing world, to comic, tragic, painfully funny, and joyous results.

‘Whether it is issues of love, money, or ordering a latte at Starbucks, Kate and Michael are two people you’ve never quite met before, and you’ll love getting to know them. Stars and co-creators Shoshannah Stern and Josh Feldman are deaf. They also wrote and directed the pilot.’

Josh Feldman, who plays Michael, told Out, that the project is very personal, “I grew up deaf but didn’t come out [until] much later, because it was especially frightening to consider myself a double minority: deaf and gay. It felt overwhelming… My real hope is to introduce more deaf gay characters to film and television, because I really needed to see that when I was a young kid, growing up.”

He adds, “With Fridays, we hope to add a new perspective to the entertainment industry that we believe is lacking. Deaf characters in the media often aren’t fully realized characters, mainly because their storylines or their portrayals have everything to do with their being deaf. With Fridays, we want to introduce the world to two deaf people who are funny, complicated, and fully realized.”

Take a look at the pilot episode below, and if you like what you see, head over to Kickstarter. [Read more…]

Gay Short Film Showcase: Folsom Street – The LGBTQ fetish fair gets a musical number

August 31, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

folsom-street-shortWhile most of the films we including in the Gay Short Film Showcase were made to be seen at festivals and other similar events, this one is a little different as it’s basically an advert – but it’s certainly not your typical ad.

In Folsom Street, the famed San Francisco fetish street fair gets melded with a bit of Broadway for a leather, sex and latex musical number.

The event organizers hired gay indie filmmaker Aron Kantor (Best known for his viral Jack’d video ‘If Guys Acted in Real Life the Way they do on Gay Apps’ that surpassed 1,000,000 views in a week), to shoot a short film. The idea was to celebrate the rich history of diversity that pushes the limits of raw sexuality and makes SF the exciting cultural haven it has always been.

Kantor says, “As San Francisco’s unique culture faces the unstoppable forces of gentrification, I felt it necessary to create a time capsule to celebrate the diversity and sexual freedom that make this city so vital and special.  The city’s queer community is tremendously diverse, talented and beautiful, and the production of this film became a celebration, a joyful homage to this city’s sexually deviant history and gloriously seedy heyday.”

Folsom Street Fair 2015 is Sunday, September 27, 11am – 6pm on Folsom Street between 8th and 13th streets in San Francisco, CA. You can watch the short film below.

Gay Short Film Showcase: Along With People – A high school girl figures out how to come out

August 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alone-with-peopleWe’ve been slightly neglecting the short films we post on BGPS for the last couple of weeks, but now they’re back with Alone With People, which to make up for the lack of posts is a chunky 25 minutes long.

So what’s it about?

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Growing up gay in the South, a high school girl seeks the help of a therapist to come out to her family and friends in this hilarious and touching coming-of-gay story.’

It’s fun and honest, and handles the feelings of depression a gay teen can have extremely well. It never layers on the melodrama too much and has plenty of moments of genuine wit, as well as a good cast.

The multi-awardwinning short was written by and stars Girl Code’s Quinn Marcus, with Drew Van Steenbergen directing. You can take a look at it below.

Eastsiders: Season 2 Trailer – The hit gay-themed web series is coming back

August 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eastsiders-s2-slideEastsiders caused quite a stir when it debuted in 2013. It’s taken them a while to sort out a second season. Even after a crowdfuding campaign in April 2014 it’s taken them over a year to get it to us, but now the show is gearing up to debut a fresh set of episodes. And to prepare us, a trailer has arrived.

Eastsiders stars Van Hansis (As the World Turns) and Kit Williamson (Mad Men) as a gay couple trying to stay together in the aftermath of infidelity, with Season 2 hinting at an exploration of open relationships.

Creator Kit Williamson comments, “Jealousy is only interesting to a point. What happens when it’s removed from the equation? There are so many different ways human beings connect with each other, and there is no one way that is right for everybody. The show explores many different kinds of relationships, from ex-boyfriends getting back together, to friends starting a new relationship, to a lesbian couple with two kids finally getting married.”

As well as Williamson and Hansis, Season 2 brings back the likes of Constance Wu and Stephen Guarino, alongside Willam Belli, Manila Luzon, Drew Droege, Traci Lords, Jai Rodriguez, Sean Maher, and Matthew Wilkas.

Season 2 will debut on Video On Demand on September 15th, but you can check out the trailer below. [Read more…]

August 24, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

not-looking-s2-ep1It’s taken a while. Back in March, while Season 2 of HBO’s gay-themed Looking was on the air, a trailer for its comedy alter-ego web series, Not Looking – Season 2, debuted. However it’s only now that the first episode has arrived, via Funny Or Die. You can watch it below.

Once more, Drew Droege and co. are taking a comedic look at more ‘realistic’ issues facing gay men – who are not all pretty, young and able to land a new man in moments (although even in this series, some of them are pretty cute).

Alongside gay-entertainment stalwart Droege, the show stars Jason Looney, Justin Martindale, and Jeremy Shane, as well as some new faces, including in this episode Mean Girls’ Daniel Franseze. And with four more episodes coming soon, we’ve also been promised the likes of the return of Lance Bass.

In that movie Abelo’s wannabe filmmaker has ended up dancing around in a vagina costume rather than being the big-shot director she was hoping to be.

As Buzzfeed points out, ‘She [Abelo] was thrilled to see a lesbian love story getting so much attention, but nonetheless disappointed that the object of all this attention was another film about lesbian misery. “That’s why at the end of Vagina, I say, ‘Fuck you.’”’

Gay Short Film Showcase: Dirty Paws – The relationship between guy & a werewolf gets animated

August 4, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

dirty-pawsIf ever there was a show that lived up to accusations of gay-baiting, it’s Teen Wolf. However even that show has never gone as far as to get two guys in bed together when one of them is in full werewolf mode.

Animator Karina Farek has though, with Dirty Paws, her amusing thesis film for SVA bfa animation.

At first it’s not clear why one man is tieing up his boyfriend (and not in a kinky way), but once the full moon is out, it becomes clear that one of them is a lyncanthrope. However, the duo have learned how to deal with that once a month.

It all seems to be going well until the werewolf runs off and his boyfriend has to find him. Take a look at the animated short below, along with a blooper reel.
